Ліствиця Духовна У цій книжці, «Ліствиця Духовна» Святий Йоан Ліствичник написав про поступове крокування у подорожі до Неба. Ікона показує що лізти по драбині є важко; демони стараються стягнути монахів з драбини, а паща аду поглинає тих, хто впав; ангели плачуть над тими, хто впав, а люди на землі моляться за тих, хто на драбині. Христос є на вершині цієї драбини і чекає на нас, щоби ми ввійшли у Його святе Царство. Святий Йоан Ліствичник жив у 8 столітті після Різдва Христового.

The Ladder of Divine Ascent In his book, “The Ladder of Divine Ascent” St. John Climacus wrote about our stepwise journey to Heaven. The icon shows that the climb is difficult; the demons trying to pull the monks off, the mouth of Hades swallowing up those who have fallen off, the angels lamenting over those who have fallen, and the people on earth praying for those on the ladder. Christ is at the top of the ladder, waiting of us to enter His holy kingdom. John Climacus lived in the 8th century A.D.

Вимогою католицьких цвинтарів Архидієцезії Чікаґо була дата 15 березня, ми продовжили реченець до 1 квітня і повідомляємо, що після цієї дати робітники мають доручення все викинути до сміття.

WE PRAY: “OUR FATHER”

МОЛИМОСЯ: ,,ОТЧЕ НАШ”

A father brought his epileptic son to the apostles and asked them to cast out the demon that caused his son’s affliction. The apostles tried but could not do so. Christ saved the apostles from this embarrassing situation. In a strong and stern voice, He cast out the demon and restored the boy to health. “When they returned to the house, the apostles asked Him in private: ‘Why could we not cast out the demon?’” The apostles knew that they had been given the power to cure the sick and cast out demons when Christ sent them out to preach the Holy Gospel. (Mk. 3, 14-15). So, they could not understand their failure now. Christ answered: “This kind of demon can only be cast out through prayer and fasting.” In other words, Christ was saying that the apostles did not have a close enough relationship with God and that this relationship could only be built through prayer. Then, one of the disciples asked: “Lord, teach us to pray.” (Lk. 11, 1). Christ rejoiced for the time had come to give to the people the gift that would bless them until the end of the world. Now He was to teach the people the prayer which would be their unfailing strength, which would strengthen their soul. Christ began to recite the prayer that we know as the “Our Father” or the “Lord’s Prayer.” Nowhere else in Christ’s teaching do we find the depth of thought and major elements of His teaching as we do in the “Our Father”. The apostles were amazed that Jesus told them to turn to God with the word “Abba” or “Father.” This was a totally radical change from their tradition of prayer to God. In praying the “Our Father,” have we ever stopped and asked ourselves: “Am I worthy to recite the prayer “Our Father”? If we hate our brother, if we wish him evil, if we are secretly happy that he has fallen into misfortune, if we enjoy talking about his mistakes, failures and encourage others to shun him, how can we speak the words of the prayer “Our Father,” especially the words: “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”? We can say many things about God, about His justice, His strength, His holiness, His goodness, His mercy. But, when Christ taught us to pray: “Our Father, Who art in heaven…”, He wanted us to realize that the basis of God’s existence is love.

Батько, тримаючи свого сина-епілептика за руку, просив допомоги в апостолів. Він вважав хворобу свого сина результатом діяння сили злого духа. Однак апостоли не могли оздоровити його. Ця безсилість апостолів була предметом насмішок книжників, які уважно спостерігали за ними. Цю прикру для апостолів ситуацію врятував Христос. Він одним сильним, суворим словом прогнав демона й здоровив хлопця. ,,Коли ж увійшов в дім, учні питали Його на самоті: ,,Чому ми не могли його вигнати?” Немає сумніву, що апостоли пам’ятали цю хвилину, коли Христос, посилаючи їх проповідувати Святе Євангеліє, дав їм владу оздоровляти хворих і проганяти злих духів (Мр. 3, 14-15). Маючи таку силу вони не могли зрозуміти труднощів, які постали перед ними при оздоровленні хлопцяепілептика. Тому питали Христа: ,,Чому ми не могли його вигнати?” У відповідь Христос промовив: ,,Цей рід нічим не можна вигнати, лише молитвою і постом”. Іншими словами, Ісус хотів сказати: ,,Ви не живете близько з Богом. Справді, ви обдаровані силою, але щоби керувати нею вам потрібна молитва. Без молитви, без контакту з Богом, ваша сила пропаде”. Ніде в навчанні Ісуса ми не знаходимо стільки глибоких думок і головних елементів Його науки, як в молитві ,,Отче наш”. Апостоли були здивовані, коли почули, що Христос каже їм звертатися до Бога словом ,,Авва”, тобто ,,Отче”. Це навчання здійснило радикальний переворот у традиції молитов до Бога. Чи, проказуючи молитву ,,Отче наш”, ви застановлялися коли-небудь над питанням: ,,Чи мені можна, чи я гідний проказувати молитву ,,Отче наш?” Коли я ненавиджу мого брата, коли бажаю йому лиха, коли маю таємне вдоволення, що мій брат опинився в біді, коли розсіваю його помилки, блуди й заохочую інших його ображати, з яким обличчям я проказую молитву ,,Отче наш”, і слова цієї молитви: ,,Прости наші провини так, як ми прощаємо нашим винуватцям”. Багато речей можемо говорити про Бога, про Його справедливість, Його силу, Його святість. Але коли Христос вчив нас молитви ,,Отче наш, Ти, що єси на небесах…”, Він хотів нам сказати, що ядром Божого буття є лише любов.
