once again. This is one of our biggest loads 887 pounds ( approx. 1023 tabs per pound). We would have had 90,7401 tabs on board, the back of our pickup was full to the brim plus the back seat was completely full, for a total of $399.15. It brought tears to our eyes to see such a great accomplishment. You have done a SUPER job on making this a complete success. This will be our seventh wheelchair to the Nicola Valley Health care. This may have been our biggest load yet but our poor old shed wouldn't hold any more. The price of aluminum is down but the iron works gave us 10 cents a pound more (Thank you). We appreciate each and every one for all your help to make this project a success and you should be very proud. We have a tabs to get us started on our next adventure so we really hope you will keep up the great work. You can drop off your tabs at the Hospital Thrift Shop or call 378-6588 and we will be glad to pick them up. Any amount of tabs is not too big or too small everyone counts. Ten years ago, organizers of the Merritt Youth Ambassador Program, including Mike Hume who is still involved with the BC Ambassador Program, branched out with their local idea about an opportunity to help teens gain experience in the greater world, afford post-secondary education, and forge links of friendship & understanding with their counterparts in other communities. They took it to a provincial level, and have always favoured Merritt as their home base for the culminating weekend awards event. Speech and talent competitions & the coronation of the 2009 candidates will be held at the Merritt Civic Centre Aug 14 & 15. Candidates come from as far away as Revelstoke, Cowichan Lake, White Rock, Williams Lake and everywhere in between. Unfortunately, the Merritt Youth Ambassador Program announced it would not continue, and there will be no candidates from Merritt & the Nicola Valley competing at next weekend’s event.

Desmond and Dobbin Desmond, who was a real town dweller, drove his car into a ditch when out on the country roads. Luckily, a local farmer came was passing by with his big strong horse called Dobbin. He hitched Dobbin up to the car and shouted loudly, "Pull, Dolly, pull!" Dobbin didn’t move one inch. Then the farmer yelled, "Pull, Robbie, pull." Still Dobbin failed to respond. Once more the farmer commanded in a stentorian voice, "Pull, Ringo, pull." Again - nothing. Then the farmer nonchalantly and quietly muttered, "Pull, Dobbin, pull." Immediately the horse easily dragged the car out of the ditch. Desmond was very appreciative but also very curious. He asked the farmer why he called his horse by a different name three times. Community Futures is spearheading the efforts to save the festival from leaving town or folding altogether — which would have a devastating impact on the local economy, since Merritt’s entire tourism strategy & branding revolves around the 17 year old festival. Mayor Susan Roline brought to the table the fact that she’s been approached by local investors. And the general gist of the plan is that a festival society would be formed that would buy the property from Claude, continue the event, and operate the site in a way that it would generate income on a more sustained basis. But bookings & orchestrating an event of such a scale means that the deadline to get it together & make a decision is very short. Claude has agreed to hold off entertaining any other partnership proposals until the end of August.
