This week, a re-vamped Merritt Centennials Hockey Club Society board of directors announced a new coach, and it looks like the sale of the team is imminent. Joey Bouchard is just 28 years old, and trained as a teacher. He has been the head coach & general manager for the past couple years for the Whitecourt Wolverines, a Jr. B team in Alberta. And Brent Stark, owner of the Wolverines, has made an offer to buy the team, and paid a downpayment. He intends to keep the Cents in Merritt, based on community support. Once the application of the sale is made to the BC Hockey League and it approves a financial plan & budget, league governors will vote on the sale. With everything looking like a go, season tickets will go on sale soon. Time to show some of that community support!

The Heart & Stroke Big Bike is peddling back to Merritt and it's looking for new riders! Last year, riders raised more than $4600 in this community to fund heart and stroke research. It is 8’ across at the wheels and 30’ long. Heart disease and stroke remain the leading cause of death for Canadian men and women, and 80% of Canadians have at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease. With our aging population, funds for life-saving research are needed now more than ever.
