Almost a week after a home invasion on Sept. 15th, Merritt RCMP responded to the same residenc on Douglas St. for a report of an attempted break & Enter. Three males were observed fleeing in a suspect vehicle. The vehicle is described as a late 1990s model 2-door Dodge pick up, two-tone and dark in colour, with a diesel engine. A decal was observed in the rear window resembling flames, as well as a tool box in the back of the truck. This incident, along with the home invasion with firearms, are believed to be targeted and related to the local drug trade. The Kamloops Fire Centre received many calls earlier this week from residents in the Southern Interior, reporting dense smoke in the area. As depicted on current satellite imagery, this smoke is being north from a number of wildfires burning in the state of Oregon. There are no new wildfires in the area of a size to produce smoke of the density being reported. However, high temperatures & low relative humidities have led to aggressive fire behaviour on a wildfire discovered Wednesday at Scottie Creek, approx. 20km north of Cache Creek. Air tankers had laid several rounds of fire retardant to slow the spread of the fire early on, but it quickly grew to 400 hectares in size, and after yesterday, had grown to cover 500 hectares. Resources brought in to fight the fire now include over 80 personnel, 17 pieces of heavy equipment & 4 helicopters water-bucketing, as well as sprinkler systems to protect the residences in Hihium Lk, as a precautionary measure. Kamloops Fire Ctre reports that the fire danger rating is currently moderate to high, with areas of extreme fire danger. Although small campfires for cooking or warmth are permitted, all other open burning remains restricted at this time.
