Ardew last Friday could have been much worse. A 13-year old was charged with arson after a group of young people nearby witnessed him light a match & throw it intentionally into the dry grass. Damages are estimated at $3500, but it could have been more than $300,000 if the fire had burned the stack. Several other grass & bush fires have been set in the past few weeks, and are still under investigation. The public is asked to keep an eye out & report all fires or suspicious occurrences.

Smoke from Lillooet fire

Smoke from the wildfire near Tyaughton Lake, 65 km west of Lillooet, was thick yesterday over the valley. It is now estimated at 2000 hectares due to aggressive fire behaviour over the past 24 hours. Resources on site Thursday included 100 firefighters, 9 helicopters, 8 airtankers, and heavy equipment. Interior Health says that individuals with heart or lung conditions may be more sensitive to the effects of smoke from forest fires. They should watch for any change in symptoms that may be due to the smoke, take steps to reduce their exposure, and if necessary see their physician. Anyone with severe symptoms should present themselves to the nearest Emergency.
