Recently in Vancouver there was a summit featuring the Dalai Lama, Bishop Desmond Tutu’s daughter & New Ager Eckhart Tolle for a discussion on how to achieve world peace. But not surprisingly, their solutions were all man-centered, not God-centered. They must have believed that man can save himself & doesn’t need a Saviour. But one God created us, and in that sense God is the father of all people. We are all of the same blood & we are all created in the image of God. And because we are all His creation, we should all live in peace. But there is no peace on earth apart from the love of Christ. Any so-called world peace engineered by man will be superficial at best. Christianity offers the one true path to peace, the one way to the Father & that is through the Lord Jesus Christ & through faith in Him alone. Believers in Christ proclaim their dependence on Jesus, & claim that sin is the problem behind our lack of peace both with God & with each other. Conversely, we can’t expect anyone who is false with God to be true to others. If a relationship with the Lord is severed, even natural affections are too easily tossed by the wayside. And sometimes the sins of the fathers or mothers often carry on to the third or fourth generation. The apple does not fall very fall from the tree. God has called Christians to peace. God wants us to live in peace as much as we are able, even though there may be hatred & chaos all around us. Real peace only comes when we are in His Will. The Israelites were a chosen people holy to the Lord their God to be His treasured possessions. Christians are a chosen people, a royal nation belonging to God. They have come out of the darkness into the light of knowing who God is & what He requires of us. Aren’t you glad for God’s grace? You can repent of your sins. You can be forgiven. You can truly believe & live in peace. Are you at peace with God? Are you following Him? Do you love Him? I hope & pray you do.
