Luke Pierce new Cents coach

Luke was made interim Merritt Centennials head coach & general manager on Tuesday, after the coaching/gm team of Dylan & Tyler Forsythe was notified by the Cents board of directors that all negotiations with the potential buyers were off, and that it might be in their best interest to resign. The brothers were the point men with the Okanagan group that had expressed an interest in purchasing the hockey team. There was some controversy over their methods, and evidence that the players themselves had lost respect for the Forsythe brothers — no wins on the road, in next-to-last-place in the standings. What has emerged through this, though, is that the new Centennials board of directors worked as an effective decision-making body & dealt with a worsening situation in a clean & direct manner. Now, Luke has a chance to show what he can do. He’s a home-grown boy, enthusiastic, young but with some good experience & education ‘from away’ — and he’s embedded.

As the owners and operators of the little train that we operate around town, we would like to apologize to all the people who support our entry into the Christmas parade every year. Due to some unforseen circumstances, we will not be entering this year. We were in the process of decorating the train for the parade, which takes us 6-8 weeks to complete, when someone deemed they needed the Christmas lights more. So to whoever took the lights off our train: we hope you get lots of use from them. You seem to have forgotten that the spirit of Christmas is that it’s better to give than recieve. So we thank you for your contribution to our float as we really didn't want to get cold walking the route for a 4th year anyway. Candice Pollard
