BUSINESSES RAISE HEALTHY AMOUNT WELL done to the Tarporley business community who raised over £600 for the cottage hospital at a recent healthy evening held at the Swan pub. It’s good to see the town’s shops and businesses joining forces in the Tarporley Business Alliance, whose numbers are growing month by month. It’s always good to buy locally because this helps to support the local community and it’s got to be better for the environment too! In this month’s edition we’ve got the latest from all the villages, including features on the high school, a fund raising hog roast, two biker brothers who are burning up the track, news from Tarporley Vics, Tattenhall Cricket and much more. There’s also the usual features, with a gardening column, recipe, health and beauty advice and a good food advice, plus a big what’s on guide for the villages. We hope you enjoy the magazine Kind regards The Talkabout Team

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER Tel. 01829 733496 Black Spots? Where’s yours? TWO protracted periods of icy conditions during the winter found the village ill prepared. It is fairly clear that little further help is available from county and so the Parish Council is looking to prepare its own gritting policy/plan. This may involve judicious use of our contractors and / or a home-watch style neighbourhood network of willing citizens. An audit of incidents, such as the twenty three on Birch Heath would be a useful start. If you have anecdotal evidence of; broken bones, broken cars, black spots, expertise on gritting rates and environmental impact, or a willingness to be involved please contact James Blackford on

NEWS IN BRIEF l BIRDWATCHERS have travelled from across the country to see a pair of peregrine falcons nesting on a clifftop at Beeston Castle. Police are also monitoring the nest to ensure that thieves don’t steal the precious eggs. The Beeston Peregrine Watch includes two cameras focused on the nest to in the hope that the falcons can raise their chicks without human interference. One year, thieves broke into the castle and abseiled down the cliff to steal the eggs.

FOOTBALL TALK... TARPORLEY VICS FC
VICS MISS OUT ON PROMOTION WITH only one game remaining Tarporley Vics First Team will miss out on promotion and will finish in fourth position at best in the Cheshire Building Society Cheshire League Division Two. The crucial turning points were back to back games against Whitchurch Alport that were played recently. These games only produced a single point and our competitors seized upon the chance to overtake us to claim the top three places. The first match, at home, resulted in a 2-2 draw and the reverse fixture three days later ended with a 2-1 win to Whitchurch. While everyone involved with Tarporley Vics is disappointed with the finish to the season, and the fact that we have come so close to promotion, we are now starting to reflect on our successes to date and making plans for next season’s campaign. We must not forget that we have only lost seven out of the 31 games played so far in the league and to improve next year we need to turn some of these games and the eight drawn games into wins. The Reserves will now become the focus of attention for May, with three league games remaining, one semi final still to play and the Final of the Crewe & District League Cup to be competed for. The important dates for your diaries start with 2nd May at the Cumberland Sports Arena in Crewe where they will play Curshaws FC. of Nantwich in the Final of the Crewe & District League Cup. On 9th May they will face Manchester Metropolitan University FC at Bunbury for a place in the final of the AJ Cooke Trophy.2pm kick off and all support will be appreciated. Wind farm plans go on display
PLANS to install wind turbines on land at Oxheys Farm near Eaton go on show to the public this month. The exhibition organised by renewable energy company, Cornwall Light & Power, will be held at the
Jessie Hughes Village Hall on Royal Lane in Eaton on Friday 1st May (12 noon – 8pm) and Saturday 2nd May (10am – 2pm). Cornwall Light & Power acquired the site from npower renewables in October 2005 and since then has carried out a number of studies to inform the development of a scoping report, due to be submitted to Cheshire West & Chester Council later this month, setting out the technical and environmental investigations which will be undertaken by Cornwall Light & Power as part of the planning process. Visitors to the two-day exhibition will have a chance to find out more about plans for the site, which could
accommodate up to five 125m wind turbines, each of which would generate up to 3 Megawatts (MW) of renewable energy each year. Together, the turbines could produce enough clean, emissions-free electricity to power around 8,300 households each year – over seven times the number in Tarporley. They would also make a substantial contribution to Cheshire’s target to have 82.5MW of onshore wind energy generating capacity by 2010. Further information – including a copy of the scoping report – will be made available on the company’s website at www. clpwindprojects.co.uk.

Louise, from the International School of Beauty Therapy, explains the benefits of her courses to budding beauty therapists Brains and beauty
Louise sold her the two highly successful Beauty International salons in Tarporley and Tarvin to devote all of her energies into the long established International School of Beauty Therapy in Nantwich. “After a great 15 years of enjoying treating and looking after such a large clientele from the North West I decided the time was right to concentrate on my school.” Trained herself at the original Nantwich School of Beauty in 1985, Louise’s flagship operation is the school based on the Cidesco accreditation scheme. The Zurich based examinations and approval board is considered to be the best in the world, added to which the school, also embraces ITEC and CIBTAC qualifications, English accreditations that are also internationally recognised.
First class student training
“My philosophy is to offer a first class service, training my students to the highest possible standards” says Louise, “and we cover everything from professional beauty therapy skills to client care and personal conduct.” The international courses are more intensive and attendance can be full or part time with enrolments throughout the year. “ the courses appeal to all ages, helping younger students to start their career path and mature students to change direction of career, maybe after a natural career break, or redundancy”, adds Louise. Since opening in 1993, it has been the aim of The International School of Beauty Therapy to provide the ultimate education to produce exceptional therapists, as witnessed by the school’s consistently excellent results and achievements.
The most sought after therapists in the world
The International School of Beauty Therapy is on the Register of Education and Training Providers which enables overseas students to obtain a student visa whilst attending any of the qualifying courses. Students have come from as far a field as Norway, Cyprus and South Africa, thus the title International. And, says Louise “traditional training methods are employed by highly qualified tutors with over 23 years commercial experience, who only teach small classes, with a maximum of 14 per group. Students qualifying with the prestigious Cidesco accreditation are amongst the most sought after in the profession worldwide.”
Your future
By the end of the courses, the students have a full range of skills necessary for a competitive commercial workplace. As Louise comments: “We feel it is important not only to make sure the students achieve good grades in their exams, but that they are also very commercially aware. That’s why the course also incorporates diplomas from companies such as St Tropez tanning, Dermalogica and Fake Bake.” Past students have progressed on to building successful careers with Steiner Cruise Liners, Virgin Airlines as in flight therapists on long haul flights and as salon owners.
New advanced short courses
Due to demand the school now offers an extensive post graduate list of courses for therapists and hairdressers wishing to expand their current treatment list. Including Thai massage, Hollywood Lash Extensions, Advanced Massage Techniques, Hopi Ear Candle and Stone Massage.

Hog roast fund raiser was a big success
A CHARITY fund raiser in aid of the Tarporley Done Pre-School and National Childbirth Trust last month was a huge success. The ceilidh and hog roast event raised over £1,000 to be split between the two good causes, which is good news for the children and parents in and around the village who access these services. The pre-school will use the money to purchase some fabulous play equipment for their new outdoor garden area which will be under construction shortly.
GO LOCAL AT ROSE FARM SHOP
ROSE Farm Shop in Utkinton, near Tarporley, produce their own traditional beef, and in the last 12 months have introduced home reared free range pigs. With the introduction of the pigs, the shop now benefits from the tasty free range pork, which is used to produce products ranging from joints and chops to homemade pies and sausages, to complement not only the pork but the beef as well. The shop is a large part of Rose Farm, however there is much more to see. There is also a café offering everything from a cup of coffee to traditional homemade meals. And after visiting the café, why not have a stroll around the greenhouse with a large range of plants and gifts. With the shop open seven days a week and the café open six days, with lots of FREE parking, there really is no excuse not to go an shop local. You can even keep the children occupied as there is food available in the shop to feed the pigs!!! 38 To advertise call 01244 350398

Biker brothers battle it out on the track BROTHERS James and Mike Edwards are battling it out for bragging rights in a nationwide motorbike championship. The duo are competing up and down the country in the Thundersport event on their Yamaha 600 bikes. Although it is early in the season, the brothers from Duddon, have already been extremely competitive with a number of top 10 finishes. James, 27, who works for PW Transport, and Mike, 22, who works as a gardener for Timpsons, started racing in 2000, with James as a sidecar passenger, and Mike on a pre 95 125 race bike. In 2006 James moved up to solos to compete against
Mike on their 125 race bikes. This is the second season for the brothers competing on their Yamaha 600s in the televised Thundersport championship. The brothers have completed two rounds of the championship at Mallory Park and Cadwell Park. After Round One at Mallory Park, Mike took a 4th, 7th and 8th to put him 5th in the championship and James two 9th places, in 6th position before slipping off his bike forcing him out of one of his points races, to give him 12th in the championship. In Round Two at Cadwell, James came away with a 7th and 12th out of 40
leaving him in 13th position in the championship. Mike was battling in 4th position before slipping off his bike, causing a shoulder injury leaving him out of the weekend. Mike is now 10th in the championship. The brothers are supported by Timpson, Macdonalds Golf and Spa, BSK Racing and all their family. The brothers are looking for sponsorship to help them complete the 2009 season. Anyone interested in supporting James and Mike can contact them via email.
