It’s early November but already the town is getting into the Christmas spirit! A big week of festive activities has been arranged from 30th November to 7th December. This includes a big switch on of the Christmas lights and a special late night shopping event. The current economic downturn means that it’s more important than ever to shop locally. The aim of our magazine is to encourage people to use the area’s shops and tradesmen. When you respond to an advert in Neston Local, you know that you will be supporting a business on your own doorstep. We hope you enjoy the latest edition of Neston Local, and don’t forget to mention the magazine when responding to adverts.

Off-road bikes crushed

Car thief jailed for three years

POLICE have tackled the problem of offroad motorcycles in the area. Cheshire Constabulary crushed 10 bikes and prosecuted the riders following complaints from the public. The council has also put a barrier in Tank Field to stop riders from using it as a cut-through between Neston and Parkgate.

THE theft of a car from outside a house in Willaston last month sparked a huge police operation. The car was fitted with a tracker device which allowed police to follow it using the force helicopter and eventually led to the thief being brought before the courts and jailed for three years.

FARM fresh milk direct to your door is now available in Neston and surrounding areas! Gary Jones, a milkman of 17 years, has started a new milk round and is currently looking for new customers. The milk is provided by Tomlinson’s, a family run dairy established in 1989 and based in Minera, Wrexham. Sales have been picking up on a daily basis and good customer feedback has been coming in. Martyn Davies of Allans Meadow said: “The milk is brilliant quality. It keeps well, tastes fresh and is going down well with all members of the family. I have already had to increase my order due to my eldest drinking so much of it.” So for quality and price it is well worth it. The milk is a much higher quality, much fresher than anything in the shops and delivered cheaper than any other delivery services around.

Royal approval for film maker Dave

A NESTON camera crew got up close and personal with the Queen recently. Dave Bladen, who runs Elite Video, had the opportunity to film Her Majesty while doing a documentary on the Duke of Lancaster Regiment. Dave, who specialises in corporate and wedding videography, worked on the project with fellow film makers Dan Fox, Chris Owen, Jody Rimell and Joe Fox (pictured). “With many film crews working for the British Army I felt very honoured to be selected as the only film company commissioned to produce such a prestigious DVD for 2,500 soldiers to have as a keepsake, said Dave. “Only one film cameraman was allowed to get up close to Her Majesty. “We had to stay about 10ft away while being ushered on as the Queen walked towards us. “I did feel very special to have such a chance in my profession to one day filming a bride and groom then next the Queen.”

Dogs need dentists too Smile Fido…..or Felix…..Now then what did you see? Or was it more about the whiff?! So many of our older patients have such pongy breath. Well, it’s hardly surprising if they have never brushed their teeth in the last decade! Oh yes, dogs and cats need their teeth brushing too. At least they do if you want them to keep their teeth all nice and pearly white. But they’re only animals….I can hear you say…..well think again please. The build up of scale, plaque and tartar on teeth is a slow but sure process. And as it increases the solid, mineralised substance which forms gradually pushes back the gum margin, and starts to expose the start of the tooth root. Then bacteria join in – that’s when it begins to get a bit pongy. From here on the bacteria present a health risk to the rest of the body. The process continues we call it periodontal disease – the root is further exposed, the ligaments which keep the tooth firmly in the gum become weakened and are eventually lost, the tooth becomes loose, and will eventually fall out. And much of this is caused by an unhealthy infection. Not a nice process. And one which can be halted. As we all know from visiting our own dentist. But now think about your pets….pets need dentists too. Regular dental treatment is just as normal for dogs and cats as it is for humans. Ask the vet, next time you are there, to advise you on dental care for your pet. Smile please!! ……and this is what they should be like!

Despite the torrential rain, there was a big turnout for the event where visitors were shown the new Maths and Music Technology rooms, performances covering music and drama and had the chance to view student work. Fresh Local Vegetables

I do wonder where the next month is going to lead. Firstly the chickens are doing fine. They have re-discovered their spirit and the ability to jump and run along with fine plumage. No longer can I shoo them into the coop when it suits me, now I have to wait for the last girl to come home at twilight before locking up. At the beginning of the month I was feeling like a TV chef. People kept dropping by with generous offers of this and that, apples, hay, pigs and good advice just like they do on stage-managed telly. I wondered if I was riding on a tide of good will and how far it would carry me. Now the month is nearly over I see it differently this isn’t a force of goodwill aimed directly at me its simpler and therefore more powerful. It’s just like-minded people helping each other and supporting causes they believe in. Starting the weekly vegetable delivery scheme has brought me out of the nursery and into contact with so many local suppliers and farmers that now I can work with them and even consider expanding.
