CONSTANT VIGILANCE Therein lies tip number one: You do not have to burn fuel unnecessarily, but run your vehicle often enough to prevent early rusting (particularly of the muffler barrel). Curtis Alleyne offers a second method to prolong the life of your muffler system vigilance. Take every opportunity to check for blemishes. Whether you are having an under-wash at the gas station or an alignment job at your favourite alignment shop, take the opportunity to look for blemishes. These ‘blemishes’ may be a mere scratch incurred on a stony road, at a culvert, or at intersections that facilitate drainage. Always check. Then act quickly!

REPAIR INSTANTLY Have it repaired immediately, or soon the rust will create a bigger repair job. Your response could save you or cost you hundreds, depending on how soon you act. For instance, a patch on a muffler pipe could cost between $140 and $200 depending on where you go. However, to replace the pipe, which could also include the barrel (which, by then, would also be affected), could cost between $1,200 and $1,300. Once you detect a defect in any part of your muffler system, it is best to go straight to a muffler shop for a proper analysis. Make sure they do not start on the job right away. Then, just as you would if something were wrong with your body, get a second opinion. The “up and down” or “run-around” you might be thinking about now will be worth it. Once you have these two bits of knowledge at hand, you would be best placed to make a more informed decision. SHOP AROUND This is not just about saving a single dollar or two but about ensuring you are not given the wrong advice about changing what does not need to be changed. Sometimes you could lose good parts like that and have it replaced by something of inferior substance, while your original part is sold later to someone else.Prices and quality of workmanship can differ depending on where you go. Says Alleyne: “What you may find is that the muffler shops here in the west tend to be a lot more expensive than the ones in Arima.”

Leslie’s rise to fame came when she was invited to participate into the contest, for which she strongly resisted, at least in the beginning, persistence paid off for the persons who invited her, because finally she agreed. Agreeing is one thing, knowing what to do is another, and as a newbie to this sort of thing it required fast learning. Thankfully for her and I am sure to the other participants they were thoroughly briefed by the organizers (Public Service Association), after all it is a Miss PSA contest.

Well it doesn’t stop there Miss PSA is required to continue to represent the PSA for one year and participate in various activities of the organization. Back to the main story, Leslie Ann having decided to participate faced some pressing issues on what to wear, make up and hairstyle. This was challenging given the theme of the contest was ‘ Journey Through Roots, The Triumph and The Glory’. She had two pieces of wear to design, the cultural wear, and the evening gown and both had to compliment each other. Her choice of Rodney Alexander as the designer proved to be an excellent choice as she won the title of Best Evening Wear. Make was organized by Sacha Cosmetics for all participants. What about her hair, well her choice was Natasha from Curves Beauty Shop one of advertisers, this too proved to be an excellent choice as she won Best hairstyle. Leslie was high in praise for the work that Natasha did in creating a hairstyle in accordance with the theme of the contest.

I must commend the PSA for contributing to team building and collaboration within various ministries, because in order to participate, the participants are required to visit the heads of state and to showcase their knowledge of their ministry to the heads of The Ministry of Legal Affairs continues to state. To my mind this is a positive move be in the spotlight, they are already leading the way in government’s e-government initiatives, winning the prime Minister Innovation Award on two occasions and now this beauty contest. The Ministry is certainly working hard and have achieved some level of synergistic effort amongst its workers.

Is a wireless network right for you? Firstly what is a wireless network?

A wireless network allows wireless enabled devices (e.g. laptop and desktop computers, smartphones, PDA’s, printers, etc.) to be connected together to share information without the use of wires. One major and common use of wireless networks is to share internet access. If you have high speed internet access and have more than one computer or a laptop and you don’t want to be confined to using cables to have internet access then a wireless network is for you!

How does it work?

It is similar to cordless phones where your phone will work within a certain distance away from the “base”. A wireless network uses a device called a wireless router (also called an “Access point” or “AP”)as the “base” to which your device will connect . The maximum distance for wireless networks can range from 100-300 feet. Basically it will be able to give coverage to your entire home or small business place.

How secure is it?

After you have paid for your internet access you don’t want anyone stealing it unless you are creating a “hotspot”(a hotspot is were the internet access is shared for the public to openly use e.g. in the airport). Usually wireless networks are setup in two ways:

 Secured – A password is set on the wireless router

and you will need to know that password in order to connect to it.

 Unsecured – No password is set on the wireless router

and any device within range of the router will be able to connect to it.
