Resources

 To activate students’ prior knowledge

 To make the problem more relevant to the students

 Students are prompted to raise some examples in the region  Which are the countries that have encountered the problem?  How have the effects affected you? 20 mins

Development  Students are split into groups of 4  Students are to read the article individually  Students to do think-pair-share to elicit facts from the article  Students are to write down their findings on post-it notes  Students are to paste their post-it notes on the whiteboard  Teacher to facilitate in the categorising of all the post-it notes under facts or opinions  Using all the facts, students are to identify the main issue and the parties involved  Each group is to take on the perspective of the consumer/supplier or countries that are indirectly affected

 Students are to analyse the issue and evaluate whether Indonesia’s proposed solution is a good one  Who are the ones affected by this proposal?(white)  What is wrong with the proposal? (black)  What are the disadvantages of implementing the proposal?(black)  What are the advantages of implementing the proposal?(yellow)  How would the proposal solve the problem?(yellow)  How has the article changed your views?(blue)

 The groups will present their point of view based on their roles  How do you feel about the proposal? (red)  Who do you feel is at a disadvantage?(red) 20 mins

Consolidation  After hearing everyone’s perspective, students are to negotiate for a win-win solution  Students to resolve their conflicts in an amicable manner Conclusion  Students are to use 3-2-1 to indicate what they have learnt for the day.
