Chapman Valley Northampton “B”

versus Kalbarri

ROUND 1 @ Northampton

Kalbarri 206 – Zane Robinson 4 for 32, Geoff Ferguson 2 for 42, Mike Friday 1 for 30, Shane Higgins 1 for 34 and Jack Pluschke 1 for 41

Chapman Valley Northampton 230 – Mike Friday 31, Adam Foster 29, Matt Poynton 28, Blake Medway 25, Flynn Drage 25, Gerard Williamson 23. Winning the toss (Higgo has always been a tosser and nearly went on the pro Tossing Tour!) The Royal Rams decided to field but found it hard to contain an early onslaught by the Karbarri openers. We got our first wicket via a sharp outfield catch by Robbo off Pluschke at 46 in the 7th over. Kalbarri still went at 6 an over for the first 19 overs until a brilliant running, diving, sliding, tumbling throw to affect a run out by Frieds saw the Rams start to chip away at the Kalbarri batsmen. Zane Robbo was the star late with 4 wickets off his 10 overs. Kalbarri were restricted to only 88 runs off their last 25 overs which gave the Rams a reasonable total to chase. Highlights in the field were Fossy’s catch at slip, one of three for the day for him, Friday’s run-out which surprised everybody and Simon McKay’s hamstring snap! Apparently it’s his worst injury since doing a nail at netball a few years ago! Inspired by Higgo’s half time address the run chase began with new openers Friday (31) and Medway (25) putting on 59 in 8 overs to get the boys off to a flier. Blake, playing his first ever game played some lovely shots and smashed the first 6 of the season with a belt over the mid wicket boundary. Solid contributions from all batsmen saw the team approach the total confidently until we lost two wickets in the 170’s. A steadying combination from Fossy and Fergy who added an unbeaten 40 run partnership saw the victory target reached in the 39th over. Captain Higgo then retired the boys before Fossy’s life threatening back injury overcame him. Well done to all involved. Special mention to Jimmy Billings who came along and supported the boys all day and to Rat who acted as team photographer! Our Thanks to the A Grade fellas for coming across and supporting the B’s; especially Jamie Criddle for his donations to the fines.
