CHAPMAN VALLEY CRICKET CLUB V TOWNS ROUND 4 @ The Recreation Ground 14th November 2009 Towns 166 – Mike Friday 3 for 36, Geoff Ferguson 2 for 30 Chapman Valley 113 – Shayne Higgins 34, Geoff Ferguson 23, Richard Attrill 20 Winning the toss Higgo asked Towns to set a total and it wasn’t until over 21 that the Rams snared their first wicket via a run out to see Towns at 1 for 69. After toiling away without luck early the boys showed great spirit to never throw in the towel. We lost Rob “Oops my Groin” Kingdon in his second over due to an overuse of said area!!!!! Gilly (1 for 14) bowled tightly and Fergy (2 for 30) was always there abouts. Frieds (3 for 36) showed a great deal more interest in catching when it’s off his own bowling and Higgo (1 for 27) was also tidy. Towns put on a number of small partnerships but good fielding led to 3 runouts! It was like watching a family of Sorgiovannis batting together! Yep … No … Wait … Sorry! Again we put down a few catches that should have been held and we don’t have the fastest team in the field (Yep! … an understatement!) .. but the fellas held it all together where many teams would not have! Great stuff! Towns were eventually wrapped up for 166 after losing 4 for 7 in the last 3 overs. Higgo asked the boys to value their wickets and to bat out the overs! Unfortunately that didn’t quite happen. Friday went early to allow Toby (17) and Rat (20) to put on 38 to see us to 44 after 13 overs. Three overs later we were 6 for 46 and things looked about as bright as a one legged bloke in a bum kicking competition! Higgo (34 no.) and Fergy (23) showed that sensible batting would have made a big difference but eventually we were all out for 113. This was a disappointing result but the fellas showed a lot of spirit that will see us in good stead in future games. HUGE thanks to Andrea at Chis and Fips for a feed of chips after the game. Next week sees us playing out at Nabawa Oval against Sportsmans Club. The A’s have a bye so we can look forward to some great support and sledging from the sidelines. Let’s ensure we have a feed at the Valley Tavern after the game! SPECIAL MENTION TO THE A’S ON THEIR FIRST WIN IN THE COMPETITION! THEY CERTAINLY KNOW HOW TO CELEBRATE!

Congratulations to Michael Friday on winning the Boatshed Restaurant Award for this week. Next week’s game sees the B grade playing out at the Valley for the first time this year. Good luck to both teams and …. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! Thanks to those players who have already paid fees.
