CHAPMAN VALLEY CRICKET CLUB V

NORTHAMPTON ROUND 9 @ NORTHAMPTON 13th December 2008 Chapman Valley 7 for 269 (R Attrill 53no, S Higgins 47, B McCashney 41, D Kupsch 30, M Friday 28, D Riman 24no) Northampton 168 (S Higgins 3 for 28, M Houston 2 for 11) Tex got the day off to a great start by winning the toss and electing to bat on the warmest cricketing day of the year thus far! Brock (41) and Shaun (5) fell only 255 runs short of last week’s opening stand to have us 1 for 12. Junior Sorge (18) and Brock put on a neat 51 runs before Junior was dismissed the first ball after drinks. Frieds (28) again got a start before throwing it away, Higgo (47) batted very well as did Kupschy (30) to see us move to 6 for 191 in over 37. Then it happened! After 9 games Geoff Perera finally fulfilled Tex’s wish and we had another duck. Tex tried to hide his glee at finally being free of Daddles the duck but he couldn’t hide a tiny smirk. Geoff accepted Daddles with honour and actually seems quite taken by him! That was the last success with the ball for the Rams as Rat (53no) and Davo Riman (24no) added a lusty 76 in 8 overs with Rat bringing up his 50 with a huge 6 over mid on off the last ball of the innings! It was a great team effort with the bat. Even Geoff looked nice in his whites! Chasing such a large total was always going to be difficult for the Rams but it was made more so by Dave Riman (1 for 37) taking a wicket in the 7th over. This saw the Rams then put on a quick fire 58 runs in 8 overs to breathe some life into the game! The introduction of Higgo (3 for 28) saw him take a wicket in his second over. This signalled a strong turn of favour for the Valley and the Rams were soon 6 for 100 after 28 overs. A run out to Brock, a slick stumping down leg side to Rat, Frieds’ athleticism and two catches to Ninge were the fielding highlights. Smarty (1 for 7), playing his first game of the year, woke up after his afternoon sleep and bowled like he’d never been on a header. Courtney McLeod (1 for 18; Yep; We need a nick name!) garnered some swing and grabbed his first wicket for the Valley and Tex (2 for 11) bowled well at the death to clean up the tail to have the Rams all out for 168. It appears that Geoff Perera may be on a charge of intimidating the opposition with a little yellow duck and the video referee is investigating a charge against Brock of severe flinching in the field! Well done to all for a great team effort and win number 9 on the trot!
