ROUND 4 @ Dongara
By Jarovegimite Formeandad Dongara – All out 89 – Dave Riman 4-27 off 9 overs. Hayden Dawson 2-39 off 6. Brett Marendaz 2-11 off 7. Jamie Criddle 1-12 off 4.2.
Chapman Valley Northampton – 9-247 – Brock McCashney 41, Shaun Emerson 52, Anthony Jones 59, Jamie Criddle 20, Dave Sorgiovanni 38, Mark Houston 11 (off about 6 balls) We travelled to Dongara for a much anticipated game, knowing that we were going to have a great opportunity to bat on a hard deck and finally have the ball come onto the bat. After seeing TOWNS prepare last week out at Nabawa, the captain insisted that we turn up to the game nearly 2 hours early to ensure the very best preparation. Unlike TOWNS, there were no push-ups and run-throughs.... It was the bakery and TAB that were required to get the boys fired up. It was a good toss to lose as the captain Ninga has no idea what to do once the coin lands the right way. We were fielding. Dongara are renowned for getting runs quickly and when they were 34 after 6 overs, you would have been forgiven for thinking that we were playing 20/20. It took Dave Rimo to reduce speed and deceive one of the sloggers to break the ice. Haydon “The Cougar” Dawson picked up his first wicket as Geoff “The Panther” Perera casually snared a catch at mid on. At 2- 35 we had made a great start even though they had been scoring a 6 an over. The next half an hour was rather extraordinary.... Dongara’s 2 best batsmen were at the crease and Barry Dawson had just been hit for 4 from his outswinger. The clever young whippet showed that he is already way smarter than most fast bowlers by unleashing a brilliant inswinger that found a gate bigger than one in Mike Friday’s cow paddock. BOWLED HIM!!!!!! Next over Rimo grabbed double points when he managed to get his hands under a leading edge that had everyone thinking we were watching in slow motion. Rimo was on fire. In his next over an edge flew low, and Freddy Foster dived full length forward to scoop up a miracle catch. With the ball finally lodging between his fingers and his head, our attention soon turned to our ginger friend, who had ripped a finger nail off one of his delicate hands. This catch will take some beating!!! To top off an impressive bowling display, Rimo bowled the dangerous Troy Bedford to drive a nail in Dongara. At 6-66 we had a well earnt drink. The last 4 wickets were wrapped up with some tight bowling and great fielding. All out for 89. It was now time to shake off the monkey. The young April 6ers took to the hard wicket like Tex to chick flicks. Brock and Ninga, knocked the ball around for 20 overs and took the game away from Dongara. AJ had to patiently wait until the score was 99 before getting his chance to free his arms and have a dig. Some much needed batting practice was available, however Bigboy Cragan was thirsty and is now on a keg!!! The all-rounder out of luck- Jamie Criddle was elevated, as he was on a keg this week. Laughing in the face of adversity, he knocked around a sprightly 20 while AJ went about his business of hitting an elegant half century. A
few more quick runs were hit which included a cameo from Tex teeing off first ball and showing the top order that you don’t need to train how you play... Once again Rimo was left stranded at the non-strikers end. 9-247. Well done to the ROYAL RAMS for working hard and staying patient. As this combined side moulds together, we are going to keep on improving and prove that we make the grade. A week off for the “A’s” and then we play the Wanderers the week after. In our bid to find a win, we all looked for something to give us that lift. Some of us tried extra fielding practice, or some extra batting- while a select few turned to watching cheerleader movies. WELCOME TO A-GRADE BOYS!!!
