Sekhukhune Mayor takes oath After a 100 days in office, Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor, Mogobo David Magabe, was officially inaugurated during the Mandela Day festivities that took place at Jane Furse last week Saturday. A ceremony officiated by a magistrate, commissioner SF Boshielo, saw Cllr Magaba taking the oath of office (photograph left). His predecessor, Mr Namane Dickson Masemola , who is now the Limpopo MEC for Education, took part in the ritual of adorning him with the mayoral chain (photograph bottom left). Mr Masemola also represented Limpopo Premier, Cassel Mathale at the festivities in Jane Furse. The programme of the day started early with a large number of dignitories, including mayors of local municipalities in the district, gathered at the Makhuduthamaga Municipality offices in the town. The procession then visited several areas in the vicinity, taking part in the cleaning of streets in Jane Furse and joined other members at Ga-Marishane where a house for a destitute family is constructed. They also went to the Jane Furse Memorial Hospital where wards were visited. In his speech after his inauguration, the Mr Magaba told the crowd that his administration is committed to service delivery and development. He highlighted government projects that is taking place and announced that the district municipality will launch a free basic service campaign to ensure that people register to have access to free basic services. In dealing with water challenges a new Water Service Department was established on 1 July, while the in supplying water to Moutse west of groblersdal, a licence was obtained to extract a limited amount of water from Loskop Dam. Another structure that was launched on 15 July is the is the Sekhukhune District Planning Forum to deal with planning challenges in the three spheres of government. Other steps that were taken are the adoption of a turn around strategy for supply chain management, a policy in respect of contract management, the employment of additional project managers, while the district has followed the example of big cities in dealing with the separation of powers between the legislature to enable the council to play its overseeing role. He also announced the establishment of a call centre to respond to community queries in line with Batho

Pele priciples, while a committee was also established to oversee municipal public accounts that takes the form of SCOPA at municipal level. The district mayor said commitments have been made to ensure that compliance with legislation is a must and not an option. He reiterrrated the leadership in the district’s commitment to ensure that mineral resources in the district benefit the people in the area he said that “we will together with all our municipalities establish the Sekhukhune Mining Economic Forum to coordinate all the mining activities in the district”. He allso announced the formation of the Sekhukhune Development Agency (SDA) and introduced the newly appointed board to the crowd (bottom photograph). Although an entity of Sekhukhune District Municipality the SDA will be independently run by the board. The main task of the agancy will be to be the driving force behind economic development in the district with regrds to mining and tourism (especially after the completion of the De Hoop Dam). Excecutive Mayor Magaba also announced that the district municipality will from now on be known as Sekhukhune District Municipality and no longer Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality. This decision was taken after extensive consultation.

Police stations in the Burgersfort, Ohrigstad, Praktiseer area, took the 67 minutes campaign on nelson mandela’s birthday last Saturday seriously and the cluster launched various projects to interact with the community under the leadership of the cluster, Senior Superintendent MJ Mohale of Tubatse Police Station. Supt Mohale, who personally participated in the day’s activities, told and audience at the tribal authority at Ga-Mashamothane that he is very concerned about the prevalence of domestic violence in the area. He said it is his resposibility to to provide a safe environment through reactive and preventative policing, especially with regard to crimes against women and children, senior citizens and people who are differentially abled. he said thiese people are very vulnerable and it is everybody’s collective responsibility to love and to protect them. He said a large number of women in the area are found to be in abusive relationships. He urged people to stop abusing women and not to expose children to dangerous places such as shebeens or substances such as alcohol, cigarettes and other drugs. He said the Police are working closely with the tribal authority and he called on people to give their support in fighting crime to their tibal authorities. Representatives of several structures, as well as the Community Policing Forums were also present. After his speech at the tribal authority, donation in thre form of blankets and groceries were given to the needy. Earlier in the day personnel of the Tubatse and Burgersfort Police Stations visited Dilokong Hospital where the Police whished the ill a speedy recovery and also prayed for sick patients. The rest of the day’s programme encompassed door-to-door crime awareness campaigns by the various Police stations. Burgersfort Police Station and Ohrigstad Police Station also donated groceries and fruit (Ohrigstad) to the needy in their respective communities.

AFGRI sells noncore retail stores to Burgersfort store MGK included in sale AFGRI, the JSE listed agricultural business, Wednesday announced that MGK Bedryfsmaatskappy (Eiendoms) Beperk (“MGK”) acquired 11 of its retail outlets. These retail branches currently supply agricultural products and inputs to farmers. Chris Venter, CEO of AFGRI said, “The rationale for the disposal of these specific retail outlets is in line with AFGRI’s strategy to exit retail business, which is not part of its identified grain value chain or core business. We want to align the remaining retail outlets with the core business of AFGRI.” Venter was complimentary towards MGK saying that, “We are assured that the MGK management philosophy will be in the best interest of farmers in the geographic areas in which these retail outlets are situated.” Ben Lombard, Managing Director of MGK said that MGK’s management is optimistic and excited about the transaction and sees it as an opportunity for growth in and around irrigation areas. The outlets acquired through the transaction will strengthen MGK’s strategic position and market share, especially for its retail division, Obaro. The transaction affects outlets in Brits, Thabazimbi, Vaalwater, Marble Hall, Groblersdal, Burgersfort, Hoedspruit, Nelspruit, Barberton, Malelane and Komatipoort which are being sold as a going concern to MGK. Any mechanisation division or outlet is specifically excluded from the transaction, including but not limited to the mechanisation outlets at Marble Hall and Malelane. The purchase consideration includes R47.5 million in respect of the businesses and certain immovable property, plus the value of the stock in trade which amounts to approximately R62.5 million. R23.75 million is payable directly to AFGRI on the effective date, and a further R23.75 million will be paid into a trust account of the attorneys appointed by AFGRI to transfer the immovable properties purchased by MGK in terms of the agreement, which will be released on a pro rata basis to AFGRI against registration of the immovable property in the name of MGK. On the final payment date 40% of the value of the stock in trade will be payable to AFGRI and thereafter 15% of the value of the stock in trade will be paid to AFGRI on a monthly basis. The financial effects of the transaction have been calculated and have no significant effect (i.e. are less than 3%), on AFGRI’s earnings per share, headline earnings per share, net asset value per share and net tangible asset value per share for the year/period ended 30 June 2009. AFGRI and MGK have embarked on a process of communicating with branch managers of the affected outlets, and at this stage none of the parties expect that employees will be retrenched. AFGRI does however have a regional office, which is excluded from this transaction, at which a consultative process with employees is underway as there may be a requirement to retrench one or two employees. The transaction is subject to certain conditions precedent, which both MGK and AFGRI are confident will be met. Chris Venter says, “Currently AFGRI is undergoing an entire review of

operations to revert to a core focus excluding manufacture or production of primary agricultural inputs. A strategic decision has been taken not to participate in retail activities in non-grain growing geographic areas.” “Despite the sale of these 11 retail outlets, the supply of AFGRI’s remaining products and services to the farmers will be unaffected by the transaction,” concludes Venter.

Robbers nabbed

After investigations the SAPS recovered various vehicles that were stolen.

On 21 July 2009 the Police in Tubatse arrested four suspects aged between 27 and 29 years for armed robbery, possession of firearm without licence and possession of suspected stolen properties. It is alleged that on 21 July 2009 at about 07:30 in the morning four armed men robbed the driver and the crew of a bakery truck of their cellphones, two way radio and R700-00. The victims were delivering bread in GaMotodi Village outside Praktiseer. The robbers locked the driver and his assistant in the back of the truck and drove away with the truck. The vehicle was then left abandoned just few kilometers away from the scene. When the police arrived the suspects had already fled. The driver gave the police the description of the suspects and the description of the vehicle used by the suspects. The Police made follow ups in tracing the vehicle and the suspects. A few hours later the Police managed to identify the vehicle in Apiesdoring just outside Burgersfort. One of the suspects was shot in the leg when he took aim and fired at the SAPS member when the

vehicle they were travelling in was stopped and they were being arrested. The suspects were found with the vehicle that was used in committing the robbery. It was found that the vehicle was stolen in Boksburg. The suspects were also found in possession of a 9mm pistol with four live rounds of ammunition. Many items such as 5 cellphones, a digital phone, two way radio, video camera, scanner and cash to the amount of R1060-00 were also recovered. The suspect who was shot was taken to the Dilokong hospital where he passed away a few hours later. On 22 July 2009 the Police conducted further investigations and managed to recover another two suspected stolen motor vehicles including a bakkie that was stolen in Tembisa and a Venture which was also stolen in Boksburg. The vehicles were found in GaMotodi village. The three suspects are expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate court soon on charges of armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen properties and possession of fire arm without licence. The Station Commissioner: Senior Superintendent M J Mohale applauded the good work done by the members.

Moordsaak in Ohrigstad Die lyk van ‘n 39 jarige vrou van Vlakfontein is op Maandag 20 Julie in die pad tussen Ohrigstad en Lydenburg gevind. Daar is aanvanklik vermoed dat die vrou deur ‘n voertuig gestamp is omdat daar remmerke op die pad was, maar dit het later aan die lig gekom dat sy vermoedelik langs die treinspoor wat daar naby verbyloop vermoor is. Die vrou is ook verkrag. Volgens die polisie het die moordenaars die toneel verlaat en later terug gekeer en die vrou na die pad gesleep en daar gelos. Die polisie van Ohrigstad het deur die loop van Maandag en Dinsdag leidrade opgevolg en Maandag is een verdagte reeds gearresteer. ‘n Tweede verdagte is Dinsdagoggend in hegtenis geneem. Beide die mans werk op plase in die omgewing. Die mans sou Woensdag in Lydenburg in die hof verskyn het. Die verwagting was dat die saak uitgestel wou word vir ‘n borgaansoek.

Steelpoort Akademie van 2009 Dis ‘n nuwe jaar. ‘n Nuwe begin met splinternuwe kinders. ‘n Opgewondenheid het geheers onder almal. Die ou Steelpoorters sowel as die nuwe graad 1 kleintjies. Daar was ‘n gees van opgewondenheid wat geheers het in die skool, veral onder ons nuwelinge. Glo dit of nie, daar was nie eens een traan wat gestort was deur die nuwe maatjies nie. Die mammas het eerder ‘n knop in die keel gehad en ‘n traantjie gepik. Een blou massa het op die paviljoen bymekaar gekom en saam-saam het ons die nuwe jaar begin met ‘n toepaslike opening met ‘n wonderlik motiverende boodskap. Mnr. Alberts het almal verwelkom - kinders sowel as die nuwe personeel. Welkom juffrouens Anet, Madelein, Makki en Melissa en meneer Thinus. Daarna het al die kinders - baie entoesiasties verdaag na hulle verskeie klasse. Hierdie jaar spog ons met ongeveer 915 leerlinge op die eerste dag. Die hoërskool begin met graad 10 en die spesifieke leerareas tree in werking. Daar is baie nuwe dinge wat die kinders opgewonde maak. Dis ‘n uitdaging vir elke Steelpoortertjie en personeellid om hierdie jaar aan te durf. In dieselfde asem wil ons ook net ons ouers ‘n goeie jaar toewens - dit wat nog nie verby gevlieg het nie! Moet nou nie harder werk as die kinders nie!

By die graad 0-3 groep het ons vir ‘Tannie Sunshine en Kallie ‘ wat elke tweede Donderdag by ons kom kuier.Die Graad 4-7 groep het spesiale sprekers wat hul elke tweede Vrydag toespreek.Die ander Donderdae en Vrydae loof en prys ons die Here deur sang. Dankie vir juffrou Sally wat ons help by die junior CSV en Juffrou Elsabe en Sanet by die seniors. Ons het ‘n paar hoogtepunte gehad die afgelope twee termyne ‘Acts ‘het weer ‘n draai by ons kom maak en glo my die kinders is altyd opgewonde as hulle kerk

toe kan gaan om nuwe lewenslesse te kan leer deur dans en toneelspel. Ook het ons ‘n geseënde Hemelvaartdag gehad waar Pastoor Antonie weereens vir ons ‘n diep hartroerende boodskap gebring het.Ons Junior,Senior en Gospelkoor het hierdie jaar vir die eerste keer opgetree en het die dag vervolmaak met hul sangspel. Nog ‘n hoogtepunt was die Internasionale Gebedsdag wat gehou was op ons skool se paviljoene.Verskeie gemeentes het bymekaar gekom en sowat 800 mense het opgedaag om te BID. Hier onder volg gedig ‘n geskryf deur Joe Niemand om ‘n bietjie jou siel te voed. Waarvoor is jy bereid om voor te leef en te sterf? Jesusliefde Alida Labuschangne Tannie Sunshine en Kallie wat ons meer en meer van Jesus vertel.

On Thursday 30 April 2009,Steelpoort Academy had to say goodbye to Marie Jankowitz, who had been teaching at our school for one year and four months. All the grade 7 learners were very sad for losing their favourite English teacher. She was responsible for the media centre and was the guardian of the 2009 leaders at the school. She also helped with several extra-curricular activities. On 25 April last year ,Marie was involved in a terrible motorcar accident. She miraculously recovered from her injuries and resumed her duties at the school. Marie accepted a teaching position at Laerskool Lydenburg where she had previously teaching for eleven years. We want to thank Marie for her contribution to our school and all the hard work.Steelpoort Academy will miss you!

Sy verduidelik die werk goed. Sy is vroulik. Sy gee interresante werk. Mnr Carstens Hy’s nooit kwaai nie. Hy gee nie BAIE huiswerk nie.

Kreatiewe koppies KOOR Die Junior koor oefen gereeld en het reeds twee liedjies aangeleer. Met Juffrou Retha en Juffrou Sally sing die kleintjies die veld aan die brand en hulle eerste optrede sal wees op Hemelvaartdag en in die toekoms nog by die senior sorgsentrum. Die senior koor is ook al baie sterk besig en oefen pligsgetrou. Die kinders is baie entoesiasties en oefen selfs in pouses. Een van die dae tree hulle ook op met ‘n spinternuwe uitrusting.Ja self ons rugby manne sing ‘n hond uit ‘n bos uit.Knap gedaan ouens.

BYBELVASVRAE Ons leerlinge wat deelneem aan die Bybelvasvrae leer tans kliphard saam met juffrou Sally en Retha uit die boek Ester.Die kinders vind dit interresant en geniet dit baie.

REDENAARS Ons kulturele aktiwiteite is ook volstoom aan die gang en ons redenaars is al klaar aan die stryd. Rynhardt Gouws en Henk Goosen is gekies as ons twee top redenaars. Hulle het in Middelburg aan die ATKV uitdunrondte deelgeneem en het dit terdeë geniet om te ‘REDENEER’

Sport Joernaal - so baie in ‘n kwartaal ATLETIEK Hierdie jaar het ons baie vroeg afgeskop met die interhuis en al die ander atletiek byeenkomste.Die Uile het geseëvier hierdie jaar met 466 punte,die Arende kort op hulle hakke en laaste maar nie die minste die Valke met 335.Ons kampioen van kampioene was Mapulana Pholwana en Galeb Maphanga. Die Victor en Victrix Ludorums het gegaan aan Amorey Dreyer en Christiaan Kruger.BY die seniors was dit Anastacia Dube en Jason Wentzel. Hierdie jaar het ons Hoërskool in volle swang hulle eie huissport gehad.En was dit pret met baie dinamiese dirigente.Die leerling het dit terdeë geniet.Die beste item van die dag sowel as die beste baan item was verower deur Billy Bronkhorst. Die beste veld item het gegaan aan Neo Malapane.Die Victor en Victrix Ludorms is weg geraap deur Phillia Mukengeshayi en Neo Malapane. Congratulations to both of you. Well done to all our athletes competing this year .

Oupa en Ouma Alberts Nooit gedink die dag sou so vinning kom nie.Dit wys jou net hoe snel die tyd verby gaan.Nou die dag was Rina- Lize nog in die skool. Vandag is sy ‘n mamma,nie van een nie maar sommer van twee.’n Pragtige seuntjie met oupa se kuiltjie en wipneus en ‘n dogtertjie so fyn soos ‘n porselein pop. Hoe opgewonde was juffrou Thea toe sy hoor dat sy ouma gaan word en Meneer Alberts was sprakeloos. Die maande het verby gevlieg en voordat hulle hul oë uit kon uitvee was dit tyd om Botswana toe te gaan om die wonderwerk te kon aanskou, maar nie voordat ouma en oupa ‘n ooievaarstee gehad het nie. Juffrou Thea en Meneer Alberts moes albei ‘n fopspeen suig en’n borslappie dra voordat hulle al die pragtige geskenkies mag ontvang het.

TOER NA DRAKENSIG Die seisoen het weer afgeskop deur ‘n rugbytoer na Drakensig. Nog ‘n wonderlike geleentheid wat ons leerlinge gehad het en dis hoe hulle dit gesien het: Ons het 10:00 vertrek en omtrent 12:00 gearriveer. Ons eerste wedstryd was teen Pietersburg-Noord. Die seuns het hard gespeel. Die seuns het groot karakter gewys en deur later die middag ‘n ‘kaptein’s oefening’ uit te roep en het selfs die probleme wat opgeduik het in die wedstryd op hul eie aan te spreek. Die volgende dag het hul vriend en vyand verras deur ‘n groot skool naamlik Witrivier met 28-5 kaf te draf. Wel gedaan! Met die tweede wedstryd was ons bietjie rustiger. Sondag was ‘n rusdag en ons was almal Swadini toe. Die Maandag het ons teen PhalaborwaNoord gespeel en die wedstryd oortuigend met 38-0 gewen. Die Dinsdag was op ‘n hoë noot afgesluit deur Pietersburg-Noord se B-span met 30-10 te verslaan.

Balle, balle, netbal balle. Ja, die dogters is weer in volle swang besig om nog ‘n seisoen aan te pak. En dis hoe hulle die seisoen begin het: Die o/14’s is ‘n gedugte span soos menige teenstanders kan getuig. Hulle is baie geesdriftig en geniet elke oomblik op die netbalbaan.

On 29 April the u/8 team played their first match against Entheos. On 16 May they won all three matches played in Nelspruit. Ons o/9’s het talle oorwinnings gehad teen Mariepskop, Numbi, Laeveld en Nelspruit. Die meisies het ‘n positiewe gesindheid en is altyd lus om te wen. Die o/11A span het tot dusver fantasties gevaar. Hulle het al hulle wedstryde behalwe een teen Nelspruit gewen. Die Bspan is nog besig om harder te oefen. Die o/11 afrigters wil net vir hulle baie dankie sê vir al die harde klippe wat hulle saam gekou het. Dankie juffrou Riekie dat jy ons o/10’s so mooi gehelp het. Die span het ook meeste van hul wedstryde gewen en geniet dit om as ‘n span saam te werk. Knap gedaan meisies. Dis mos hoe dit gedoen moet word. Hierdie jaar het die o/12 span al baie verbeter. Ek bedoel met afrigters soos Juffrou Thea en Juffrou Chrisna kan ons nie anders nie. Ons het teen Nelspruit en Phalaborwa gelykop gespeel en gewen teen Laeveld, Bergland en Burgersfort. Ons het sover nog net met twee wedstryde verloor. Ons wil net graag dankie sê vir ons twee PUIK afrigters en sewe fenominale spelers. Arlene (al die netbal nuus is geskryf deur leerlinge/kapteine van die verskeie spanne) Onthou: Om te verloor maak van jou ‘n wenner!

Op Saterdag 9 Mei het die Mini Netbal en Rugbydag by Laerskool Lydenburg plaasgevind. Dit was ‘n koue en reënerige dag, maar Steelpoort Akademie se leerlinge het hulle nie laat afskrik nie. Hulle het goed gevaar ten spyte van ‘strawwe’ kompetisie en almal het dit terdeë geniet.

ANDER SPORT Drie leerlinge van Steelpoort Akademie het gedurende die langnaweek van 24-27 April aan die Karate Kampioenskappe in Tongaat Kwazulu Natal gaan deelneem. Daar was meer as 200 deelnemers en Werner Spangenberg (gr 10) het ‘n silwer en brons medalje ontvang en Manus Aldrich (gr 10) het ‘n brons medalje gekry. Rynhardt Spangenberg (gr 5) het ook besonder goed presteer en ‘n goue medalje gekry. Hulle het gedurende die Julie vakansie aan die wêreldkampioenskappe in Durban deelgeneem. Reynhardt gaan in Oktober aan die Suid-Afrikaanse kampioenskappe deelneem en hy hoop om sy springbok kleure te verwerf. Sterkte en ons is trots op julle! - S. Nel

DIE RUGBYMANNE Ons rugbymanne het hierdie seisoen terdeë geniet. Hiermee wil ons graag die volgende seuns geluk wens met hul puik prestasie. Reghart Cross, André Erasmus, Eduan Jacobs en Dylan Jacobs was al vier gekies om in die Mpumalanga Rugbyspan van 44 seuns te speel. Daar was aanvanklik 1500 seuns om uit te kies vanaf Secunda, Nelspruit, Witbank en al die ander skole in die streek. Die vier seuns is huidiglik in die Puma XV tal.

Loeloeraai

Lulu Kolom - nuus van die hoërskool Hoërskool rugby Hoewel ons spanne hierdie seisoene gemengde welslae behaal het,is ons egter baie tevrede met ons 0/14 en ope span.Daar moet in ag geneem word dat ons in meeste gevalle teen baie groter skole gespeel het.Dankie ouens vir julle getrouheid en al die oefeninge in die middae.

Netbal op Komatipoort Die dag het al vroegoggend begin en almal was baie opgewonde.Dit was ‘n lang pad en die meeste van ons het maar nog ‘n bietjie slaap ingesit op die bus.Ons het gearriveer op Komatipoort en het sommer dadelik met die dag se aktiwiteite begin.Twee wedstryde was gespeel en net een was ‘n verlore stryd.Die ander spanne het ook gemengde welslae ervaar.Almal van ons het dit geniet en die dag was ‘n reuse sukses. Nuwe onderwysers Ons is trots op ons nuwe span raakvatters by die hoërskool. Die dinamiese span bestaan uit: Anet Carstens, Tinus du Toit, Makhi Koopedi en Madeleine Pieterse.

Atletiek Dit was ‘n heerlike seisoen met uitstekende welslae. Ons het baie talentvolle atlete en is trots op elkeen. Congratulations to Neo, a grade 8 learner who broke many records at the athletics meeting which was held in Middelburg.

Die hoërskool leerlinge buite die skool tydens die opening van die nuwe klaskamers.

Opening van nuwe geboue Vier nuwe klaskamers is weereens gebou met die hulp van Samancor. Die nuwe klaskamers is pragtig en die wetenskap laboratorium is ‘n lus vir

die nuuskierige oog. Die geboue is gedurende April formeel geopen met ‘n spesiale funksie en ‘n toer vir ons weldoeners. Baie, baie dankie!

Netbal & Rugby Sukses is ook gevind op die netbalbaan en rugbyveld. Eenmaal was almal dou voordag uit die vere en gereed vir die dag en toe is die gehuurde bus so ‘n bietjie laat. Desnieteenstaande was dit ‘n suksesvolle seisoen sover!

Leerlingraad Die leerlingraad is saamgestel uit graad 10 leerders wat demokraties verkies is. Die leerlingraad word ondersteun deur Juf. Riekie en hulle werk voorwaar hard om die hoërskool in toom te hou. (Dit lyk net so maklik omdat hulle so goed is). Die leerlingraad spog ook met die mooiste hempies wat spesiaal vir hulle gemaak is!

Graad 8 Oriëntering Die nuwelinge moes weliswaar ‘n rukkie wag, maar dit was deur en deur die moeite werd. Juffrou Colleen het ‘n onvergeetlike oriënteringsmiddag gereël. Die graad agts spog ook nou met pragtige hempies in elke kleur van die reënboog. Die middag is aangebied deur ‘n professionele spanbou spesialis wat met behulp van verskeie speletjies en hope pret die graad 8 groep saamgesnoer het tot ‘n hegte eenheid. Die leerlingraad het ook die geleentheid gekry om hulle staal te wys deur in beheer te wees van hulle eie groepie graad 8’s. Juffrou Colleen was die hele tyd naby om toe te sien dat alles seepglad verloop en hulle kuikens hulself terdeë geniet. Die verrigtinge is afgesluit met ‘n liplekker braai. Fantasties!

Kultuur Ons kultuurvereniging is nog in sy babaskoene, maar hou dop: babas groei vinniger as wat ‘n mens mag dink...

Akademie Akademie is prioriteit nommer 1. Toetse word elke week geskryf. Trek jou sokkies op en leer hard!

Ter afsluiting Waarom so ver ry en so ver van die huis af bly as daar soveel geleenthede vir jou hier is? Ons hoërskool is vanuit die gemeenskap vir die gemeenskap! Ons dinamiese, uiters professionele onderwysers, pragtige klaskamers, talentvolle leerders en uitkomsgerigte leerplan is definitief ‘n welkome alternatief vir baie ver ry of tuisonderrig. Moenie wag nie, kom na die skool waar elkeen iemand is.

Komatipoort hier kom ons! Die hokkie by Komatipoort was baie stresvol maar lekker.Dit was ons heel eerste wedstryd vir die jaar en ons het dalk nie gewen nie,maar het dit geniet.Hulle sê mos dit gaan nie oor wen of verloor nie, solank jy dit geniet. - Adri Potgieter Gr 10 A This day was a very intriguing day. We went to Komatipoort for two simple reasons-RUGBY and a WIN.We were accompanied by the under 14 rugby, hockey and netball teams. We were told to be at school at 3:30.Well everybody pitched except the bus. Finally after an hour we left. It was a long, but exciting trip. We just made it and on arrival the under 14’s had to play. They did what they came there to do-played rugby. They dominated the first and the second half with no doubt.Neo Malapane was extraodinary.Then our turn came and we also sealed the deal with Travis scoring a beautiful trie.Our hockey girls went through some rough patches during the march with Charlotte Mkhonto being hit varousiously with a hockey stick on her mouth.The netball did not disappoint either. Stike action is one of the most commonly used methods to try and secure specific wage demands in South Africa. Currently there is a strike at Xstrata’s Lion Ferrochrome plant and talk of a possible strike of municipal employees are in the news. We this week posed the question whether it is right for people with work to resort to strike action when there are many who wish to have an income?

Lydenburg Laeveld liga wenners Die finaal van die Laeveld Golf liga is op 18 Julie 2009 tussen Nelspruit en Lydenburg op Sabie River Bungalows uitgespook. Dit was ‘n naelbyt wedstryd wat gelykop gespeel is met 4 punte elk. Die kapteins het hulle keuses gemaak en die uitspeel pare het weer afgeslaan op nommer een. Die lig het begin min raak en die spelers het geweet hulle sou sake vroeg al moes afhandel. Hier het Thys Cronje van Lydenburg (Skoolhoof van Hoërskool Lydenburg) ‘n puik nader hou geslaan om die Nelspruit manne bietjie onder druk te plaas. Herman Adendorf het opgevolg met ‘n briljante sand hou wat nader as 2 voet van die gat tot stilstand gekom het. Dit het die teenstanders laat bloed sweet. Nie een van die Nelspruit manne kon hulle puts, onder groot druk, sink nie.(Dus het altwee bogeys gespeel). Herman Adendorf het sy par vir 4 gesink! Gevolglik het Thys nie eers

nodig gehad om sy put te speel nie. Lydenburg A het vir die eerste keer na ‘n lang droogte weer die beker huis toe gebring! Christiaan Willemse, die span se kaptein sê: “Ons wil net weereens al die borge, ondersteuners en veral al die spelers bedank vir hulle toewyding deur die jaar”. Laeveld Inskrywings vir die Laeveld Beker is ongeveer 28 spanne, dit wil sê 280 spelers het in die stof gebyt. Die volgende wedstryd is die uitspeel tussen die Laeveld en Hoëveld spanne. Hoëveld het omtrent dieselfde inskrywings vir die Hoeveld beker gehad. Die spanne speel uit vir die Mpumalanga beker op Saterdag 1 Augustus op Nelspruit wanneer Lydenburg A (Laeveld) en Morgenson (Hoeveld) mekaar die stryd aansê. “Ons wil alle sterkte toe wens vir Lydenburg A,” sê Willemse.

Nag gholf groot pret Tubatse Chroom Gholf klub het verlede week Vrydag ‘n nag gholf toernooi gehou. Die baan was volgepak vir dié nege putjies in die dag en nege in die nag. Daar word met gloeiende balle gespeel en die afwesigheid van sigbare bakens in die nag sorg vir groot vermaak op die baan. 44 Deelnemers het die aand kom deelneem en Koos Laas was uiteindelik die wenner met Frikkie van den Berg tweede.

Die duiwe is om 07:00 losgelaat en die eerste duif was om 13:5:36 terug by die huis. Piet Terblanche en Chris Langley se eerste span het die eerste en tweede plekke losgevlieg terwyl hul tweede span die derde plek geneem het. Die jaaroud duiwe is om 08:00 losgelaat en Casper le Grange se duif was om 15:12:24 by sy hok om die eerste plek te behaal. Die tweede plek is deur Piet en Chris se eerste span geneem en die derde deur Piet en Chris se tweede span. Op 11 Julie is die 530km vanaf Winburg gevlieg. Dit was ook die WPK se Jaaroud Kampioenskap, en daarom is die mannetjies en wyfies gesamentlik om 07:00 losgelaat. Casper le Grange se mannetjie ZA 2008 56060 het om 14:05:44 met ‘n spoed van 1241.1572 meter per minuut ingeklok. Daarmee wen Casper die Mannetjie Kampioenskap. Tweede was Rika le Grange en derde Casper le Grange. Die Wyfie Kampioenskap is ook deur Casper gewen met sy blou band hennetjie ZA 2008 55545. Sy was om 14:05:42 by die hok en het ‘n spoed van 1241.2544 meter per minute behaal. Daarmee wen sy ook die Jaaroud Kampioenskap in die klub. Die tweede plek in die Wyfie kampioenskap gaan aan Casper le Grange en die derde plek aan Rika le Grange. Die tweede been van die WPK veiling wedvlugte is ook op 11 Julie bepaal en die eerste plek gaan aan Casper le Grange se blou band hen ZA 2008 56001. Die tweede plek gaan ook aan Casper en die derde aan Johan du Plessis. Die eerste ope wedvlug vanaf Glen oor ‘n afstand van 610km is deur Rika le Grange gewen met Casper le Grange tweede en Dave Wessels derde. Die tweede ope wedvlug is deur Piet en Chris 2 gewen terwyl Casper le Grange die tweede en derde plekke behaal het. Die ope Rooi duif kampioenskap word deur Rika le Grange met haar mealie hen ZA 2006 40060 gewen. Die volgende derby wedvlugte strek oor 700km vanaf Edenburg af.

The Burgersfort United Football Club (BUFC) played a social match against the Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) Football team on Wednesday evening. “Tubatse is a very strong team and we played a challenging game of soccer with them,” said Mr Faizal Abdullah of the BUFC. The score was 2-1 in favour of BUFC during the second half of the match. GTM however fought back and in the dying minutes of the game scored another goal to ensure a draw. BUFC plays every Wednesday and Friday evening social soccer games and invites all interested players to join them. Teams who would like to play against them can also contact Abdullah.
