GREAT COMMISSION
CONNECTION COMMIT TO CONNECT
“Holding the Rope” I will never forget our Oklahoma Children’s Camp in the early ‘80’s. Our Enid church took the kids to a rustic camp in a deep canyon. While hiking, they came across two repellers, whose equipment had failed. They fell to their death on the trail. Attempts to revive them were useless. This tragic end sobered our carefree children and reminded them of eternity. A missionary said while going overseas, “I will go down into the pit, if you (the folks back home) will hold the rope.” They did, and he did not fall or fail. As Jonathan “strengthened David’s grip on God,” we also can help those who are climbing the mountain and going down into the depths for the lost. We dare not cramp up or get rope burn. The world is counting on us and so are the God-called missionaries. As our own David George said recently about Paraguay, “We cannot go back unless we have a prayer team backing us up.” As God gave me the concept of the Great Commission Connection some months ago, I longed to mobilize hundreds of us to “hold the rope” and extend prayer, concern, friendship, and generosity. Please commit to taking a “mission’s package” of families from the International Mission Board, North
American Mission Board, state Baptist missions, or a Seminary faculty family. All three families in the package are vital in fulfilling the command to “Go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:1820). The personalized brochures with pictures and instructions are available today for you as you bring your commitment card to a table. These servants of God are just waiting for your email, letter, and contact. They will help you to determine “the rules of engagement.” Forrest Head and Jim Powers will also help. You will receive a Change the World bank for loose change. Also, ask God to help you to give at least $300 this year in change into our Cooperative Program fund, which will be in addition to our regular budget giving and special offerings. Sure, times are tough here, but far worse outside the U.S. Do what you can. God will bless it, and remember old Caleb: “Give me this whole country…the Lord will be with me” (Joshua 14:12). COMMIT TO CONNECT!
An Opportunity to Dig Deeper . . . “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful (women) who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2 (NAS) A discipling class for women who wish to be grounded in their theological beliefs so that they may faithfully teach it to others is being formed. This seminary level class on Biblical and Systematic Theology will be taught by our pastors’ wife, Janet Wicker. Enrollment is limited and times of meeting will be discussed by those who register interest. Please e-mail Norma Woods at
[email protected] with your e-mail address and phone number to be included in a preview session on Sunday, November 1st at 12:30 p.m. in room DC108. At this session, we will discuss the future class schedule.

Tackle Football Season
This is our third year of Sports Outreach and our second season of Tackle Football. Here you see one of our Junior teams praying before the game against the Marco Island Eagles from their Parks and Recreation. We have had many opportunities to pray with them along with the teams from Community School! We have had many of these kids come to church along with new families as we are “Beacons” to all we come in contact with. Last year we had over 50 souls come to the Lord (including entire families) and we are looking forward to God working through us this year! We have two more home games on Saturday, Oct. 17th from 8am – 4pm and will be wrapping up the season on Thursday, Oct. 29th, under the lights from 6-9pm. We would love to have you come and cheer on the “Beacons of FBCN”.
The Christian Business Owners and Professionals (CBOP) will have their regular monthly meeting this Tuesday, October 13 at 6:00 p.m. in DC108. We will be discussing our upcoming Trade Show to be held here at FBCN early next year. All members are encouraged to attend to hear all the details. For more information, call Jody Statile at 591-1895 or go to www.cbopnaples.com.

She is the mother of three grown sons and three precious grandchildren. Her interests in church include working with preschoolers, leading a mentoring Bible study for young moms, and welcoming people into her home. Anne practices a lifestyle of “Ministry in the Hallways” at her church. Her philosophy as a pastor’s wife is to love God first, love Bryant and her family, and to love the people God puts in her path. It makes for a life of joy!
