“The Great Commission Connection” God is developing a new excitement in our church as we go global in ongoing fulfillment of Jesus’ Great Commission. When He ascended back into Heaven, He commanded us to “go into all the world and make disciples.” Missions involves praying, connecting, and giving as well as going. While some are called to be career missionaries, all Christians are called to be involved. As you see the international faces behind the platform in our Worship Center and the 7,000 lights on the ceiling representing unreached people groups, your heart burns to do something…you can. God gave me a special vision some months ago to develop a creative, fresh, massive missions ministry. Only He can make it happen! Next week, we will ask at least 500 family units to commit to be involved in the Great Commission Connection. The challenge for missions to be personal will be met by each family accepting a package of three families. You will connect by prayer, email, and any other means with these missionaries from the Southern Baptist Convention: an International Mission Board family, a North American Mission Board family, and either a Florida Baptist Convention family or a faculty member of one of our six seminaries. Many of these professors have served

on the foreign field and equip future servants of the Lord. Of the NAMB folks, we are adopting 200 military chaplains, many of whom serve in combat. As you can see, this involves 1,500 full-time world-changers. We “put our seal on this fruit of theirs” and minister to them “the fullness of the blessing of Christ” (Romans 15:28, 29). The protocol of your connection will be determined by you and your missionaries. Some are serving in very dangerous areas and will require more careful dialogue. All are desperately in need of prayer; of course, they will also pray for you. This gives our church a sense of ownership and relationship with kingdom work and workers. We are also asking each family to take a Change the World piggybank. You will put your loose change in it over a period of a year and ask God to help you to give at least $300. This will be deposited in an ongoing Cooperative Program account, in addition to our regular percentage giving from our budget. Though we cannot monetarily give directly to the missionaries, as the tide rises, all boats rise with it. I am very grateful for the great cooperation of our denominational entities and their excitement over this concept. Please pray about committing and connecting for the cause of Christ. Lord, “confirm the work of our hands” (Psalm 90:17).

Guest Reception There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night and the 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning service. Come and meet Dr. Wicker.

Speaking to our Men’s and Women’s Ministry this Wednesday evening.

On March 15, 2004, on the crowded streets of Mosul, terrorists attacked Carrie, David, and their team. Three of their team members died that day. David survived long enough to see his wife to safety; however he died the following day due to injuries during the assault. Carrie continues to challenge people all over the world with her story and encourages them to look beyond themselves to see God’s purposes for their lives.

Come visit us at the missions kiosk in the Commons this weekend!

It is our desire that Jesus be the focus in our worship services. Therefore, in consideration of others desiring to worship with limited distraction, we ask each person to do the following: - Please turn your cell phone off or set to vibrate. - Please remain in the worship center (except in the case of emergency) once you have entered to worship. - Should your child become unsettled or noisy during the worship service, please take your little one to the Fellowship Hallway or preschool ministry area in the Education Building where you can comfortably watch the service on a television monitor. Thank you for helping us maintain a worshipful atmosphere for everyone!

“You have shown me the way of life and You will fill me with the joy of Your presence” Psalm 16:11

Featuring: Anne Wright

Anne Wright is the wife of Bryant Wright, Senior Pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Marietta, Georgia, in north Atlanta. She and Bryant will celebrate 35 years of marriage this year. Raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Anne attended Columbia College and graduated with a BA in Sociology from Augusta State University. She is the mother of three grown sons and three precious grandchildren. Her interests in church include working with preschoolers, leading a mentoring Bible study for young moms, and welcoming people into her home. Anne practices a lifestyle of “Ministry in the Hallways” at her church. Her philosophy as a pastor’s wife is to love God first, love Bryant and her family, and to love the people God puts in her path. It makes for a life of joy! Her message will encourage each woman to “count it all joy” no matter what trials she faces.

Love and Respect is a new Bible study we have just started in Troy Baker’s Sunday morning Bible and Life Group for young couples. In this study, you will discover the Single Greatest Secret to a Successful Marriage. Psychological studies affirm it, and the Bible has been saying it for ages. Cracking the communication code between husband and wife involves understanding one thing: that unconditional respect is as powerful for him as unconditional love is for her. It’s the secret to marriage that every couple seeks, and yet few couples ever find. Troy Baker’s Bible and Life Group meets on Sunday mornings at 11am in the Discipleship Building room DC109. Anyone is welcome to come and join in on this outstanding study.

Building Kingdom Families Seminars The second of four “Building Kingdom Families” seminars will be held on Saturday, October 17th from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in DC121. These seminars, hosted by First Baptist Academy, are open to all FBCN members and are required of all new families to the Academy. They are designed to assist and equip Christian Families with a biblical view and process for raising children. For more information, visit www.fbalions.org.

Would you like to know what’s happening in DC 120 each and every weekend? If you’re interested, send your 1st through 4th grade children to KidzTown Worship. They’ll be sure to tell you that we worship “Kid Style” as we continue our series called, “Kingdom Tales”. This week we will be looking at Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the book of Daniel as our children learn to stand up for what is right no matter what. Our children will tell you that we have a great time studying God’s Word, singing His praises, and seeking His will. At the conclusion of KidzTown Worship, your child will be escorted to his KidzTown Neighborhood (BLG) where he/she will further learn more from God’s Word and experience the love of God in a relational small group atmosphere, while you, the parent, have the opportunity to be a part of an adult BLG. Be a part of the fun and experience the blessings today- you and your child!
