EVERYTHING FOR YOUR HORSE AND MORE

AT HALLWOOD FEED STORE!

MOTHER and daughter Debbie Garratt and Stephanie Shaw started Hallwood Feed Store eight years ago. Originally trading from a little shed, they have steadily built the business up and moved their premises into a converted dairy barn. They are stockists of Cardio Martin, NAF, Spillers, Baileys, Allen & Paige to name but a few. Hallwood also have their own on-site products such as home grown hay, and coarse mix, in fact anything for the horse. They also supply the nearby University of Liverpool Leahurst Veterinary Hospital. Hallwood Feed Store offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in which to shop or browse. Debbie and Steph are always on hand and willing to help and give expert advice on such things as dietary requirements and horse applications. Hallwood is due to be extended soon to include a new rabbit and poultry section

JUNE proved to be a big month for Neston, with the first meeting of the new town council, along with the annual ladies’ day and the rain-hit Burton and Puddington fete. We’ve featured all three in this edition, along with a report from Neston Nomads’ trip to France and lots more news from across the CH64 area. Among the events to watch out for this month are the Willaston Festival and a musical evening at Stanney Fields Park. As usual we’ve got all you need for the forthcoming month, including a comprehensive what’s on guide. Please remember to support your local advertisers

Railway station makeover promise

6

NESTON Civic Society are hoping that Arriva will honour their promise to spruce up the railway station. Society members continue to keep an eye on Neston Station, which they ‘adopted’ in 2006. The mural, which won the Cheshire Best Kept Station Youth Challenge Award, continues to brighten up the underpass, and they are looking forward to a second mural on the other side, and to a makeover of the station promised by Arriva. Meanwhile, volunteers are looking after the plants at the station. The Society is delighted that Neston Parish Council is now in being after their campaign to get it established, which they started in 2005. Four members of the committee (Celia Garvey, Janet Griffiths, Pat Hughes and Tom Marlow) are councillors. Members continue to look after plants at Neston Cross and in front of Neston Town Hall. The bird cherry tree planted by the Mayor of Ellesmere Port and Neston in Station Road , Neston, is thriving, and the plaque records the success of Neston and Little Neston in winning the Cheshire Community Pride Award in 2008. The society’s meeting on ‘The Silk Road – a Journey from Beijing to Moscow ’ by Glynn Parry is at 8pm, Thursday 16th July 16 at the United Reformed Church Hall, Parkgate Road , Neston. Visitors and new members are most welcome. Contact Janet Griffiths ([email protected], phone 336 5478). It is a fact: Vanilla is the world’s most popular flavour.

FOCUS ON: MEBoyd Plastering TIME served plasterer Mike Boyd has just started his new business. Mike does all aspects of plastering as well as rendering, pointing and artex removal. His speciality that separates him from most of his plastering competitors is that he is also fully qualified in polished plaster and textured walls. Most companies either offer just the standard plastering or just the polished plastering not many do both. Mike and his wife Stephanie decided to set up MEB Plastering two months ago. With Mike’s plastering talents and Stephanie’s business experience they hope to build a successful company over the coming years to cover the Wirral, Cheshire and Merseyside areas. Said Mike: “We have done lots of research on our competitors pricing so therefore believe we can offer professional services at affordable prices. “We will offer a 5% discount to customers who return to us for further work.” The plaudits have already come in for Mike’s work with one Neston man saying: “Excellent service extremely pleased with the results. I came home expecting to clean up and it was cleaner than when I’d gone out!” For more details, go on line at www.meboydplastering. co.uk, email Mike at [email protected] or call 08000 828 521 or 0151 353 8227

 THE Chester Road car park has been attracting a few complaints due to the narrowness of the parking bays. The markings have been put in as a temporary measure as part of the continuing redevelopment of the area which will culminate in a new supermarket. However, a number of people have struggled to get out of their cars due to the width of the parking bays which meet the minimum size for temporary works. The spaces to be provided on the former Belmont Cottage site will be wider to accommodate larger vehicles. The British Legion is available for town centre parking, 8am - 6pm Monday to Saturday, free of charge.  EXPECT a few roadworks in Parkgate over the next few weeks when Welsh Water carry out pipework repairs. The company is upsizing and replacing 90m of wastewater pipes from Leighton Road into Earle Drive. It is hoped that the work will be a help to thoseaffected by internal sewer flooding. There will be a road closure in operation on Leighton Road for the duration. True story: The World’s longest sausage was 13 miles long.

Lambanana needs a good home THE family of a seriously ill man want to find a good home for their Beatles lambanana. The sculpture has been in Maria and Paul Challis’s Neston garden for quite some time but the couple are anxious to find it a permanent home. Paul is gravely ill and Maria is keen to carry out his last request. She said: “We are looking for a more permanent home for our John Lennon lambanana. We did have a lot of requests a while ago for him but when Paul got ill it went on the back burner. “It was never meant for our back garden, it should be where the public can see it, that was what Paul always felt should happen and I would like to carry out this last request for him.” If you think you can offer a suitable home for the sculpture please call the magazine on 01244 350398 or email [email protected] Maria, her family and friends are taking part in the Race for Life at Birkenhead this month to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
