WELCOME TO PEACE WITH CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH! We give thanks to God that you are joining us today! Many of our guests are seeking a home church where they can be part of the Fellowship of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Peace with Christ is a congregation that is a family not an “organization”. We are small enough to allow people to know each other by name, and yet large enough to offer opportunities for growth and service. What we “specialize” in is not programs or productions, but simply The Gospel of Our Lord Jesus. Christ, His Word, and the Cross are what provide the foundation for faith and ministry. If you have jars to donate, please leave them in the kitchen for Cheryl. ♦ June’s mission project benefiting Lisa Beckendorf, a missionary with Lutheran Bible Translators stationed in Africa, reached a final total of $150! Funds are being sent this week. Thank you for your gifts to Lisa! All ladies of PWC are invited to St. John’s LWML Annual Potluck Picnic. The Picnic will be held at St. Johns in the Fellowship Hall on August 11th at 6:00 p.m. Please bring your favorite dish to share.

TAG - August 4th at 11:30am We will meet at the church at 11:30am and carpool to Gateway Natural Area for a picnic. It is 5.2 miles up Poudre Canyon and is wheelchair accessible. Bring a dish to share. Also bring lawn chairs and outdoor games. Tableware and drinks will be furnished. All older adults are welcome to attend this Older Adult Ministry group.

We will plan a BBQ and games for the Olympics. We will meet on Wednesday, September 2 and September 9th to plan and have a Bible Study. SIGN-UP!! Invasion of Brule: It was a huge success! We had a wonderful time and were able to complete all but one of the jobs and even managed to add a few extra jobs. Family Education Night The first night for FED is planned for September 9th. There will be an organizational meeting Wednesday, August 5th at 5:30 for anyone interested in helping this year. Thank you to everyone who has brought food and clothing for the St. John’s Lutheran Church food pantry and closet. You have been a blessing to many families. During the first two weeks of August we will be collecting school clothing for teens and elementary kids, shoes, jeans, shorts, t-shirts, school supplies, cereals (dry and hot), tomato products, pasta, rice, flour, soup, tuna, bread, and buns. A READING FROM THE BOOK OF CONCORD THE LARGE CATECHISM THE MASS NINTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Christ instituted the Sacrament to enliven terrified hearts, since He commanded the disciples to do this in remembrance of Him. Remembering Christ is not the useless celebration. It is not something set up for the sake of example, as the memory of Hercules is celebrated. Rather, it is remembering Christ's benefits and receiving them through faith, to be enlivened by them. So Psalm 111:4-5 says, "He has caused His wondrous works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear Him." The Sacrament illustrates that God's will and mercy should be discerned in the ceremony. Faith that grasps mercy enlivens. This is the chief use of the Sacrament. Clearly those with terrified consciences are fit for the Sacrament. The Fathers speak of a twofold effect: the comfort of consciences and thanksgiving, or praise. The former of these effects has to do with the nature of the Sacrament; the latter has to do with the sacrifice. Ambrose says about comfort: Go to Him and be absolved, because He is the forgiveness of sins. Do you ask who He is? Hear Him when He says, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst" (John 6:35). This passage declares that the forgiveness of sins is offered in the Sacrament. (paragraphs 71-73, 75)

Macau – August 1-15 LCMS World Mission began work in Macau in 1988. LCMS missionaries established Concordia English Center. The center uses a combination of English-as-a-ForeignLanguage teaching, small-group Bible studies, and various fellowship activities to gather and evangelize both Cantonese-speaking residents of Macau and Mandarinspeaking migrant workers from surrounding areas.

Daily Prayers: Sunday: For the schools of The Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod in Macau and other areas—that many students will come to know the Lord through the teaching at these schools. Monday: For Sharon Owens, the strategic volunteer coordinator for Macau, Mary Eddy U, the Macau team leader, and soon-toarrive Matt Myers, manager of the Concordia English Center, as they lead the rest of the Macau team. Ask the Holy Spirit to give them clear guidance and mission casting for the new GEO missionaries Tuesday: For all of the GEO missionaries serving in Macau: John and Doris Bowerman, Mary Eddy U, Jessica Luebbe, David Pfeifer, Michael Ulrich, Bryn Welcenbach, and Kali Williams. Wednesday: For a fast and smooth adjustment for the new GEO missionaries who will soon be joining the Macau team: Jonathan Braun, Nicholas and Ashley Tieman, and Bob and Eileen Roberts. Thursday: For career missionary Sharon Owens, her daughter Joanna, and newly adopted son Peter—pray that the Lord would bless them as they grow together as a family. Friday: That the many students who come to the English Center in search of ways to improve their English skills may also find Jesus, as English teachers share the Gospel with them. Saturday: For the special outreach events that the missionaries host at the English Center, including the Friday night Bible studies and other special events that occur on a regular basis.
