CHAPMAN VALLEY CRICKET CLUB V

TOWNS ROUND 4 @ NABAWA 8th November 2008 Chapman Valley 6 for 179 (S Emerson 94 no, M Friday 21) Towns 154 (P Sorgiovanni 3 for 48, A Bartlett 2 for 25, M Houston 2 for 27) Another day in cricketing paradise out at the Valley saw Tex again lose the toss and have the Valley put into bat. Adrian (Phoo Bear) Bartlett played his first game of the year as did Ronny (The Whopper) Payne. Again the Valley got away to a solid start before losing Frieds (21) in the 7th over to a catch at long on (The fielder having been put there 1 ball before not having to move!). After losing Higgo and then Kingy we were 3 for 49 in the 16th over. Senior Sorge and Shaun (Ninge) Emerson batted steadily to put on another 36 before the partnership of 59 between Ninge and Macca! Macca’s nimble pace and cat like agility between the wickets helped get Ninge closer to the illusive 100 and the Valley into a match winning position. Ninge batted beautifully to end up on 94 not out and was ably supported by Tex and Biggsy at the death. After a mini player revolt following Tex’s refusal to wear the yellow duck the Valley took the field. Despite nearly being killed by a straight drive Kingy broke the opening partnership in the 5th over. A 44 run partnership had Towns in a good position until Tex snared two quick wickets in the 60’s. Wickets at regular intervals by Bardi and Senior Sorge had us in a great position but to Towns credit they held on with the 9th wicket putting on 17 and the final wicket 19 to have them all out for 154. Ninge was again in the action behind the stumps with a reflex caught behind and two great stumpings off Sorge. Sorge pulled off a fantastic diving run out off his own bowling (It’s funny how well he fields off his own bowling!) which was almost forgotten when being hit for 6 the very next ball by a 14 year old! (6 on any ground in the world!). Macca, Frieds and Bardi shared the fielding votes in another stunning display of athleticism. All in all it was a fine team performance despite Tex’s refusal at the duck! Next week sees the Valley take on second placed Sportsman’s at Wonthella oval. We’d love to see you there!

Congratulations to the award winners. THE CHIS AND FIPS AWARD – Shaun Emerson THE AUSTRALIAN PREMIER SEAFOOD AWARD – Justin Collins
