CHAPMAN VALLEY CRICKET CLUB V BLUFF POINT ROUND 3 @ NORTHAMPTON 7th November 2009 Chapman Valley 207 – Richard Attrill 67, Mike Friday 50, Jimmy Billings 20 Bluff Point 118 – Zane Robinson 3 for 31, Adam Foster 2 for 19, Daniel Gill 2 for 31 Once again Higgo showed astute leadership pre-game. His late arrival due to ‘technical difficulties’ combined with Bluff Point’s very early arrival had the opposition (as well as the rest of us) confused before a ball was bowled. Fossie arrived late only to leave so he could be even later! Batting first we lost an early wicket but a rapid fire 63 run partnership between Toby Johnson (11) and Frieds (50) in 13 overs saw the Rams go to drinks at 1 for 72. Toby and Frieds then went in quick succession before a 44 run partnership between Rat (67) and Nathan Smith (11) saw the score move to 120. A series of handy partnerships and some strong batting by Jiminy “Cricket” Billings (20) and John Norgate (10) saw the Rams make a strong 207. Late in the innings Daniel Gill showed he can handle a bat. We are yet to see if he can actually use one! Soft hands Friday grassed a sitter at first slip off the second ball of the day by Gilly (2 for 31) in what could have been an omen …. but the boys responded quickly with Robbo (3 for 31) combining with “Mitts” Foster the first ball of the second over. Fossy took three wonderful catches for the day! Robbo and Gilly bowled very well early to have the Pointers at 5 for 42 after 10. The boys were cock-a-hoop and dreaming of early beers ….UNTIL … possibly the most boring piece of batsmanship ever seen saw no wickets for 15 overs. Eventually Bluff Point were dismissed for 118 in the 36th over. Fossie (2 for 19) and Gary Trezona (1 for 25) bowled well as did Toby Johnson (1 for 6) and Blake ‘is there nothing I can’t do?’ Medway (1 for 3). After fielding like a panther in the first game Frieds looked more like Fat Cat this week. Apart from Jimmy’s hammy and Fried’s injured pride we escaped unharmed. The afternoon teas were magnificent and once again all the players chipped in and did their bit on and off the field. My thanks to Max Williams for opening up the facilities for us and to the fellas who could make it to the top pub in Northampton for a BBQ. We hope to have a Friday evening “training” run in Northampton in the next few weeks to be followed by a BBQ. Higgo (Geraldton Party Bus Hire) has offered the use of the bus so transport is not an issue. Hopefully most of you can make it!
Congratulations to Richard Attrill on winning the Boatshed Restaurant Award for this week. Next week’s game sees the B grade playing out at the Valley for the first time this year. Thanks to those players who have already paid fees. Good luck to both teams and …. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! Support the People who support us.
