CHAPMAN VALLEY CRICKET CLUB V BLUFF POINT ROUND 3 @ NABAWA 1st November 2008 Chapman Valley 7 for 241 (P Sorgiovanni 97 no, King 23 no, Friday 21, Higgins 21) Northampton 7 for 228 (P Sorgiovanni 3 for 17, King 3 for 19, Kupsch 2 for 13) Our first game of the year out at the Valley saw the debut of Justin (the Supersub) Collins, who answered our call for help at late notice and the return of Colin (Bluey) Scott. Batting first The Valley got away to a solid start with a run rate of nearly 7 after the first 11 overs. Good partnership throughout helped to build a sound foundation for a big score if somebody could go on with it! Enter Phil (Senior) Sorgiovanni who batted very well indeed to finish on 97 no! Yep! What a choker! All but one batsmen made double figures in what was a great team effort. Lead out on to the field by Tex (who wore the little yellow duck on his hat like he was born with it!) we soon made inroads into the Pointers line up and had them 4 for 8 after 6 overs. Kingy (3 for 19) and Kupschy (2 for 13) bowled very well! The ball of the day was a superb inswinger from Kupschy that the batsman left only to have the top of off stump hit! Senior Sorge again shone in picking up 3 for 17 at the death! Some would say he was collecting rabbits but we’re not that unkind! Blue Scott to a fine falling forward catch at gully and Ginge Emerson took a sharp catch behind the stumps. Once again Frieds was panther like in the field, his pace and athleticism are a real asset to the team! It was great to see the Sorgiovanni clan arrive to watch the spectacle and we’d love to see more of our supporters at the match. Afternoon teas were again wonderful. We are once again at the Valley next week against Towns.
Congratulations to the award winners. THE CHIS AND FIPS AWARD – Phil Sorgiovanni THE AUSTRALIAN PREMIER SEAFOOD AWARD – Chris King
PLEASE, REMEMBER TO SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! Lost – one set of bowling to the field plans! Please return to Kingy! One roll of duck tape – please return to Tex! (The last player to make a duck wears a little yellow duck on their hat whilst fielding! We’ve not had another duck since Tex’s effort in round 1!)
