Proverbs 19 Patience, caring for the poor, watching what you say, diligence vs. being overly eager, being truthful & judgment The Book of Proverbs Chapter 19

Proverbs 19:1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. A man may be poor, but if he is a man of honor, and integrity, and a man that keeps his word, then he is a man that is valuable to all men. Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity: Mark And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the 12:41 treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. Mark And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 12:42 Mark And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this 12:43 poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: Mark For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, 12:44 even all her living. In scripture, the poor may be: O Rich in faith

James 2:5 O Liberal (Generous) Mark 12:42; 2 Corinthians 9:12

O Wise

Proverbs 28:11 O Upright Proverbs 19:1 than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. Ecclesiastes Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better. 10:11 Ecclesiastes The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow 10:12 up himself. Ecclesiastes The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is 10:13 mischievous madness.

Proverbs 19:2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; Hosea My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I 4:6 will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. Hosea As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into 4:7 shame. and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. Feet that be swift in running to mischief is one of the seven abominations in Proverbs 6:16-19. Proverbs He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit 14:29 exalteth folly.

haste Pronunciation: \’hāst\ Function: noun 1. Overly eager speed (and possible carelessness); "he soon regretted his haste". 2. The act of moving hurriedly and in a careless manner; "in his haste to leave he forgot his book". 3. A condition of urgency making it necessary to hurry; "in a hurry to lock the door".

Proverbs 19:3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD. The foolishness of man perverteth his way: Galatians I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ 1:6 unto another gospel: Galatians Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the 1:7 gospel of Christ. Galatians But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that 1:8 which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Galatians As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you 1:9 than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Jesus’ interesting comment to the Pharisees about their foolish and perverse way of thinking: Matthew 23:24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. and his heart is resentful and frets against the Lord.

Revelation 16:8 Revelation 16:9 Revelation 16:10 Revelation 16:11

And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

Proverbs 19:4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour. Wealth brings many new friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend. Proverbs 14:20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends. Note: The word “wealth” is used thirty times in scripture:

Proverbs 19:5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. A false witness shall not be unpunished: Deuteronomy If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is 19:16 wrong; Deuteronomy Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the 19:17 LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days; Deuteronomy And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a 19:18 false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother; Deuteronomy Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so 19:19 shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

Proverbs 19:6 Many will entreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts. Proverbs 14:20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

Proverbs 19:7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him. The royal law: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin. James Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, 2:5 and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? James But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the 2:6 judgment seats? James Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? 2:7 James If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as 2:8 thyself, ye do well: James But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as 2:9 transgressors.

Proverbs 19:8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must 11:6 believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding. That understanding is the Holy Spirit. I John And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we 5:20 may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. I John Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. 5:21

Proverbs 19:9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish. All liars will suffer the second death: Revelation He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my 21:7 son. Revelation But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and 21:8 whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Proverbs 19:10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes. Delight is not seemly for a fool; Esther So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom 6:6 the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself? Esther And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour, 6:7 Esther Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king 6:8 rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head: Esther And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble 6:9 princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour. Esther Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast 6:10 said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken. much less for a servant to have rule over princes: Matthew 10:24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

Proverbs 19:12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass. The king's Revelation 6:14 Revelation 6:15

wrath is as the roaring of a lion; And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; Revelation And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him 6:16 that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: Revelation For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? 6:17 But his favour is as dew upon the grass. Proverbs 19:15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; Matthew Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 24:42 Matthew But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief 24:43 would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Matthew Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 24:44 Matthew Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his 24:45 household, to give them meat in due season? Proverbs 19:16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets: Matthew Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and 22:35 saying, Matthew Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

22:36 Matthew 22:37 Matthew 22:38 Matthew 22:39 Matthew 22:40

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. Caring for the poor is lending to the LORD; Luke Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, 6:38 and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Proverbs 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. The number seven in the bible means completion. The book of Proverbs tells us seven times to chasten our children if we love them.

Proverbs 3:12 Proverbs 13:24 Proverbs 19:18 Proverbs 22:15 Proverbs 23:13 Proverbs 29:15 Proverbs 29:17

For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

Proverbs 19:19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again. A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: James Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to 1:19 wrath: James For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. There are many devices in a man's heart; Proverbs For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: 1:29 Proverbs They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 1:30 Proverbs Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own 1:31 devices. nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. Proverbs 19:24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. Proverbs 19:25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge. Examples were made out of sinners in the camp with Moses: I Corinthians Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil 10:6 things, as they also lusted. I Corinthians Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat 10:7 down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. I Corinthians Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day 10:8 three and twenty thousand. I Corinthians Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of 10:9 serpents. I Corinthians Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the 10:10 destroyer. I Corinthians Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for

our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Proverbs 19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach. Proverbs 19:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. My son, stop listening to teaching that will cause you to turn away from the words of much learning. I Timothy Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good 1:5 conscience, and of faith unfeigned: I Timothy From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; 1:6 I Timothy Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof 1:7 they affirm. I Timothy But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; 1:8 I Timothy Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and 1:9 disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, I Timothy For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for 1:10 liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; I Timothy According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. 1:11

Proverbs 19:28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. An ungodly witness mocks at judgment & swallows iniquity: Job 15:16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?

Proverbs 19:29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools. Psalm 107:17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
