Proverbs Chapter 24

Proverbs 24:1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. Proverbs 24:2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief. Be not thou envious against evil men: Psalm A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against 37:1 the workers of iniquity. Psalm For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. 37:2 Psalm Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be 37:3 fed. Neither desire to be with them: Numbers But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall 33:55 come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Numbers Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them. 33:56 II Chronicles And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem. 19:1 II Chronicles And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king 19:2 Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD. For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

I Timothy 6:3 I Timothy 6:4 I Timothy 6:5

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

Verses 1 & 2 warn us about those who acquire ill gotten gain, but verses 3 & 4 tell us about the blessings that come from wisdom, understanding and knowledge.

Proverbs 24:3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: Proverbs 24:4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Proverbs 24:5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength. God was pleased that Solomon asked for wisdom and not wealth, so he received both. I Kings In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I 3:5 shall give thee. I Kings And Solomon said, Thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, 3:6 according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. I Kings And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: 3:7 and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. I Kings And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that 3:8 cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. I Kings Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern 3:9 between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? I Kings And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 3:10 I Kings And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself 3:11 long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; I Kings Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an 3:12 understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

Proverbs 24:6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety. Words of Jesus in the book of Luke: Luke For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, 14:28 whether he have sufficient to finish it? Luke Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it 14:29 begin to mock him, Luke Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. 14:30 Luke Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and 14:31 consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him

with twenty thousand? Luke Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth 14:32 conditions of peace. Luke So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my 14:33 disciple. Rehoboam forsook the wise counsel of the old men and sought the kind of counsel that was pleasing to his ear. That was a big mistake. I Kings And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father 12:6 while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people? I Kings And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and 12:7 wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever. I Kings But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with 12:8 the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him: I Kings And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have 12:9 spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter? I Kings And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou 12:10 speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

Proverbs 24:7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

Psalm 5:4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. Psalm 5:5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Psalm 5:6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

Proverbs 24:8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person. Proverbs 24:9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men. Proverbs 24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. When Israel went into captivity, many men fainted. Jeremiah Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every 30:6 man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? The church of Ephesus did not faint in the face of adversity: Revelation Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the 2:1 seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; Revelation I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them 2:2 which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: Revelation And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not 2:3 fainted.

Proverbs 24:11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; Proverbs 24:12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works? Galatians 6:7 Galatians 6:8 Galatians 6:9

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Proverbs 24:13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: Proverbs 24:14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off. Thy expectation shall not be cut off. Romans 8:24 Romans 8:25

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Proverbs 24:15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place: Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. It’s interesting to note how many times Peter fell and got up in scripture, but Judas only fell once: Psalm To the chief Musician, Altaschith, Michtam of David; when Saul sent, and they watched 59:1 the house to kill him. Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. Psalm Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. 59:2 Psalm For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my 59:3 transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. Psalm They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold. 59:4 Psalm Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: 59:5 be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah. For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: Colossians And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, 1:21 yet now hath he reconciled Colossians In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and 1:22 unreproveable in his sight:

Colossians 1:23

If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; but the wicked shall fall into mischief. Hebrews For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the 6:4 heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, Hebrews And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6:5 Hebrews If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to 6:6 themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Proverbs 24:17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Proverbs 24:18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. Proverbs 25:21 Proverbs 25:22

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Proverbs 24:19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked; Proverbs 24:20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: Revelation And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the 2:8 last, which was dead, and is alive; Revelation I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the 2:9 blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Revelation Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of 2:10 you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelation He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that 2:11 overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. There shall be no reward to the evil man; Revelation 3:14 Revelation 3:15 Revelation 3:16

And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

The candle of the wicked shall be put out. (Ephesus letter) Revelation 2:4

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Revelation 2:5

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Proverbs 24:21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: Proverbs 24:22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both? The message to the angel of the church of Pergamos was to meddle not with them that are given to change: Revelation But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the 2:14 doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. Revelation So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate. 2:15 Revelation Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the 2:16 sword of my mouth.

Proverbs 24:23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. Thyatira tolerated Jezebel because of her position, her popularity, and maybe even her wealth. God is not a respecter of persons: Revelation And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of 2:18 God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; Revelation I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy 2:19 works; and the last to be more than the first. Revelation Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman 2:20 Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. Revelation And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 2:21 Revelation Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great 2:22 tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. Revelation And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he 2:23 which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Proverbs 24:24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: Proverbs 24:25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them. A message to the angel of the church of Ephesus: Revelation 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

Proverbs 24:26 Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer. Proverbs 24:27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

Solomon observed this rule himself in building the house of God; all was made ready before it was brought to the ground: I Kings And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was 6:7 brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor ax nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building. Before marriage and before making a family, we should be established first. Preparing the mansion first, was job of the Jewish bridegroom, before he came back for his bride. Revelation And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, 21:2 prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with 21:3 men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Proverbs 24:28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips. Jezebel was a false witness and a deceiver: I Kings 21:9 I Kings 21:10

And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people: And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die. I Kings And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his 21:11 city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. I Kings They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. 21:12 I Kings And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial 21:13 witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

Proverbs 24:29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work. Jezebel and those who followed her were paid back for their iniquities: I Kings And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of 21:23 Jezreel. I Kings Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall 21:24 the fowls of the air eat. The church in Philadelphia is being assured that their enemies will be dealt with by God: Revelation 3:9 Revelation 3:10 Revelation 3:11

Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Proverbs 24:30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; Proverbs 24:31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Proverbs 24:32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Revelation 3:1 Revelation 3:2

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

Proverbs 24:33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: Proverbs 24:34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man. Be watchful: Revelation Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If 3:3 therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
