Chapter 10 The Book of Proverbs Chapters 10-24 are set in order by King Solomon. The Proverbs of Solomon / the Parables of Jesus
Proverbs 10:1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. Obedience to parents is pleasing to God: Colossians Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 3:20 Proverbs 10:2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: James 5:1 James 5:2 James 5:3
Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. James Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are 5:4 entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consist not in the abundance of the things which he possesses: Luke 12:16 Luke 12:17 Luke 12:18 Luke 12:19 Luke 12:20 Luke 12:21
And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
But righteousness delivereth from death; Seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you: Luke 12:22 Luke 12:23 Luke 12:24 Luke 12:25 Luke 12:26 Luke 12:27 Luke 12:28 Luke 12:29 Luke 12:30 Luke 12:31
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Proverbs 10:3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
In this parable, Jesus tells his disciples that The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: Then He lets them know who the righteous are; Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; Luke 12:35 Luke 12:36 Luke 12:37 Luke 12:38 Luke 12:39 Luke 12:40 Luke 12:41 Luke 12:42
And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. But the servant that deals with a slack hand, will have his portion with the unbelievers: Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Luke 12:43 Luke 12:44 Luke 12:45 Luke 12:46
Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
Proverbs 10:5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
He that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame: Luke 12:47 Luke 12:48
And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Proverbs 10:6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. Blessings are upon the head of the just: Hebrews 10:38 Hebrews 10:39
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked: Romans 3:13 Romans 3:14 Romans 3:15 Romans 3:16 Romans 3:17 Romans 3:18
Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot. Luke 14:11
For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Proverbs 10:8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. Hypocrites are prating fools: Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, Matthew 15:7
Matthew 15:8 Matthew 15:9
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Old Testament reference to Matthew 15:7 Isaiah Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their 29:13 mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: Isaiah Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, 29:14 even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. Proverbs 10:9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
He that perverteth his ways shall be known: He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him; Proverbs 26:24 Proverbs 26:25 Proverbs 26:26
When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be showed before the whole congregation.
Proverbs 10:10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall. A prating fool shall fall into the ditch: Matthew 15:12 Matthew 15:13 Matthew 15:14
Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Proverbs 10:11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. Hatred stirreth up strifes:
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. Proverbs 13:10 Love your enemies: Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on 5:45 the unjust. Matthew 5:43 Matthew 5:44
But love covereth all sins: John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Charity shall cover the multitude of sins: I Peter 4:8
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
Proverbs 10:13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding. Parable of the sower and the four types of soils; Jesus is the sower and the seeds are the word of God. Matthew 13:3 Matthew 13:4 Matthew 13:5 Matthew 13:6 Matthew 13:7 Matthew 13:8
And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
All through scripture, birds are idioms for spirits. The fowls in this parable are evil spirits and ministers of Satan.
A rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding: Matthew When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his 13:19 heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. Proverbs 10:14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction. This foolish person mentioned in Matthew 13:5 had an opportunity to hear the word, but did not lay up knowledge, therefore when tribulation came, he fainted. Matthew 13:20 Matthew 13:21
But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
Study the word and become well grounded. Pray often and build a relationship with the Lord. Hold fast. When tribulation comes, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. Proverbs 10:15 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty. This is a trap we are all in danger of falling into: The rich man letting his strong city and the care of this world deceive him to the point of choking the word and becoming unfruitful. Bringing him to poverty in the spirit. Matthew 13:22
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
The word “city” can represent a persons spirit in scripture:
Proverbs 25:28
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Wealth and earthly riches can bring pride and arrogance: Proverbs 18:11
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: The church in Smyrna is full of righteousness, therefore they are wealthy:
Revelation I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are 2:9 the synagogue of Satan. Revelation Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation 2:10 ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelation He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. 2:11 The destruction of the poor is their poverty: The church of the Laodiceans choose to labor to be rich, but they forgot their priorities: I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: Revelation I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy 3:18 nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Revelation 3:15 Revelation 3:16 Revelation 3:17
Proverbs 10:16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin. The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: Matthew But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an 13:23 hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. The fruit of the wicked to sin: Matthew 7:16 Matthew 7:17 Matthew 7:18 Matthew 7:19 Matthew 7:20
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Proverbs 10:17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. Proverbs 10:18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. Proverbs 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. He that refraineth his lips is wise: The scribes loved to make long prayers just for show: Mark 12:38 Mark 12:39 Mark 12:40
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
Proverbs 10:20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned: Matthew 12:36 Matthew 12:37
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Proverbs 10:21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom. sport: 7814 שׂחק

There are plenty of radio talk show host that fall under the definition of Proverbs 26:1819. Taking verbal jabs at people of other races, and then hiding behind free speech. As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, Proverbs 26:18 Proverbs 26:19
So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
Proverbs 10:24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. In this parable, the wicked and slothful servant’s fear came upon his head when he was cast into outer darkness, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth:
Matthew 25:14 Matthew 25:15 Matthew 25:16 Matthew 25:17 Matthew 25:18 Matthew 25:19 Matthew 25:20 Matthew 25:21 Matthew 25:22 Matthew 25:23 Matthew 25:24 Matthew 25:25
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strowed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
Proverbs 10:25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation. Proverbs 10:26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him. As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: Matthew 25:26 Matthew 25:27
His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strowed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
But the righteous is an everlasting foundation:
Matthew 25:28 Matthew 25:29
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him: Matthew 25:30 Matthew 25:31
And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Psalm 34:11 Psalm 34:12 Psalm 34:13 Psalm 34:14 Psalm 34:15
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
But the years of the wicked shall be shortened: Psalm 34:16
The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
Proverbs 10:28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. Proverbs 10:29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. Proverbs 10:30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth. Parable of the wheat and the tares:
Matthew 13:24 Matthew 13:25 Matthew 13:26 Matthew 13:27 Matthew 13:28 Matthew 13:29 Matthew 13:30
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
Parable of the wheat and the tares explained; The righteous shall never be removed: Matthew 13:36 Matthew 13:37 Matthew 13:38 Matthew 13:39
Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
But the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
Matthew 13:40 Matthew 13:41 Matthew 13:42 Matthew 13:43
As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Proverbs 10:31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
Proverbs 10:32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness. The mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness: Luke 12:3 Luke 12:4 Luke 12:5
Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: Hebrews 13:15
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
