Proverbs 13:2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

We are to use the mouth that God has given to us to save souls and do His will: Proverbs 12:14

A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompense of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

This is the law of reaping and sowing: Galatians 6:7 Galatians 6:8

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.

Proverbs 13:3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. We have to be able to control what we say. There are people who take pleasure in using their tongue to hurt others, but that filthy, vile, corruption comes from within the heart: Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Rather than being quick to react with harsh words when you are troubled, sometimes it is best to just not say anything at all and bring the situation to the Lord. Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. Proverbs 21:23 Once the matter has been taken to the Lord in prayer, then it is done. He will solve the problem and give you the words to say if it is in His will for you to say anything at all.

Even when a fool holds his peace, he can appear to be wise: Proverbs 17:28

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Put a stop to all corrupt communications coming out of your mouth: Ephesians 4:29 Ephesians 4:30 Ephesians 4:31 Ephesians 4:32

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. Philippians 3:18 Philippians 3:19

Proverbs 13:6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. Proverbs 13:7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. What hope do ungodly people, that step on others to be rich, have when their lives are cut off? Job 27:8

For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Store your treasures in heaven: Luke 12:33

Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: (The error of Balaam) Jude 1:11

Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches: II Corinthians As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. 6:10 God chose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him: James Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 2:5 Proverbs 13:8 The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: Job 2:4

And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

But the poor heareth not rebuke. The poor in verse eight actually refers to the one who makes himself rich and has nothing in verse seven. Ephesians 5:11

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Jesus’ parable about the four different types of soil in Mark 4:3-20 explains how a person who makes himself rich can become poor and unfruitful; Through the cares of this world:

And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, Mark 4:18 Mark 4:19

And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

There is nothing wrong with having wealth, but there is a code of conduct which goes along with keeping your heart in the place. Being highminded and arrogant comes from having a froward heart. I Timothy 6:17-19 is instruction to trust in the living God and to store your riches in heaven: I Timothy Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to 6:17 enjoy; I Timothy That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 6:18 I Timothy Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. 6:19 Revelation 3:17 is a message for those who are arrogant and put their trust in riches: Revelation Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, 3:17 and blind, and naked: Revelation I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy 3:18 nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Proverbs 13:9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

The light of the righteous rejoices to glorify your Father which is in heaven: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matthew 5:14 Matthew 5:15 Matthew 5:16

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out: Job 18:5 Job 18:6

Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. Here are laws concerning dishonest practices given to Moses by God: Leviticus And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 6:1 Leviticus If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a 6:2 thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour; Leviticus Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein: 6:3 Leviticus Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or 6:4 that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found, Leviticus Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to 6:5 whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offering. Here is a warning in scripture about defrauding your fellow man: I Thessalonians That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you 4:6 and testified. God will hear the cry of His people who have been defrauded: James Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are 5:4 entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. Hope deferred maketh the heart sick:

And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God’s stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Proverbs 13:13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. The words of Jesus: Luke 7:23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: (Message to the church in Sardis) Revelation And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that 3:1 thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Revelation Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. 3:2 Revelation Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and 3:3 thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. Revelation Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. 3:4 Revelation He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before 3:5 my Father, and before his angels. Revelation He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 3:6

Proverbs 13:14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. King Solomon’s law was a fountain of live while he walked with God. Here is the reaction found in the people of Israel to the ruling that he made concerning the dispute between the two mothers found in I Kings 3:16-28. I Kings And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment. 3:28 To depart from the snares of death: For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

Jeremiah 5:26

Proverbs 13:15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. Good understanding giveth favour: Proverbs 3:3 Proverbs 3:4

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

But the way of transgressors is hard: Titus 3:9

But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

Proverbs 13:16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly. A fool displays his stupidity:

Ecclesiastes 10:3

Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

Proverbs 13:17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

The third commandment not only has to do with language, it has to do with ambassadorship. If you are going to represent the King, then you better do so faithfully:

Exodus 20:7

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: Proverbs A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. 14:5 but a faithful ambassador is health: Proverbs As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters. 25:13

Proverbs 13:18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. Proverbs 13:19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. Proverbs 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

A companion of fools shall be destroyed. Romans chapter 1, starting at verse 18 to verse 32, addresses the fool that turns his back on God. Verse 32 makes it known that the companions of these fools will be destroyed also: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Romans Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart 1:21 was darkened. Romans Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 1:22 Romans And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 1:23 Romans Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 1:24 Romans 1:18 Romans 1:19 Romans 1:20

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Proverbs 13:21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. Trouble pursues the sinner, but the righteous are rewarded with good things: Psalms 32:10

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. A good man leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. Ecclesiastes For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he 2:26 may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit. Proverbs 13:23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment. Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

The number seven in the bible means completion. The book of Proverbs tells us seven times to chasten our children if we love them. Proverbs 22:15 lets us know that the rod of correction actually drives away evil spirits: Proverbs 3:12 Proverbs 13:24 Proverbs 19:18 Proverbs 22:15 Proverbs 23:13 Proverbs 29:15 Proverbs 29:17

For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

The Lord corrects who He loves: Deuteronomy Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee. 8:5 Endure chastening as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons: Hebrews 12:5 Hebrews 12:6 Hebrews 12:7 Hebrews 12:8 Hebrews 12:9 Hebrews 12:10 Hebrews 12:11

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Proverbs 13:25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want. The man who is right with God has all the food he needs, but the stomach of the sinful man never has enough. Our daily bread is the word of God, so this verse is talking about much more than just food: Proverbs The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked. 10:3
