21 AUGUSTUS 2009 Stock owners from around the area as far as Moroke gathered at Ardwick (Mokutung Village) near Echo Caves on Wednesday for a farmers day presented by the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and the Police, mainly to be informed about the Animal Indentification Act (Act 6 of 2002). Mr MA Muroa from the local Department of Agriculture office in Praktiseer, told farmers the importance of indentifying their animals.

NUUS as they wish. All owners of cattle, sheep, pigs and goats must register an identification mark at the Office of the Registrar of Animal Identification and all animals with invisible identification marks must be reidentified. Officials and the Police explained the process by which to register an identification mark. Mr Muroa explained to farmers that
from one month old. Branding of these animals are not allowed. Shoulds a marked animal be sold, the new oner should be provided with a letter of identification by the seller. Farmers then attended a practical demonstrastion of branding where it was explained to them that it is important that their branding marks should not differ from those received from the Registrar,
without the option of a fine. He stated that the Police has also arrested a man for stealing 14 goats, all loaded in the back of a 1400 Nissan bakkie, while another case where 14 goats was stolen was also investigated. As Platinum Gazette left, he told the newspaper he was on his way to Burgersfort to arrest a taxi owner who allegedly stole a number of cattle in Alverton.
Identification will help control stock theft animals may by marked by three methods, namely a hot iron, a freeze branding iron or by means of tattooing. Cattle can be marked with irons from six months of age, while the animals can be tattooed from one month old. Goats and sheep can be tattooed from one month old, branding is not allowed. Pigs and ostriches may also be tatooed
even if letters and marks seem to be upside down or reversed. Inspector David Mamphoke of the Police told Platinum Gazette that stock theft was a real problem in the area. Just a few weeks ago Lazarus Seeta Libiso was convicted in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court for stock theft and sentenced to three years imprisonment
He again stressed the importance of animal identification to farmers at the practical demonstration and the positive role animal identification is playing in the administration of justice. The formal part of the the farmers day was held at Mokutung Primary School, where the famers were entertained by the the school’s choir.

Grade 12 learners from Calvin College in Burgersfort decided an appropriate way to celebrate their 40 days last week Friday, was to take to Burgersfort’s streets en ask people for money so that they can buy toys for needy children at various care centres in the area. Not that it was not entertaining. The mimic group in the photograph created quite a stir with their performance at the shopping centre where they decided to strut their stuff. An educator at the School, ms melanie de bruyn told the newspaper that although some people were rude to the learners, they also had positive reaction. The learners collected more tha n R1700 rand and this amount was matched by the school, making the income for the day more substantial. Apart from that, they also received a number of pledges, still to calculated. The learners are challenging other schools in the area to beat what they have done, all in the name of a good cause! As soon as all the pledges have comemake arrangements to have the toys bought and to take their donations to the catre centres themselves.
Not even their mothers would have recognized them (right)

Should obtaining a driver’s licence become This week the Minister of Transport, Mr Sibusiso Ndebele told listeners of the SAFM programme, After Eight that his department is working on a plan to introduce training for drivers’ licences as part of the school curriculum. They are busy with discussions with the Department of Education concerning the possible implementation of this plan. Ndebele said that it is envisaged that schools will be provided with simulators to ensure proper training. The programme will target grade 11 and 12 learners. Road safety will form a large part of the subject content. According to Ndebele this will help create students that are not only a developed South Africans, but also possess certain life skills to be persons of the world. According to statistics mentioned only 7 million of South Africa’s 49 million people are in possession of a valid driver’s licence. At this stage there is no indication when and if this will be formalised as part of the school curriculum as discussions on the subject still continues. We asked our readers whether they thought this suggested inclusion will be effective and helpful.
Mr Elson Malope said: “The main thing is to learn the school children the right thing because other people now just go and buy their licence without proper training”.
Mr Jerry Mashile said: “I’don’t get the jobs because I don’t have a licence. It will be good for them”.
“I think it is a good thing because to start with, if it is done at school level with fresh minds they can understand well because it is not only a matter of driving, but also understanding the road rules and traffic signs,” said Mr Philemon Tshililo.
Mr Ralph Molatudi said: “I think that one is a great idea. If you don’t have a licence now you have to buy it from someone who sells it and then you don’t know how to drive”.
Mr Albert Mahlako said: “It’s good because most people can’t afford to pay for a licence”.
Mr Solomon Sekopa said: “It’s a good thing. They will start school and keep going until they are drivers”.
Mr Victor Masedi said: “It will be complete. It is a good thing as even young people can become interested in school when they know they can get a licence”.
Mr Aron Tswane said: “It’s a good idea. Many people don’t have a driver’s licence and they leave school before matric. It will motivate them to stay in school and it will make it easier for them to get a job when they are finished with their studies”.
Mr Caswell Khumalo said: “That’s great because we don’t have a licence and the jobs are scarce”.

a subject for grade 12 learners?
Mr Cecil Tebele said: “Everything has advantages and disadvantages. It will minimize accidents if they train the learners. The disadvantage is that they will know about cars and be able to steal cars and be able to drive them”.
“It’s probably a good thing. It would have been nice for me. The concept can work provided there is a process that facilitates it,” said Mr Lebogang Methomme.
Mnr.
Mr Themba Ngele said: “Ja, it’s wonderful. It’s like a package. When you pass matric you’ll have a licence and you won’t have to waste time to get it”.
Mnr.
“Yes! It’s very good. It is very important to learn to drive,” said Ms. Anna Mapanga.
Mr Mabutho Khoza said: “It’s a good thing. If it won’t disturb other studies. Most people are struggling to get their licence”.
Mnr. Dis sal korrupsie sny”.
Rudi Phetla said: “Personally I believe it is a good idea. We all want to get our licences. In matric there is not much time, and then we go and study and still need to get it. It will help students to get their licences before they go study the next year. Then we also won’t need to steal our parents’ cars!”
Ms Melanie de Bruyn said: “I think it is an excellent idea. We should not just teach but we must teach our learners life skills as well”.
Headman Emmanuel Mmopane said: “It’s a very good idea. I really agree with them. It will reduce accidents. We don’t get enough training at the driving schools. It is also expensive to get a drivers licence. If the minister says so, then go for it. Maybe it will also reduce the buying of licences.
Mr Michael Matsie said: “Yes, it’s a good thing to have a licence because when you buy a car you can drive safely”.

Maatlapo United well supported at home Maatlapo United FC played their first game on home ground last Saturday. Maatlapo United faced the Denilton Sweepers in a fast paced game that was full of injuries on especially the Sweepers’ side. Although Sweepers looked hungry for a goal Maatlapo showed their strenght and scored their first goal in the ninth minute of the game. In the second half Sweepers substituded players and tried their best to overwhelm the home team. They however wasted scoring opportunities and Maatlapo took advantage of this the regain control of the game. In the 54th minute of the game Stan Malegodi proved himself a star player when he scored the second goal for Maatlapo United. Stan was also named the man of the match for his excellent goals and outstanding performance on the field. At times the players seemed to lose their cool and this led to a yellow card for Maatlapo during the second half. The game ended 2-1 in favour of Maatlapo United. “We are very happy about their performance and we are even happier about the support that we’ve received from the crowd. We appeal to them to bring their friends along and to pack the stadium,” said the team’s public relations officer, Jimmy Makola. On Saturday, 22 August the team will play in the Nedbank Cup against Nchabeleng Youngsters at Longtill. The next league game will be at Mooihoek against Mooihoek XI Experience.

Die Tubatse Chroom Gholfklub beplan ‘n “Around the World” gholfdag op 5 September. By elke putjie word ‘n ander land voorgestel.
