CHARTERED FEB., 1948

z The week in photos z

Page 2 of this week’s edition of the Campbell Rotary Newsletter highlights our packing of back packs for the children of EMQ. 150 backpacks were made ready for school in no time at all. What a crew!!!

Campbell’s Chief of Police Greg Finch, the 7th Chief of Police for the City of Campbell, addressed the club on August 25th. Proudly proclaiming that his force is a well equipped, well trained, fairly compensated force, Chief Finch told us that he strives to run his department as a CEO would run a business. In his case, Chief Finch said “Service is our business.” From responding to generic phone inquiries to helping citizens report crime either in person or online, the Campbell Police Department attempts to serve the residents of this town. The Chief went on to cite some FBI data showing that Campbell’s serious crimes were down 9% between 2007 and 2008.

Coming Events

Sept. 2: Youth Cert. Training @ Sunnyvale Rotary, 7:00 PM Sept. 11: Blood Drive @ EMQ

He noted that Campbell has a reputation as a safe and friendly town. He also cautioned the audience that often the reported crime statistics may only represent 1/3 of the actual crime. An area of major concern to Chief Finch is the increase in DUI arrests in the city. Even though such arrests are on the rise, the number of injury accidents are way down. That is providing lifesaving service to people in Campbell. The Chief also recalled several instances where his department solved crime mysteries and, in some cases, just got lucky, to apprehend criminals. President Rick Davis artfully invited Chief Finch to return as a guest (and potential future member). He said he’d be happy to!

Sept. 14: Dinner Service @ EHC, 4:30 PM Sept. 19: Fun & Fitness @ Campbell Park, 8:30 AM
