z President Rick Outbids the Rest z
At last week’s meeting, President Rick Davis outbid all other bidders for the coveted Governor’s Gift brought in by Governor Loren Harper. The proceeds of the auction will go toward our clubs annual goal of $1,000 to support RI’s Polio Plus Program.

Nevirapene, it is possible to prevent HIV infection of new borns by giving just one dose to the mother as she goes into labor and one dose to the infant within 72 hours of birth. This simple practice can save almost 1,000 children a day from this incidious disease. To help fund the project, this year the Los Altos Rotary Club is sponsoring a Child AIDS Prevention Symposium at the Crowne Plaza Cabana in Palo Alto on Sunday, October 11 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. Featured speakers will include Ambassador Stephen Lewis, Director of AIDSFree World, and Paul Volberding, M.D., Co-Director of the UCSF-GIVI Center for AIDS Research. A social hour, with Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will precede the event. Tickets, $125 each, may be purchased online at www.rotaryaidsproject.org.

Saturday’s “Fun, Fitness & Fellowship” activity had beautiful weather and a very popular location for some early morning exercising and friendly conversation. The 90 minute event was organized by Judy Armstrong, who brought her husband and dog to lead the pack. Bill Highley, Janine Payton, Jim Morelan and John Shannon came out to enjoy all 3 “F’s.”
