BACKGROUND According to the Regulations of Republic Indonesia Number 18 Year 2008, waste is solid remains of human activities and / or natural process. While according to the Regulations of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 33 Year 2010, waste is solid remains of human activities and / or natural processwhich consisted of household waste and its kind. One of the complicated waste problems are market wastes, because in addition to their relatively large number, market waste also has their own kind problems such as health problems. This situation occurs in traditional markets as one of the most economic containers for urban communities. Activities such astransactions between traders and visitors indirectly caused waste accumulation in the market every day.

Definition of Waste Waste is something that cannot be utilized anymore or the remains of animal droppings or other objects that are thrown away. in broader definition, waste is a discarded object, whether from nature or from the results of technology processes.

B. Waste by Place/Location

Urban waste, that gathered in large cities and local waste, which gathered from villages, settlements and beaches.

C. Waste by Nature Based on its nature, waste is divided into organic waste and inorganic waste. Organic waste is organic remains generally from the agricultural sector and foods such as kitchen leftovers that are decayable. Inorganic waste is remains that cannot be decomposed from industrial products such as plastics, rubbers, and glasses.

Waste Management Waste processing includes collection, processing, and disposal to landfills. A waste management is considered good if the waste not became breeding ground and spreading vector for diseases. Another requirement that must be fulfilled in waste management is not to pollute the air, water or soil, does not cause odor, and does not cause fire and so on.

Awareness Of Environment and Waste Management Environmental awareness is an effort to involve every citizen in growing and nurturing awareness to preserve the environment based on the values, namely the value of the environment itself with the philosophy of living in peace with the natural environment. The cause of environmental awareness is environmental ethics. Environmental ethics which until now is still valid is ethics based on the value system that states the human being is not part of nature but as the regulators and conquerors of nature.

The Environmental Cleanliness Law No.23 of 1992 article 22 states that environmental health is held to realize the quality of a healthy environment is the environment that is free from risks that endanger human health and safety. Cleanliness is one of the signs of a good hygiene state. Environmental hygiene is the cleanliness of dwellings, workplaces, and public places.

This research is a descriptive research with qualitative approach. B.

The location taken in this study was conducted in Balong Market, Kecamatan Balong, Ponorogo between February to April. C.

Research Design

The research will be conducted by field research, which is a direct observation of the researched object in order to get a relevant data. D.

Research Results The types variable consists of five indicators which are Liquid( Item 1), Solid ( Item 2), Hazardous( Item 3), Bio-degradable ( Item 4), and Non-degradable (Item 5). It is the result of the description analysis described in Table. The average value of the waste variable is 1.275 and is included in the low category. This shows that the type of waste generated by human activity in malong market is at a low level. In the most widely used garbage dump market is solid waste with a mean of 2.49, with respondents choosing solid waste with a small category as much as 3.1%, a standard category of 51.0%, moderate category of 39.6%, and a lot categories as much as 6.3%. For liquid waste having an average mean of 1.38, hazardous waste has a mean of 1.04, biodegradable waste has a mean of 1.38, and nondegradable waste has a mean of 1.13. Based on observations and data, the most widely generated means is solid waste.

The types variable consists of five indicators which are waste selection (Management 1), Using plastic bag (Management 2), Using wood for container (Item 3), Garbage Storage by letting the place open (Management 4), and There is a waste bin (Management 5) . It is the result of the description analysis described in Table. From the table it can be seen that the waste selection sometimes not done because it has a percentage of 53.1%, while as many as 46.9% not sorting waste. For the use of plastic bags is widely used by traders with 82.3% percentage. The use of wooden waste containers is not used in the Balong Market. During the closing of the market, waste collection as much as 95.8% is not done. For the availability of trash cans at each kiosk there are as many as 63.5%, and there is no waste bins for each kiosk as much as 36.5% Based on the observation and data processing and comparing the percentage, almost all sellers in Balong Market using plastic bag. Waste are never stored in wooden containers.
