NEWS AND NOTES FROM PEACE WITH CHRIST 1412 W. Swallow Road Fort Collins, CO 80526 970-226-4721 Pastor Ralph Patrick www.pwchrist-fc.org
November 22, 2009 Last Sunday of Church Calendar
WELCOME TO PEACE WITH CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH! We give thanks to God that you are joining us today! Many of our guests are seeking a home church where they can be part of the Fellowship of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Peace with Christ is a congregation that is a family not an “organization”. We are small enough to allow people to know each other by name, and yet large enough to offer opportunities for growth and service. What we “specialize” in is not programs or productions, but simply The Gospel of Our Lord Jesus. Christ, His Word, and the Cross are what provide the foundation for faith and ministry. If you are interested in learning more about Peace With Christ Lutheran Church, please call the church office at 226-4721. Pastor Patrick would welcome the opportunity to visit with you personally.
2 THE TIME before the service may be used for prayer and preparation. Read through the worship bulletin and familiarize yourself with the service. A READING FROM THE BOOK OF CONCORD FORMULA OF CONCORD, EPITOME ARTICLE IV: GOOD WORKS LAST SUNDAY OF THE CHURCH YEAR
Whether good works are necessary for preserving faith, righteousness, and salvation is another issue in dispute. This again is of high and great importance, for "the one who endures to the end will be saved". Faith [does not] lay hold of righteousness and salvation only in the beginning and then resigns its office to works as though they had to sustain faith, the righteousness received, and salvation. It means that the promise, not only of receiving, but also of retaining righteousness and salvation, is firm and sure to us. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. (Romans 11:20) [He will] present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him, if indeed you continue in the faith.(Colossians 1:22-23) By God's power [you] are being guarded through faith for a salvation. (1 Peter 1:5) Obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. [1 Peter 1:9] It is clear from God's Word that faith is the proper and only means through which righteousness and salvation are not only received, but also preserved by God. Therefore, it right to reject [those who] say our good works preserve salvation, or the righteousness of faith that has been received, or even faith itself. (paragraphs 30, 34-35)

Prayer and Study Date: November 22 - November 28 Luther Quote: “When a Christian begins to know Christ as his Lord and Savior, who has redeemed him from death, and is brought into His dominion and heritage, his heart is thououghly permeated by God; then he would like to help everybody attain this blessedness. For he has no greater joy than the treasured knowledge of Christ. So he begins to teach and exhort others, confesses and commends his blessedness before everybody, and sighs and prays that they, too, may come to this grace.” Bible readings for the week: Sunday: Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Saturday:
Psalm 142; Matthew 11-12 Psalm 143; Matthew 13-14 Psalm 144; Matthew 15-16 Psalm 145; Matthew 17-18 Psalm 146; Matthew 19-20 Psalm 147; Matthew 21-22 Psalm 148; Matthew 23-24
Urban mission work in the United States - Nov. 18-30 With the third-largest population in the world, and the world coming to its cities, the United States is indeed a vast mission field. These missionaries work in some of the urban centers of the United States to coordinate mission work and train future leaders.

Daily Prayers: Sunday: For Rev. Richard Schlak, who is the director of the Lutheran Hispanic Missionary Institute in El Paso, Texas. Pray for the institute, which provides training for Spanish-speaking church planters in the United States and other countries.
Monday: For Rev. Tesfai Tesema, who serves in San Jose, Calif., through South Bay Mosaic Minstries. As a mission developer, he is planting a multi-ethnic congregation among first- and secondgeneration immigrants in the area—one that crosses ethnic, racial, and cultural boundaries.
Tuesday: For Rev. Stephen Wiggins, who serves in as an urban mission strategist in the Atlanta, Ga., metro area. Stephen asks, “Pray for a unified outreach effort of all the Lutheran congregations in the metropolitan Atlanta area.”
Wednesday: For Rev. Dr. Yohannes Mengsteab, director of new mission fields for LCMS World Mission’s National Mission Team. Ask the Lord to guide and bless Yohannes as he supervises missionaries serving in urban areas across the country. Thursday: For a network of supporting LCMS individuals and congregations to continue to build up around these urban mission workers—so that many would be actively contributing time, talents, and treasures to their ministries.
Friday: For the revitalization of many urban LCMS congregations— many are already undergoing the revitalization process, so that they may adapt to carrying out ministry in their changing communities. Saturday: For Lutheran schools in urban congregations, which can draw students and their families into a community of faith, as they hear and see the Gospel in these Lutheran schools. www.lcmsworldmission
