O Jesus, King most wonderful! Conqueror renowned! Sweetness most ineffable! In whom all joys are found! When once you visited the heart, then truth begins to shine; then earthly vanities depart; then kindles love divine. O Jesus! Light of all below! Thou font of life and fire! Surpassing all the joys we know, and all we can desire. May every heart confess Your name, and ever adore You; and seeking You, itself inflame to seek You more and more. May our tongues for ever bless You; may we love You alone; and ever in our lives express the image of Thine own. Amen. From the Roman Breviary

Act of Dedication of the Human Race to Jesus Christ the King Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before you. We are yours, and yours we wish to be; but to be more surely united with you, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known you; many, too, despising your precepts, have rejected you. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to your Sacred Heart. Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken you, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned you; grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger. Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and the unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd. Grant, O Lord, to your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give tranquility of order to all nations; make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor for ever. Amen.

Thanksgiving Prayer Father in Heaven, Creator of all and source of all goodness and love, please look kindly upon us and receive our heartfelt gratitude in this time of giving thanks. Thank you for all the graces and blessings you have bestowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious heritage. Our food and shelter, our health, the love we have for one another, our family and friends.
In 1975 when Father Frederick Golden became ill, Father John Ryan was appointed administrator and then was named Christ the King’s fourth pastor in 1976. During that time of transition, Robert Schoenstene came to serve as a deacon while studying for the priesthood and was ordained in 1975. Father Bob celebrated his First Mass at Christ the King and afterwards, more than 1,200 parishioners came to a pot-luck to celebrate the occasion.
Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity, please grant us continued grace and blessing throughout the coming year. This we ask in the Name of Jesus, Your Son and our Brother. Amen.
Join us for Thanksgiving Day Mass 9:00am in Church All are asked to bring non-perishable goods up to the altar at the Presentation for our St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry

Flu Season During the cold and flu season, parishioners are welcome to give a friendly nod instead of a handshake if they prefer. Please try to be sensitive to the choices of your neighbor during the sign of peace. Also, taking from the chalice is an option - but not a requirement. When we receive the host, it is the whole and entire Christ received. Receiving from the cup is referred to as a fuller symbol of the communion we share in Christ, but not necessary for full communion.

Water for Life 2009-10 A Parish Service Project sponsored by CCW At its October meeting, the Council of Catholic Women began a project to help fund the Water for Life project that will benefit women and children in poor countries. The program was suggested by the National Council of Catholic Women working with the Catholic Relief Services. CRS is the official overseas relief and development agency of the US Catholic Community. Water for Life was established in 1978 to make safe, clean water available to women and their families. In the developing world, women often bear the burden of traveling long distances every day to provide water for their family’s cooking and washing needs. Think about how blessed we are with an abundant supply of water for our use. A challenge for the women of the CCW is donate a dime for every time they turn on the tap and use fresh water on a single day, rather than having to walk to a well. Watch for more information on this project and suggested ways that you can help.

What is Manna? Manna is a tuition reimbursement/fundraiser program. This year-round fundraiser provides over 200 local and nationwide grocery, retail, restaurants, gas stations and specialty gift cards/certificates for order through Christ the King Parish. The Gift certificates or debit cards purchased through Manna are worth their face value. The vendors listed have agreed to donate a percentage to the parish. Each vendor has his own set amount. This money can be used to help offset tuition or to help pay down the parish debt. We cannot give you the money in form of cash. Fundraising: The vendors each have a percentage next to their name. Orders are due Monday at 9:00 a.m. Orders are filled and are ready by Tuesday. Make checks payable to CTK Manna. Manna can be used to pay Kohl's credit card bill. Statement from the Diocese of Joliet November, 2009 Strategic Study of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Joliet underway The Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Joliet is undertaking a long term strategic study, aided by the Meitler Consulting Team, regarding Catholic schools in the diocese. The two-year study will be completed in the spring of 2010. Up to this point, information and input have been gathered from a variety of sources, including pastors, principals, school board members and lay people throughout the entire diocese. As part of the process, the Catholic Schools Office has conducted Community Engagement Surveys providing opportunity to anyone who wished to give input regarding Catholic Schools in the diocese. The results of these surveys will help the office better understand enrollment as well as measure attitudes and support toward Catholic education across the diocese. The data will help diocesan school leaders continue to develop strong Catholic schools and market them effectively. When all of the information gathered during the strategic study is available, it will be assessed and evaluated. At the appropriate time in the planning process, decisions regarding Catholic schools in the Diocese of Joliet will be made. Bishop Peter Sartain wishes to convey that no decisions have been made regarding the possibility of any school closings or consolidations at this time. Data continues to be processed and information shared with Catholic School communities. Doug Delaney Executive Assistant to Bishop J. Health care reform: a stewardship perspective The Gospel of St. Luke presents Jesus healing ten lepers, of whom only one, a Samaritan and therefore a foreigner, returned to thank him. The Lord said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well." (Luke 17:19 quoted by Pope Benedict XVI during his Angelus meditation October 14, 2007) Life is a gift from God. Good health is the physical expression of that gift. In the Gospel, Jesus connects wellness (or wholeness) with faith. He teaches us - sometimes dramatically - that physical health and spiritual health are interrelated. Pope Benedict XVI reminds us that there are two levels of healing. First, there is physical healing, which concerns the proper functioning of the body and all its various systems. Secondly, there is the much-needed healing of the mind and heart (or soul), which concerns the whole person. Another term for this second, more profound, level of healing is salvation. The healing power of Jesus brings salvation, as well as physical health, because he touches our hearts and revives our souls. "Rise and go your way; your faith has saved you," the Lord says to the grateful leper and to us. In this familiar Gospel story, only one of the ten lepers (a foreigner) returned to say thank you. "Those who, like the healed Samaritan, know how to say thank you," the Holy Father says, "show that they do not consider everything as their due but as a gift that comes ultimately from God, even when it arrives through men and women or through nature." Gratitude is the gateway to healing. It opens our hearts to the recognition that everything is a gift. And, as the pope says, "What a treasure is hidden in two small words: thank you!" What has this to do with health care reform? Everything. Health is a gift, but health care is a responsibility. As Christian stewards, we are called to say thank you for God's gift of life by accepting responsibility for the health and human dignity of all our sisters and brothers. We are called to share generously with others, especially the poor and the sick, out of gratitude to God. And the Lord tells us, quite forcefully, that what we do to assist the poor and the sick, the hungry and the homeless, and all who are in emotional or spiritual need, we do to him, for him and with him. With this in mind, the Catholic bishops of the United States have given us the following guidelines for health care reform that is consistent with Catholic social teaching:
• • •
No health care reform legislation or policy will be truly effective unless it deals with the whole person in all his or her human dignity. That is why access to quality health care must be truly universal, and not selective, and why it must respect life wholly and completely from the moment of conception to the experience of natural death. No health care legislation or policy will succeed in transforming our current broken system unless it provides for the needs of the poor and of legal immigrants (the lepers and Samaritans of our day). No reform measures will provide for the common good and the diversity of our society unless they provide for the freedom of conscience of health care workers (allowing them to say "no" to immoral or unethical procedures without impunity). No private or public options for insuring health care coverage # Registered Families 1380 can succeed in the long run unless costs are controlled and Account Amount # shared equitably.
Stewardship of Treasure November 8

White Envelopes Health care reform is a stewardship issue. It challenges us to take care of the gifts of life and health; to share the costly burden of care especially on behalf of the poor; and to manage wisely and well the resources available to us through medical and health care personnel, through private insurers and government agencies, and through hospitals and other organizations dedicated to the healing arts.

Leaving a Legacy A young man was surprised to find his sick and elderly grandfather planting a small peach tree in his backyard. When the young man asked his grandfather why he was planting the tree, the old man replied, “Son, all my life I have eaten the fruit from trees that other people have planted. I figure I have an obligation to make sure there is some fruit around for others to enjoy.”
Four Ways to Leave a Legacy Did you know there are four easy ways for you to remember you parish in your will? 1. A specific Bequest – you can designate a certain amount of cash or specific assets to the parish. 2. A Residual Bequest – you can plan for the parish to receive all or a portion of your estate after other specific bequests have been distributed. 3. A Percentage Bequest – You can designate a certain percentage of the estate to go to the parish. 4. A Contingent Bequest – You can make the parish the recipient of a bequest if others named in your will are not living at the time of your death. No matter how you decide to remember your parish, a gift from your will accomplishes several key benefits. • It sends a strong message to your heirs that the Church played an important role in your life. • It guarantees that your generosity to the Church will be continued even after you are gone. • It provides important assistance to our parish. • It may even provide tax benefits to your heirs. Talk to your lawyer or financial counselor today about the best way for you to remember your parish in your will.

Deadline for Ten Commandment Brick Order The deadline for ordering bricks around the Ten Commandment Monument is December 31, 2009, not in March. We are planning to install the bricks in March weather permitting in time for Easter. Please place your order as soon as you can. It takes several weeks for the order to be processed by the brick engraver. Consider giving a brick as a gift to honor and commemorate your loved ones this season. The proceeds from the sale of the bricks will also help Christ the King meet its financial obligations.
Consider a Stock or Security Donation to Christ the King Church Direct gifts of stocks, mutual funds and other assets are simple for parishioners to make and can be very beneficial gifts for both the parish and the parishioner. Parishioner can designate a stock donation as an immediate gift OR use the donation to establish a life-benefit gift such as a Charitable Gift Annuity or a Remainder Trust. Donating appreciated securities to your parish can produce a tax- advantaged charitable deduction for the parishioner. Most securities donated to parishes are either common stocks or mutual funds. For more information please contact the finance council or Fr. Peter Jarosz. Thank you for the many ways you already share your treasure with the parish. Finance Council
