ENCONTRAR O PAR Goal To recognise and respond to phrases in Portuguese. This activity can also be used as a means to mix up students in class and create new pairs. The language required for the interaction can be on any topic. Learning outcome Students will be able to:

Skills used * Listening * Speaking

* greet Bom dia / Boa tarde/ Olá / * bid farewell Adeus/ Até logo/ Tchau * respond to greetings and introductions O meu nome é …/ Chamo-me .../ E tu?/ E você?/ Como está?/ Bem, obrigado(a)/ Muito prazer. * confirm Sim, é o meu par/ Está correcto/ Não é o meu par/ Não está correcto. Procedures Pairs The aim is for students to locate their partners by introducing themselves in Portuguese. The matched names are well-known pairs, such as Pooh and Tigger, the Beauty and the Beast, etc. Steps 1. Students are allocated one name from a pair of names (without hearing who has the other name in the pair). (TIP: laminate name cards for frequent use). 2. Students go around the room greeting the other students in Portuguese and asking their name. 3. The first matching pair to find each other and sit down is the winner, or as each pair is formed students sit down and start a follow up activity. Further learning (follow up) * Students engage a partner in extended conversation by asking how they are, how to spell their name, and other personal information appropriate to the learning intention. * Students could introduce the other member/s of their pair or group to the class by using “Ele chama-se ...” (His name is...) or “Ela chama-se ...” (Her name is...), etc.
