Appandai Raj TAMIL OR SANSKRIT..??? Are... the..... Tamil words... like... arasan(king)... and ...maanavan(students)....loanwords from sanskrit..?? SANSKRIT Raaja:--Raasa--Araasa--Arasan TAMIL SANSKRIT MaanNavaka:--MaaNavan TAMIL Am I right..?? 4 Apr (6 days ago)

Kar িিk Raja is Sanskrit. It has cognates in other branches of IE (words like Regnal for instance). Don't know about Manavan.

6 Apr (4 days ago) Ramakrishnan Yes arasan and mANavan are loanwords. In Tamil, mAN- has other meanings though not related to mANava. 6 Apr (4 days ago) vinoth arasan derived from the word aryan in tamil ya sometimes turns to sa the root word for aryan is ar which means respectable rajan or rasan is the colloqial form of arasan 6 Apr (4 days ago) vinoth arasan archan aryan rayan in telegu royal in english 6 Apr (4 days ago) vinoth if anyone find common words between tamil and sanskrit , they simply come to conclusion that tamil got from sanskrit without analysing it 7 Apr (3 days ago) P♥van R☆ddy 【ツ】 @ABOVE

I ALSO BELONG TO DRAVIDIANS( TELUGU) U GAVE AN EXAMPLE ABOUT THE WORD RASAN.. ACTUALLY YOU CAN FIND MANY SIMILAR WORDS BETWEEN TAMIL AND SANSKRIT BECAUSE, IN THE PAST THEYACTUALLY SHARED FEW WORDS. BUT MORE THAN TAMIL, THOSE WORDS ARE USED A LOT IN TELUGU.. THEY SAY MORE THAN 60 % OF TELUGU HAS DIRECT SANSKRIT WORDS. TRYING TO PROVE TAMIL OR SANSKRIT IS LIKE AN ENDLESS FIGHT.. 7 Apr (3 days ago) vinoth @above friend if you find the root words and their perfect meanings properly in tamil then how can u say those words were from samskrit eg. the indo-eurpean scholars when trying to find the entomology the word "arya" they pointout the root word as "aer" in latin that means ploughing instrument. they couldnt even find the root in sanskrit itself but the root word for arya is "ar" which tamil uses clearly at the end of the words to designate the respectability eg. avan(he) - avar(the same "he" but to point out the elders or scholars in a respectable manner) not only that the word "aer" also can be seen in tamil as ploughing instrument 7 Apr (3 days ago) vinoth tamil is not well researched by many scholars that is the problem today. 7 Apr (3 days ago) vinoth ya sometimes turns to cha this rule even you can see between dravidian languages eg ayyan(father in tamil) -- acchan (father in malayalam) many samskrit words left the first vowel constant based sounds from the respective tamil words and use it eg. uruvam----> rupam(shape) but the root word is uru means shape in tamil now uru (shape) + andai(egg) --- urandai (round like shape) -----> raundai --> round in english please i want the linguistic scholars to reasearch further tamil showing 11-20 of 23

రవ వరర In old Skt (?), the word Rajni (queeen) should be as Rajini (Rajan+i) as which is available in sindhi as rajini. In latin also it is Regina and not regna. రవ వరర In the following cases, the meaning of king for the word Raja/irasa is absent. It means only big, long, greatness. Raja Gopuram (not King's gopura but big gopura as other gopura's are smaller in size) Raja Nadai (not king's walk but longs steps by men as against Anna Nadai (women)) Raja yogam ( big yogam and not king's yogam) Raja pilavai (not king's wound but big wound) Raja Paarvai (not king's vision but deep vision) Raja Nagam (not king's cobra but big snake, as Adhishesha alone king of All Snakes in Hindu Mythology). రవ వరర @ Ramki <> The words Manavan, Manavi, Manakkan, Manakki are tamil words amd are derived from the Tamil root ul (to read, learn, meditate)-

School girl; பளளிககடததப படககஞ சிறமி. Mod. In Tamil the word Manavakam means Learning and in Skt it is not learning but scholar. The word Manavakam is used only in Tamil and not in any other languages. In Telugu the word Manavaka means not student but young boy. "माणवकः māṇavakḥ माणवकः 1 A youth, boy, lad, youngster (oft. used contemptuously). -2 A little man, dwarf; manikin; मायामाणवकं हिरम् Bhāg.8.18.24. -3 A silly fellow. -4 A scholar, religious student. -5 A pearl-necklace of sixteen (or twenty or fortyeight) strings; गीवादिुैवावदश ु ोिििािि पसािधिा माणवकेन सेयम् N.7.66. -कम् A kind of metre. In Skt, the female student meaning for Manavika is absent but there it means young girl only. माणिवका māṇavikā माणिवका A young girl, damsel. మణవకమ [ māṇavakamu ] māṇavakamu. n. A necklace of twenty strings. ఇరవదపటల గలహరమ. మణవకడ māṇavakuḍu. n. A child, boy, lad, బలడ.

Hence the student meaning is derived from the Tamil word only. Except in Tamil all other Indian languages including Skt use the words Vidyarthi, Vidyarthini for students. 9 Apr delete

రవ వరర @ Ramki It is easy to claim Tamil words as Skt derived words, whether it is right or wrong. But it is tantalus hard to prove the Tamil words as Skt words.
