College Road Phone: 704-458-4254 Phone: 267-716-5244 E-Mail: E-Mail: [email protected] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------On-Campus Population: 3,100 Chapter Size: 31 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Description of Contribution: Marissa is consistently a dedicated RA, but she really stood out in the month of March to be able to balance her RA job, while planning one of the largest scale programs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) - the campus-wide dance competition called “Hawk it Out.” Even under the stress and pressure of planning “Hawk it Out” for the 27th of March, she still made time for her freshmen residents. A great opportunity she offered to her students was the option to be included on the program committee. In addition, Marissa invited her residents, both past and present, to play on her intramural basketball teams along with her and her friends. She also never leaves the dining hall without acknowledging her residents and introducing them to whomever she is eating with. Marissa has also been busy planning a large-scale beach sweep for the Surfrider Foundation, another organization in which she holds a leadership position. Marissa’s top priority is clearly her role as an RA though, as she will miss or leave any other meeting early for staff meetings or to pick up the RA pager. Marissa has the potential to win RA of the month for any month of the year, but her commitment to her residents even while being the founder and head of such a large program that was put on this month that truly makes her deserving of an OTM for March.
