Drill 1: catching warm-up In pairs throwing the ball and catching it between the two of you. 1. Track 2. Reach 3. Give L = in pairs E = tennis ball, cricket ball or bean bag S = Create a grid 20mx20m T = No longer than 10mins • Stage 1 drill •

Drill 2: snowball tag warm-up One tagger runs around throwing a bean bag at other students in the attempt to get them it as well. • If tagged by a bean bag that student needs to collect a bean bag and become a tagger as well. 1. Step 2. Aim 3. Throw L = 1 tagger (to begin with) the rest are running away from the tagger E = x16 beanbags S = Create a grid 10mx10m T = No longer than 10mins • Stage 1 drill •

Drill 4: Bowling/wicket keeping In partners again standing opposite each other with a cone in the middle. Bowling the ball to each other whilst trying to hit the cone in the middle. Merge two pairs to create a group of four. Place two wickets approximately 7 metres apart to start Each person in the group has a specific role (see diagram) Blue- throws over-arm at a set of wickets Yellow- gathers the ball with WK gloves and lobs the ball to slip fielder in grey Grey- throws at the opposite stumps with blue backing up Red- makes decision on whether to run or stay (Stage 3) Incorporate a scoring system to increase intensity and effort Rotate roles evenly. Step Point Swing

L = In pairs E = x1 ball, x1 cone S = Create a grid 15mx30m T = No longer than 20mins • Begins as a stage 1 drill then moves to aspects of a stage 2 drill Drill 5: Bowling • In partners again standing opposite each other with a cone in the middle. • Bowling the ball to each other whilst trying to hit the cone in the middle. • Introduce scoring: 1 point for hitting the stumps, 4 points for hitting one stump over, 6 points for hitting the whole wicket over. 1. Step 2. Point 3. Swing L = In pairs E = x1 ball, x1 cone S = Create a grid 15mx30m T = No longer than 15mins • Stage 2 drill – due to adding scoring Drill 6: End game • Split class into two teams. Using underarm throw to move the ball down the field between team mates. • To score you throw the ball at the wickets. 1 set of wicket either end of the field. 1. Track 2. Reach 3. Give L = Divide class into 2 teams E = x1 ball, x2 wickets, x4 cones S = Create a grid 15mx15m T = No longer than 15mins • Stage 2 drill – due to the game like scenario

If a player gets tagged they then become a catcher.

L = 2 player begin as the catchers, the rest line up along the line. E = x4 cones to mark out the playing area. S = 20mx30m T = No longer than 10mins • Stage 1 drill Drill 2: Front foot Drive • In pairs trying to hit the ball of the tee into the marked out area. 1. Step 2. Swing 3. Drive L = in pairs (8 pairs), one starts batting, the other acts as the wicket keeper, switch roles after one over. E = x1 bat/group (x8), x1 batting tee/group (x8), 1x ball/group (x8) S = Depending on your class size (20mx30m) T = No longer than 15mins • Stage 1 drill, hitting the ball of the cone • Stage 2 drill, add in target and accuracy (hitting between the cones) Drill 3: Back Foot Pull • In pairs trying to hit the ball of the tee into the marked out area. 1. Shift (lean onto back foot) 2. Lift (bat on a horizontal angle) 3. Pull (swing) L = in pairs (8 pairs), one starts batting, the other acts as the wicket keeper, switch roles after one over. E = x1 bat/group (x8), x1 batting tee/group (x8), 1x ball/group (x8) S = Depending on your class size (20mx30m) T = No longer than 15mins • Stage 1 drill, hitting off the tee into space • Stage 2 drill, addition of a point system • Stage 3 drill, infield and outfield and points system

Drive L = Groups of 6, 1 wicket keeper, 1 bowler, 1 batter, 3 fielders E = x1 bat/group, 1x ball/group, x2 cones/group to set up the ‘v’ shape S = groups spread around in a circle formation T = No longer than 15mins • Stage 3 drill, not a modified game as the bowler is giving the batter a ‘nice’ feed i.e. not trying to get the batter out. Drill 5: Partner cricket Player are in pairs versing the other pairs Same set up as a normal game of cricket

• • L = in pairs (4 pairs play together) bowlers/wicket keeper, batters, infield, outfield E = x1 bat/group, 1x ball/group S = Set up grids 40mx40m T = No longer than 15mins • Stage 4 drill, bowler not on ‘fielders’ team so it isn’t a cooperative feed to the batter.

Track 2. Reach 3. Give L = in pairs then 2 pairs join to make a group of 4 E = x2 balls/pair S = groups spread out within the grid of 30mx30m T = No longer than 10mins • Stage 2 drill, due to adding a scoring system.

Drill 2: Pass ball Split class into 2 teams working together using underarm throw to pass the ball down the field.

To score you must underarm throw the ball at the wickets placed at the end of each end. • Must make 3 passes before you are allowed to score. 1. Step 2. Aim 3. Swing L = Split class into 2 groups E = x1 ball, x2 wickets, x8 cones (mark out the no go zone before the wickets) S = 20mx30m T = No longer than 15mins • Stage 2 drill, due to adding a scoring system. •
