Tutorial Notes Tutorial 3 Review of styles for basketball Individual Practice - Name skill and style – jump shot - Quality not quantity - Organise LEST - Demonstrate – where it fits into the game if possible - Controlled, confident, concentrate on target – key teaching points for shooting - Jump shot – shooting hand underneath, other hand on side, bring ball down, shoot from nose, jump, release ball at height of jump - Teacher role – check for understanding - Variation – increase height, further away, movement before shot, throw off wall - Can't suggest variations to whole group as it changes the style - Introducing challenges – style changes, therefore communication with student changes and questions change - Impact – individual feedback, individual differentiation - Closure – subject matter and behaviour objectives Reciprocal - In 4s, a doer, observer, collector and feeder - Follow same steps - Focus on the observer - Visual closure – shot example -
PRODUCTION CLUSTER Still need to let them know what they are doing, but don’t tell style or what you want them to achieve Tactics and strategies
Convergent Discovery - 4v4 game - In set conditions, ability to answer question appropriately - Focus on conditions to elicit the response they want to get - Play for a bit first and get students to reflect on what they did when someone takes the shot – as the defender reflect on your movement/positioning - Bring class back and discuss - Converge on decision – turn and face target - Get them to place first, don’t ask for reflection straight up Guided discovery - Individually ask students questions - Teacher to watch play and ask students questions regarding positioning/movement when the shot was taken (specific focus) - Individually question either person or group - Turn, block, rebound - Set task and restrictions – they allow you to achieve what you want to achieve - Can move to individual practice after this style – no set order or hierarchy - Passing through gates, then move to next cone – have to have communication
