18th Senate Meeting Minutes: October 24th, 2008

1. Called to Order – 9:15 am 2. Roll Call – Everyone present 3. No additions or corrections

President Sterr’s Report – SGC Meeting in Tri Cities $9000 to go towards student benefit from the Bookie Board Rec Center Consulting Meeting Student Focus Groups 10/23 Survey to be given out in a couple of weeks by 600 people Spoke with Director of Library about quiet hours Wanting a student to be on the Academic Integrity Board Going to Pullman to discuss next lobbying session in Olympia Next meeting on November 8th 6b. Vice President Wooster’s Report – Working on resources list for students on campus with Women’s Resource Committee Asked committee chairs to take minutes and provide agendas for each meeting Solving concerns that were brought up at One on One meetings Discussing legislative agenda Hate crimes occurred at WSU Pullman and wants to address the issue 6c. 1) Eric Davidson’s Report – 10/16 Movie Night – 40 people in attendance 10/23 Pumpkin Carving Night with families – 100 people Halloween Cosmic Bowling – October 30th Scary movies to be played at 3pm+ 7pm and continuously looped on small screens Performer/Band to replace Spring Dance 2) Nicole Mousleh’s report – Promoting events on campus Organization Leadership Training coming up Student Rec. Center Survey Needs to be taken by 20% off students, prizes and flyers to promote it 3) Michael Hatch’s report – Moved shared drive to Eric’s computer temporarily Fixing Nicole’s computer Gave Sommer access to the shared drive 4) Sommer Knight’s report – Helped put on the Presidential Debate Party Working with SGC for legislative agenda Using Washington Student Lobby as a resource 5) Blake Hunter’s report –

Leadership training for students on Nov. 8th 9am – 2pm with speakers Students sign up in OSI and flyers will be put up Club forum on 10/27th 12-1pm 6) Jared Pengra’s report Gingerbread Night in December 10/30 Halloween Cosmic Bowling Night: 9:30pm - Midnight Working on Rocky Horror Night and Brew Bus Tour Activities Board – working on a product fair, Christmas orchestra, board game night, and volunteer fair 7. Committee reports External Affairs – cold call contacts for volunteer fair More tutoring resources on campus Camera surveillance for break-ins Michael to put a carpool link on website Advertise that computer labs are open earlier Civic engagement – academic affairs Programming – Senator Myers is now Committee Chair Senator Kleinschmidt is now Vice Chair Did not meet this week but will meet during the week of 10/27 – 10/31 Finance - $3518.24 per meeting Money given to each club will now be kept under a running tally Total budget Rules and Regulations – wrote up By-Law Amendments 18.002, 18.003 Budget Committee hasn’t met yet. Old Business 8. Confirmation of Judicial Board Member – Nik Vaughn Confirmed by unanimous vote 9. Bill 18.005 Senator Chu moved to table. Senator Morgan seconded. Senators need to contact Regina about funding request. New Business 10. Bill 18.006 Questions: How is one part of the club? They have attended at least one meeting How many people are in the Law Club? 20 Is the event open to all students? Yes in the Firstenburg Student Commons Senator Brown: Amend “Dr,” to “Dr.” Harman seconded. Bill amended. Senator Aday moved to call to question. Senator Morgan seconded. Bill passed: Brown, Myers, Sanders – nay, Kleinschmidt - abstain 11. Bill 18.007 Questions: What are the themes are for each event? Poetry Jam, Bands, Pastry Decorating, Love Fest, Bingo Night, and Poker Night What was the turnout at Poker Night? Less than expected

How does the amount of money for each event compare to last year? Less than last year Is there flexibility on funds for each event? Obligated to put on 8 events Director Hunter: Nick Ferderer has shown leadership and budgeting skills which are both valuable skills when being a student leader. Vice President Wooster: Is this part of your job description as an Ambassador? Who is responsible if an event is not put on? No and he would be responsible for the lack of the event. Are these events part of the Ambassador Program? No but wants to promote leadership within the program and integrate with students Senator Brown: Amend bill to $250 for Get to Know Ya Tuesdays on 11/18 Senator Chu seconded. Bill amended. Senator Kleinschmidt moved to call to question. Senator Chu seconded. Bill passed. Senator Aday excused at 10:40am 12. Bill 18.008 Senator Chu moved to amend email address from “diamond.stacy” to diamond.stacey Harman seconded. Bill amended. Senator Cruz moved to amend date of event from “29 Jan 29” to “Thursday Jan 29” Myers seconded. Bill amended. Questions: Did you check prices for airfare? Yes but they frequently fluctuating. What is the per diem? Food How did you get to that price? WSU Standards What room is the event taking place? Not sure at this time Estimated number of people to attend? 40 to 60 people How would you advertise? Classes, myWSU, flyers, and Salmon Creek Journal Director Hunter: Room cannot be determined until 10 days after a semester has started. Senator Chu moved to amend bill to state “History Club will explore leadership opportunities by including a student speaker at the event.” Senator Harman seconded. Bill amended. Senator Myers moved to amend airfare from “$500” to “$400.” Chu seconded. Bill amended. Senator Cruz moved to amend total to “$522.50.” Brown seconded. Bill amended. Senator Brown called to question. Senator Chu seconded. Bill passed. 13. Bill 18.009 Questions: Are there student leadership opportunities? Yes Did you get money from other resources? Materials and construction from other resources What is “vehicle mileage” for? Travel to the event Will the jerseys state WSUV? No they will be WSU jerseys

McIlvoy: There is a class component to this bill but the competition is outside of class and students can volunteer to assist with the project. Senator Cruz called to question. Senator Atkinson seconded. Bill passed. 14. Bill 18.010 Senator Chu motioned to commit bill to Programming Committee. Senator Atkinson seconded. Motion passed. McIlvoy: Suggested to talk to Neil in the Student 15. By-Law Amendment 18.002 Senator Brown motioned to amend “of” to “to.” Senator Harman seconded. Amendment corrected. Senator Morgan called to question. Senator Brown seconded. Amendment amended. 16. By-Law Amendment 18.003 Senator Brown called to question. Senator Morgan seconded. Amendment amended. 17. By-Law Amendment 18.004 Senator Kleinschmidt called to question. Senator Atkinson seconded. Amendment amended. For the Good of the Order Camera surveillance needed for parking lots. Three recent break-ins. Senator Brown motioned to create resolution. Senator Chu motioned to commit to External Affairs Committee. Harman seconded. Motion passed. Risers needed for the choir. Where can they be stored? Stage to double as risers? Proposal to not write bill but to talk with Michelle McIlvoy. Social Environmental Justice Center Film Festival – Expecting 150 people each day at minimum. Event to be at Kiggins Theater because of limited access without buses to come to campus. There are unexpected costs but full and entire budget on handout and sponsor to speak with other local film festival directors. Senate suggested fundraising before putting in another funding request and to partner with the Social Environment Justice Club or other clubs. McIlvoy: “Have You Been Couged” is a fundraiser for the Student Leadership Recognition Scholarship. $40 per sign thru Development and wants us to spread the word. Pac 10 Challenge - Log your fitness hours and win prizes. Director Blake: Suggested putting Senate bills on the projector in order for guests can understand and read each bill. Adjourned at 11:44 am
