18th Senate Meeting Minutes: October 10th, 2008

1. Called to Order – 9:05 am 2. Roll Call – Kleinschmidt absent 3. Additions – #9 By-Law Amendment 18.001 Corrections – The numbers move accordingly, #10 – Bill 18.002, #11 18.003, etc.

4. Approval of Agenda - approved 5. Approval of Minutes - approved 6a. President Sterr’s Report – To travel with Executive Staff to SGC in Tri Cities Will be present at 2 Washington Student Lobby Meetings (10/25, 11/8) Working on upcoming Pullman Trip Attended President Floyd’s Reception at OMSI with Nick F. and Nicole M. Changed a computer lab’s hours to now be open at 7:30am 6b. Vice President Wooster’s Report – Had One on Ones with Senators Worked on requests and writing bills Became the Chair for the Women’s Resource Committee Addressed the issues of the hours of the computer labs and graduate insurance Met with Committee Chairs of each senate committee Announced that the name badges came in for Senators and Executive Staff 6c. 1) Eric Davidson’s Report – Pullman Trip slots filled up quickly October 16th Movie Night – Pineapple Express October 23rd Pumpkin Carving Haunted Corn Maze and Bonfire Scary movies to be played October 27th – 29th Halloween Bowling Night with costume contest 2) Nicole Mousleh’s report – Worked on flyers and ads Working on getting donations from local businesses to use at events Contact Nicole with personal contacts for businesses 3) Michael Hatch’s report – Working on putting up a club section on the ASWSUV website Getting cables in order to let students play video games in FSC Put together a survey on VIT’s services Senators’ bios and pictures need to be on website by October 15th 4) Sommer Knight’s report – Organizing Presidential Debate Party Studying legislature process in order to prepare for upcoming session In contact with Director of Washington Student Lobby 5) Blake Hunter’s report – Orientations have occurred with all clubs except 2

WSUV has 40 active clubs Working with Michael on a section for clubs on website Forums will be occurring soon 6) Jared Pengra’s report Brainstorming new ways to advertisement events on campus 1st Activities Board meeting on October 10th Will email Senate with list of members of Activities Board 7. Committee reports External Affairs – Working on getting a cold vending machine in FSC Getting new printers for ASWSUV, banners for WSUV campus Putting together a Volunteer Fair Programming – Working on the trophy case for FSC Surveyed students for best size of lockers and looking into the cost Working w/External Affairs on vending machine Finance – The amount of money the Senate can spend each meeting is $3,326.84 Rules and Regulations – Wrote up By-Law Amendment 18.001 Will cover 8 pages of ASWUV By-Laws each meeting Budget – Does not need to meet until end of school year Old Business 8. Attended Chancellor’s Advisory Board meeting, English Dept.’s Open House, and the External Affairs Committee Meeting Networked with YWCA Tabling starts this week for Senators Proposed having a yearly class schedule instead of by semester 9. Bill 18.003. Nick Ferderer spoke on the behalf of the bill. Get to Know Ya Tuesdays – Poker Night to be on Oct. 21 from 3-5pm Estimated 7-90 people, every 15 minute a prize to be given out To be advertised on ASWSUV Website, VanCougar, and word of mouth Senator Aday moved to call to question, Senator Morgan seconded. Bill passed. New Business 10. By-Law Amendment 18.001 – ASWSUV By-Laws Amendment passed. 11. Bill 18.002 – T-shirts for the Senate Amendment made by Senator Brown to change the allocation of $100 to $200 Bill passed. 12. Bill 18.004 – First Time Home Buyer Presentation Questions: Estimated amount of people to attend? 30-50 people Who’s presenting? Unitus Mortgage What decorations are you buying? Tablecloths What kind of advertisements? A-frames, flyers, blog Where will it occur? Admin Building 130

Any kind of stipend to be given to the presenter? No Suggested renting tablecloths from Campus’ Dining Services

Senator Brown motioned to amend Section 2 to state “Tablecloth rental” Senator Chu seconded. Amendment passed. Bill passed. 13. Bill 18.005 - Applying to Graduate School Seminar All campus event and Psych dept. had a similar event held last school year Bill tabled. Bill 18.006 - Needs another Senator to co-sponsor. Bill tabled. 14. Judicial Board position appointed to Rob Hildebrant 15. Judicial Board position to appoint Nik Vaughn tabled Announcements Center for Social and Environmental Justice funding request to be committed to the External Affairs committee Clarification of the memo about political activity and state policy Reminder to tell students to not print their homework off of OSI printers because they are resources from the state A container for “Pennies for Peace”, a charity based off of “3 Cups of Tea” On page 12 of the By-Laws are the hours and attendance that have to be fulfilled by every Senator Reminder that there is tabling this week. Bring stress balls, flyers, tri-fold board, and wear name badges Suspension of Robert’s Rules of Order to discuss funding to clubs and how we address funding on a case by case basis and overall Adjourned at 10:50 am
