Residence Hall Association Minutes – April 28th, 2008 I. II.

Introduction i. Meeting called to order at 11:47 A.M. ii. Approved Minutes Reports i. President a. Thanks for voting Stanley Gawlik as president b. Future RHA Recruitment – Create TV commercials to play on the TVs in the campus center to publicize RHA – Talk to incoming freshman at MiniVersity about RHA ii. Vice President a. Working on creating a compilation of helpful tips on contacting people (campus center, ResLife, GDS, etc) essential to running an event iii. National Communication Coordinator a. Working on ideas for recruiting incoming freshman (talk about RHA on national level i.e. CAACURH, etc.) b. Planning on working with the PRO on advertising techniques iv. Treasurer a. Working on reforming the budget to be more presentable and clear v. Public Relations Officer a. Working on updating the RHA website – new E-Board members (pictures and biographies) vi. Senate vii. Hall Council Representatives a. Redwood b. Cypress – BBQ was postponed due to inclement weather – Planning “End of the Year Bash” to be held indoors (instead of BBQ) c. Laurel d. Oak – “Going Green” Program – lights and vending machines were turned off to preserve energy – Oak provided chicken and biscuits, etc. – Great turnout viii. RA Representatives a. Redwood b. Cypress – Were updated on residence halls closings and procedures c. Laurel – Had last staff meeting about residence halls closings d. Oak ix. Committees

a. BGA b. NRHH – Induction Ceremony will be held May 5th at Faculty Dinning at 9:30 pm Old Business i. New E-Board a. President: Stanley Gawlik b. Vice President: Elizabeth Lee c. NCC in training: Michael Gonzalez d. Treasurer: Patrick McGrail e. Secretary: Grace Lee f. PRO: Chris Ojeda ii. ResLife Certificates were handed out iii. Adora’s Closet – Held the April 27th in the campus center – Will be selling clothes on Wednesday May 30th during common hours (2:30 – 4:00 pm) on the Campus Green or in the Campus Atrium ($5–jeans, $3–shirts) – Proceeds will be donated to National Wildlife Organization and extra clothes will be donated to New Hope Baptist Church – For additional information contact [email protected] New Business i. There will be a new venue for change for the last RHA meeting ii. Air-conditioning in halls – Decided by each Hall Council by voting process because of residents’ complaints – Cannot be turned off/ changed (to heat/ neutral) until next season Open Floor and Services Issues i. Budget – Allocated funds for Matt’s GDS proposal are to be de-allocated due to lack of time to carry out the proposal ($200 back into unallocated budget) ii. Redwood Elevator – Makes loud noises as it approaches and passes the 4th – 6th floors – Slightly shifts down upon entry (perhaps to counterbalance weight) iii. Mice Extermination – Is handled by contractors who are allowed to enter and exit rooms without notice if a extermination request is filed – Should use more humane traps such as snap traps and poison instead of glue iv. GDS – Peter Fishbach needs to be contacted about low quality service on weekends (i.e. only two selections of cereal – needs to be restocked) – Reminder to check expiration dates on food items – Food Committee idea was brought up to correspond with Fishbach about residents’ concerns Kudos and Shout Outs i. New E-Board members ii. Mother Earth iii. Humane mouse killing iv. Jaime, Elizabeth – volunteering at Adora’s Closet v. Karen – being Karen Announcements i. Adora’s Closet – Wednesday April 30th (2:30 – 4:00 pm), buy and donate clothes, donate money ii. Residence Halls close – Thursday May 15th at 12 pm noon iii. Graduation – Saturday May 17th at 8:30 am at Prudential Adjournment at 12:22 P.M.
