Bertitik tolak dari fungsi makanan bagi kehidupan (Soekirman,1967) Abad 20 ilmu gizi maju sangat pesat “the golden age of nutritional science” Di Indonesia istilah “gizi” diperkenalkan I oleh Soejono D Poesponegoro (1952) Thn 1958 Poorwo Sudarmo  guru besar ilmu gizi







Thn 1950 dikenal 4S5S oleh Poerwo Soedarmo Aslinya diciptakan thn 1940 di AS oleh Dep. Pertanian  basic seven, basic five -basic four Thn 1970  slogan menjadi pedoman “dietary guideline for american people”







Thn 1992 sidang internasional gizi WHO dan FAO Di Indonesia thn 1995 menerbitkan Pedoman Umum Gizi Seimbang, disempurnakan thn 2000 Berisi 13 pesan gizi,sesuai dengan perkembangan IPTEK sebaiknya ditinjau kembali setiap 5 thn.
