FirstWord October 24 & 25, 2009

We would like to invite you to be baptized at our Beach Baptism this Sunday, October 25. Please meet in the Fellowship Hallway at 1:00 p.m. Call Linda at x280.

Unwrapping Your Gift As a child and even as an adult, I have always eagerly awaited Christmas morning. I love watching the unwrapping of gifts by others (and my own, of course; I am still human). Our family has a tradition of taking the children’s packages out from under the brightly lit tree and putting them by their chairs. Each person unwraps one at a time while all watch. It takes longer but it adds to the total delight and joyful participation. Yes, even adult kids like it. I am beginning a brief series of messages this week, “Unwrapping Your Gift,” dealing practically and biblically with gifts, talents, and service in the Body. After Tom Rider’s Wednesday study this summer in “Experiencing God,” interest in this subject was overwhelming. During a prayer retreat, I sensed that God has something new to say to us and to do

among us. Though my studies may be reminders to a few, many from other churches have never heard balanced teaching on this important subject. “As each one has received a spiritual gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10). You also have talents, energy, opportunities, and the power of the Spirit to be employed for His glory and the good of others, as well as enjoyed by you. Janet and I have just enjoyed a few days of rest and renewal in Colorado after an extraordinarily busy summer and early fall. We are thrilled to be back. We did enjoy our great God’s creation so awesomely displayed in the mountains and crisp air of Colorado Springs. Just as we awoke each morning to see Pike’s Peak, I want you to awaken to all that God has given to you and wants to do through you for Him. Rip those ribbons, tear that paper, open that box, and regain the wonder.

Guest Reception There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night and the 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning service. Come and meet Dr. Wicker.

Special thanks to all of you who have “committed to connect” to our missionaries through the Great Commission Connection. To date, we have 544 FBCN families who are busy praying, giving, and connecting with missionaries in North America and around the world! QUESTION: “Once my ‘Change the World’ bank is full, what do I do?” ANSWER: There are three designated drop-off locations for your change. 1) Lighthouse Bookstore (during regular operating hours) 2) Media Ministry Counter (during regular operating hours) 3) Fellowship Hallway Depository (available at all times during the week, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and before/after all worship services and events) Once you have brought your change to one of the above locations, simply follow the directions below! IT’S THAT EASY! 1. Use the black marker provided and enter your name and change bank number on the plastic deposit bag label (plastic deposit bags will be provided at each location). 2. Open the change bank from the bottom and deposit the change into the plastic deposit bag. 3. Remove adhesive strip from the back of deposit bag, and close the flap making sure the bag is sealed. 4. Drop the deposit bag into the depository at your selected location. 5. Please keep your bank and continue to collect change for the Great Commission Connection.

Thank you once again for your commitment to THE GREAT COMMISSION CONNECTION!

Operation Christmas Child

I loved packing the Shoe Boxes through the past years with my children. They understood they were shopping for children who lived half-way around the world and began to get a heart of compassion for them. As a result, our son is preparing to serve God through international missions and our youngest daughter has a compassionate heart for orphaned children. Now that they are gone from home, I still get those boxes and pack them every year...you just can’t take the “kid” out of me! What a blessing to be a part of this ministry to touch young lives in the name of Jesus across the world! Janet Wicker

Quarterly Business Meeting

The next Church Quarterly Business Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel. All church members are encouraged to attend.

“If there is no regard for the sanctity of human life before it is born, there will be no regard for the sanctity of human life after it is born.” God created us in our mother’s womb.

“There will never be peace in the world, as long as there is abortion...”

“Even if a mother could forget the child in her womb, I will never forget you.”

Planned Parenthood (at the corner of Creech Rd & Goodlette Rd) is now performing surgical abortions in Naples. Please come and join us anytime during the day as we pray peacefully together to change the hearts of misinformed women and defend life. Every Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Holiday Outreach Banquet Only 3 weeks left to purchase your Banquet tickets!

“…And Still There is Joy” “You have shown me the way of life and You will fill me with the joy of Your presence” Psalm 16:11

Featuring: Anne Wright

Anne Wright is the wife of Bryant Wright, Senior Pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Marietta, Georgia, in north Atlanta. She and Bryant will celebrate 35 years of marriage this year. Raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Anne attended Columbia College and graduated with a BA in Sociology from Augusta State University. She is the mother of three grown sons and three precious grandchildren. Her interests in church include working with preschoolers, leading a mentoring Bible study for young moms, and welcoming people into her home. Anne practices a lifestyle of “Ministry in the Hallways” at her church. Her philosophy as a pastor’s wife is to love God first, love Bryant and her family, and to love the people God puts in her path. It makes for a life of joy! Her message will encourage each woman to “count it all joy” no matter what trials she faces.

Friday, November 13, 2009 6:30 --9:00 p.m. In the Worship Center

Tickets are $15 and will be sold during RefresHer and after weekend services at the Information Desk, next to the Bookstore.

First Baptist Academy Is Looking For Instruments First Baptist Academy music department is looking for gently used instruments for students. Currently all 6th and 7th graders participate in a music ensemble; many of whom participate in band and strings. The cost of renting and purchasing instruments can be challenging for some families. If you have an instrument at home (violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, or tuba) that is not being used, please consider donating it to FBA. It will be put to good use as students train to become the next generation of worship leaders! Questions? Contact Lani Mastrangelo at 597-2233 or [email protected]
