“Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples!” Psalm 96:3

Rev. William R. Kane, D. D.: Faithful Servant With His LORD Rev. Bill Kane served as a faithful servant of our Lord for over 47 years. On September 3, 2008, Rev. Kane passed from this life into the presence of His Lord. Memorial services were held at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Grayson, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ada, and their three children and three grandchildren. Ordained in 1961, Rev. Kane was involved in many diverse ministries He taught Biblical studies, philosophy, math, and physics at many colleges and universities including, Highland, Clearwater, Cohen, Pepperdine, and LA State. In California, he pastored churches in Brea, Fulbert, San Bernardino, and Long Beach. Revealing his heart for missions, Rev. Kane served as a Council member for the PMU Missions Council until the time of his death and supported missionaries from the Independent Board. He was an active officer in the SW Presbytery and treasurer of the BP Synod. Since 1963, Rev. Kane also worked in the area of engineering on the Apollo program, Sprint Missile System, Stealth Bomber, and on other automated systems as well. When his wife, Ada, was asked what Rev. Kane’s burden in ministry was, she said that teaching the Word was his highest concern. His last words not only comforted his family, but can also encourage every Christian. He said, “Find Jesus. That’s where I’ll be.” II Timothy 4:7 captures Rev. Kane’s passion in life. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Rev. Kane will be greatly missed by his BP brethren. His contributions here on earth have been used of the Lord, and he is fondly remembered by many. Following are a few recollections: “Dr. Bill Kane was one of the most humble and knowledgeable men I ever met. The loss of his understanding and insight will be keenly felt…. But praise God that Bill had such a firm grip on the Gospel. His hopes have all been fulfilled now, and our prayers go out to Ada and the children: May they find such rich consolations at the hand of the Lord, as shall sustain them in their loss and encourage them in Bill's gain.” Rev. G. W. Fisher “Bill was one of the truly profound thinkers I have known. I had so many questions to ask him. I needed to hear his perspective on so many issues. I am not ready for the loss of this good friend. But it is enough that God was ready.” Rev. Howard Carlson “I knew Bill Kane from the time I was a high school student. At that time I asked him, “How do we know that the Bible is the Word of God?” His response was to loan to me his well-marked copy of Warfield’s Inspiration and Authority of the Bible. That memory inspired me to ask him to later write reviews of two different books by Warfield for the WRS Journal, which he did. As a tribute to him, you might like to read his two reviews, Warfield, B. B., The Inspiration and Authority of the Bible, Warfield, B. B., Miracles Yesterday and Today,”at the WRS website (http://www.wrs.edu). Dr. John Battle

Columbia BPC Hosts Family Camp Drawing from its early years, the Bible Presbyterian Church in Scappoose, Oregon, hosted a family camp from August 26th - 29th. This was the first camp in almost ten years and a first for many in the church. It was a time of fellowship, learning, and enjoying God’s creation together. The setting was beautiful at rustic Camp Wilkerson, a Columbia county park, about thirty-five minutes from the church. The accommodations varied as some campers brought RVs, others tents, and still some stayed in the small cabins. The camp was well attended by church members, 29 attendees in all. Presbyterian Missionary Union is a non-profit missions agency associated with the Bible Presbyterian Church. Our purpose is to advance the cause of missions that are biblically based and practiced and to stand against any compromise of the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. Ministries, Prayer Requests, and Praises from Bolivia August 25th was the celebration of the second anniversary of the Ladies’ Bible study at the La Paz BPC Church. Twenty-one ladies

attended the special program. Pastor Quisbert spoke about a virtuous woman based on Proverbs 31, where God gives guidelines for how a woman lives. Please pray that the Lord blesses this work. The church is also reaching out to people who are living on the streets, addicted to alcohol and drugs, by taking a plate of food and the gospel to those who are lost. Pastor Quisbert presents Bible lessons and encourages the memorizing of Scriptures and songs. He writes, “Many of these people are touched by the Word of God and come to repentance. Some of them lift their hands requesting [mercy ]of our Lord. It is [impressive] to see what happens when we preach to these people. Please pray for this work.” The Awana ministry continues to be a great blessing. 48 children attended the special spring program. Pastor Quisbert thanks the Lord that the children are memorizing the Word of God and learning to sing praises to our God.

Pastors around Bolivia are meeting to pray for the political situation there. We need to uphold our brethren in prayer during this tense political time. More regular supporters are needed for this work in Bolivia. If you are interested in pledging a monthly support or can offer a one time gift, it will be greatly appreciated and used for this ministry. Please send donations to PMU, marked Quisbert. PRAYER REQUESTS and PRAISES from Pastor Quisbert • For our new members class • For our Conferences 24th (Family), 31st (Reformation) in our sanctuary • Please pray for our Saturday youth meetings at 6:00 pm • Please continue praying for the political situation in Bolivia • 10 persons who were dependent on alcohol have accepted Jesus as their personal Savior • Praise God for the work of Awana. • For the peace in La Paz in the middle of our

Classes are Bright Spot for Mark Baldwin in Cambodia

Columbia Family Camp cont. church is averaging about thirty-five on Sunday morning, including 24 full time attendees and many visitors.) Serving Christ Together was the theme of the camp, developed in four lessons by Pastor G.W. Fisher, from Tacoma, Washington. His wife, Bonnie, also joined us for the week. Pastor Fisher’s messages on the topics were very well received. Message Titles included: “Why Serve Christ TOGETHER” and “Serving Christ in the Home, ...Work, and ...the Neighborhood.” Filled with Bible truth, they very convicting. Pastor Brinegar taught two lessons for the children on similar topics using Bible stories, including “How to Serve Christ” from the story of the twelve spies. The companion song with motions quickly became one of the kids’ favorite songs. Dr Battle, President of Western Reformed Seminary, came to present a lesson on “Being Prepared to Serve Christ in College.” The college environment is a real challenge to our young people today. Dr. Battle presented the dangers and lures of college along with seven suggestions to help young people prepare. Geared toward parents and church leaders, his lesson was very convicting on the role the church needs to play in helping young people during this trying time. Each day held organized game time. Watching both old and young taking part together in the same games was a true joy. One day’s activity included Mrs. Fisher teaching a drawing class. Overall, the experience was a real joy and lots of fun. The work was spread across many hands, and plans are in the works for another outing in 2009. Rev. Steve Brinegar

Mark Baldwin has begun a new phase in his ministry in Cambodia: teaching English in the new Mission Station. With approximately 20 students attending his various classes, Mark is kept busy. He has chosen the book of Mark as text for students to practice their reading. Three teachers have been attending classes. One is curious about Christianity, and another is Buddhist. Mark finds that most of his students are “doubting Buddhists.” What an opportunity he has for witnessing of the grace of God. Please pray for Mark and his ministry. Prayer Requests •
