“Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples!” Psalm 96:3

PMU’s First President Taken Home to Glory: Dr. Thomas Proctor On a crisp, clear day in Nashville, TN, medical doctor and veteran missionary Dr. G. Thomas Proctor was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Procter (Kat) and the five children and their families received many visitors at the viewing. Although Dr. Proctor had been ill for some time, he never ceased to speak of the Lord's comfort and care. He was 84 when the Lord called him home on Monday, February 25, 2008. A dozen Bible Presbyterians were present along with several hundred mourners for the hour long service on February 27. Representatives from the Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions and the Presbyterian Missionary Union attended. Dr. Proctor was an ordained Bible Presbyterian minister, having received his graduate degree from Bob Jones University. The Proctors were medical and teaching missionaries with the Independent Board in Bethlehem, the Holy Land area (in the 60's) and in Mwingi, Kenya (in the 70's). Following years of active missionary work, the Proctors were available to visit and assist missionaries in their work on several occasions. In 1985, Dr. Proctor became the president of the newly formed Presbyterian Missionary Union and continued his interest in missions in many ways, including authoring two books on missionary work. Dr. Proctor held a degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville and a medical degree from the University of Tennessee and served in the U. S. Army in 1942 to 1944,

then for a brief time in the early 50's. He entered the practice of radiology in Maryville, TN, where he helped form a new Bible Presbyterian Church. During the time of the pastorate of Rev. Robert Anderson, the Proctors believed the Lord would have them leave the medical practice and give themselves for missionary service. A favorite hymn of Tom Proctor's was "Ivory Palaces." Here are the words of the final stanza of that hymn, "In garments glorious He will come, to open wide the door; and I shall enter my heav'nly home, to dwell forevermore." The funeral sermon by Rev. Philip Proctor, missionary in Uganda with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, was inspiring and a fine tribute to his father's faith. His text was Job 19:25-27, emphasizing the words of Job, "I know that my redeemer liveth." Dr. Mark Evans conducted the graveside service. The family requests that memorial gifts be given to any favorite missionary. — Dr. Morris McDonald,, President, PMU

Australia Update from Ed Paauwe During January I preached on Sundays and taught a Tuesday evening Bible Study on the Life of Christ. We were able to spend a week in Adelaide for a family reunion. Our son Daniel and his wife came to Australia and we praise the Lord that we were able to have all three children, their spouses, and our grandson together for a time of fellowship and thanking the Lord for His blessings, mercies, and protection. To God be all glory. In January we began the year with a Care Group meeting at the home of one of our

Presbyterian Missionary Union is a non-profit missions agency associated with the Bible Presbyterian Church. Our purpose is to advance the cause of missions that are biblically based and practiced and to stand against any compromise of the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. PMU is directed by a Council of Christian leaders who volunteer their time to guide the ministry. To learn more about missions opportunities through PMU, or about the BPC, please contact us. The Missions Banner is published ten times a year for interested individuals and churches. It seeks to promote the clear stand of the BPC by providing a biblical perspective on issues, fads, and theories in missions and church development. Our Editor is Len Pine, and our Publisher is Morris McDonald.

Rev. Clyde Wayne Field: Faithful Servant Now Home Rev. C. W. Field of Deltona, FL, went home to meet his Savior on December 24, 2007. The Memorial Service was held at Grace Bible Presbyterian Church, Cape Canaveral, FL, with Dr. James Blizzard officiating. Serving as a 1st Lt. in the Army Air Corps during WWII, Rev. Field was a US veteran and, for 1 year, a POW. Known for his patriotism, Rev. Field was involved in conservative political activities. Rev. Field was a Bible Presbyterian minister and faithful preacher and teacher of the Word of God. He graduated from Wheaton College, Faith Theological Seminary, and later received a Master of Theology from Grace Theological Seminary. He also received an honorary Doctor of Theology from Faith Seminary (PA). Bible Presbyterian Churches in Long Beach, CA, and Kalispell, MT, knew him as their pastor. At Highland College, he taught Greek and Hebrew as well as other Bible classes. He also taught at Carver Bible Institute, Shelton College, Faith Seminary, and Teen Missions. He wrote “Outlines of the Bible” and “Greek Word Frequency.” Rev. Field’s influence through his teaching and preaching has been a great blessing to the Church at large and to BPC ministers specifically. We praise God for the testimony of His child. “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” II. Cor. 5:8

GBPC Sends Mission Team to Thailand: Mark Baldwin Joins In! On February 5-19, a team of ten from Grace BPC in Cincinnati served in Chiang Mai, Thailand, helping missionary Nicole Franz, a member of Grace who labors at Grace International School. The purpose of the trip was to help Nicole in her position at GIS this year as Coordinator of the Extended Services Department. The ESD Office works to serve and encourage missionary families living throughout Thailand who home school their children. For one week during the school year, the ESD Office plans a huge Conference at GIS to bring these families together, many from outlying areas and villages. Training is offered as they seek to learn how to better educate their own children, testing and evaluation are provided, activities are offered for the children, and wonderful Christian fellowship occurs. Last summer, Nicole approached GBPC leadership to consider sending a team to help with this Conference by providing a VBS type program for the K-6 aged children. GBPC agreed, and the Lord brought together a wonderful team of eight members: Al and Jane Cook, Casey and Kelly Southerland, Mike and Carol Franz, Debbie Creath, and Jason Waeber. The team also included Nicole’s cousin, Pastor Rob Spicer of Zion Groveport Lutheran Church in Groveport, OH, and Rev. Mark Baldwin, PMU missionary in Cambodia. The Conference theme this year was, “Come unto Me.” The team led in singing and devotions for all ages at the Conference each morning. The children were then tested by some of the team members while the parents participated in various home schooling workshops. The team put together a VBS program for the children after testing. Bible lessons, crafts, music time, and recreation activities all centering on the theme were held each day. This team was blessed greatly by these missionary families through fellowship, listening to stories of their daily joys and struggles on the mission field. It was also a blessing for the team to have time with both Nicole and Mark. Seeing and actually being a part of Nicole’s ministry in Thailand was an incredible blessing. It was also wonderful to have time with Mark and to hear more details about his life and ministry in Cambodia. Team Thailand praises the Lord for our safe travels, good health, as well as the opportunity to serve and also encourage our missionaries. The team also praises God for providing all the family members and friends who did so much to make this trip possible! “To God be the Glory!” “Let the children come unto Me!” — Mrs Carol Franz

Paauwe Update (continued) deacons. I spoke on the word "New" and discussed a number of passages in the Bible where the word "new" is used. I had done that at the Watch Night Service, and the people requested that I find some more "new" things to speak about at the Care Group meeting. On Australia Day (Jan 26th), we participated in a mass tract distribution ministry. Four groups of people went out from the church to distribute a special Australia Day Tract. A total of about 4,000 tracts were distributed. Deacon Jimmy Orchard, Mrs. Angela Yap, and Lehia plan to visit with the Kimas in Myanmar from March 29— April 3. Please pray for their safety and ministry during this time. While there, Lehia plans to teach more music as requested by the Kimas. Preparations continue for the 2008 academic year of Evangel Bible Institute. EBI will begin again in March. We'll be offering two courses on Wednesday evenings, both of them video based from BJU. The first is "Ancient Truths for Modern Times" -- Old Testament Messages by Ken Casillas. I taught NT Survey over the past three semesters. Rather than my teaching OT Survey, we're using this two semester course from BJUs Institute of Biblical Education. The second Wednesday evening course is "Premarital Counseling" by Jim Berg; this is also an IBE course and will conclude a series of six units on Biblical Counseling by Jim Berg. I'll be teaching Beginning Greek, continuing from where we left off last semester; we have six lessons left in Machen's Greek Grammar, after which we'll start translating from the Greek NT. — Dr. Ed Paauwe
