The ability of a business or investment to achieve its strategic goals and objectives. These external forces might include competition; social, legal and technological changes, and the economic and political environment.

INTERNAL FORCES OF CHANGE 1. NATURE OF THE WORKFORCE - With different work values have been expressed by different generations. The hew generation of workers have better educational qualifications, they place greater emphasis on human values and question authority of managers. 2. CHANGE IN MANAGERIAL PERSONNEL - When replacing old to new managers because of promotion, retirement, transfer or dismissal. Each brings his own ideas and way of working in the organization. An informal relationship and change in attitudes is created. 3. DEFICIENCIES IN EXISTING MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE - may be in the form of unmanageable span of management, large number of managerial levels, lack of coordination among various departments, obstacles in communication, multiplicity of committees, lack of uniformity in policy decision, lack of cooperation between in line and staff. 4. TO AVOID DEVELOPING INERTIA - Conscious Managers take into account in viewing an organization, making it dynamic because there is no best single method for every management. Changes are incorporated so that personnel develop liking for change and there is no unnecessary resistance when major changes happens.

Change in PEOPLE Changes in People consist of altering expectations, attitudes, perceptions and behaviour.

Change in STRUCTURE Changes in Structure consist of altering relationship, redesigning jobs, coordinating mechanisms and modifying span of control.

Change in TECHNOLOGY Changes in Technology consist of revising work process, revamping work methods and acquiring new equipments.
