DEPARTMENT OF BASIC VETERINARY SCIENCES 5 March 2015 Hon. J. R. Nereus O. Acosta Secretary/Presidential Adviser for Environmental Protection and General Manager Laguna Lake Development Authority East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City Dear Sir: Greetings! I would like to ask your kind permission to collect data on demographics, predominant industries as well as households with and without septic tanks around Laguna de Bay. Specifically, our areas of interest include Bayanan, Muntinlupa; Napindan, Taguig; Pasig River; Sta. Cruz, Paete, Calamba, and Bay in Laguna; and Binangonan, Rizal. The information will form part of the secondary data of my research entitled: “Evaluation of Feral Fish Biomarkers for Monitoring of Estrogen Pollution of Laguna de Bay”. This research project, which is funded by the National Research Council of the Philippines, aims to evaluate sensitive biomarkers that may be utilized as reference parameters to determine contamination of local freshwater systems with naturallyoccurring estrogens. Rest assured that the LLDA would be properly acknowledged in our terminal report and in future publications that will be based on this research. I am hoping for your kind approval of this request. Thank you very much. Sincerely yours, Dr. Michelle Grace V. Paraso Associate Professor and Chair
