PHARMACEUTICAL EXCIPIENT
1. Definition of pharmaceutical excipients. Pharmaceutical excipients are a component of pharmaceutical products other than inert, active ingredients added at the time of formulation for particular purpose. 2. Purposed server by excipients. Pharmaceutical excipients are substances intended to enhance utulity, steadiness, durability, and as dyestuffs, maybe added both to official preparations and to unoffocial preparations. 3. Type of pharmaceutical excipients a. Filler Filler tipically also fill out the size of a table o capsule, making it practical to pruduce and convenientfor the consumer to use. b. Solvent and cosolvents Use to dissolve another subtance in preparation of a solution, maybe aqueous or oleaginous. Cosolvents are definied as water miscible organic solvents that ore used in liquid drug formulations. c. Antifungal and antibacterial preservatives Use in liquid and semisolid preparations to prevent growth of fungi microorganism. Example : butyl paraben d. Suspending agent Suspending agent used to reduce sedimentation rate of particles in a vehicle in which they are not soluble. Example: tragacanth, agar e. Flavoring agent Flavoring agent used to increase patient acceptance. Example: rose oil, orange oil, etc. f. Suppository base Vehicle of suppositories. Example: cocoa butter 4.
