ECLIPSE Eclipse, in astronomy, the obscuring of one celestial body by another, particularly that of the sun or a planetary satellite.

• Solar eclipse • Lunar eclipse
SOLAR ECLIPSE A solar eclipse occurs when the moon is between the sun and the earth and its shadow moves across the face of the earth.
LUNAR ECLIPSE A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth is between the sun and the moon and its shadow darkens the moon.
