'Old People Assistance' (OPA) was formally started by the Daughters ofCharity in Danka when in January 2008, HENK J. TH. VAN STOKKOM came to visit our area with his son TOM. It was a God-sent visit especially to the old people of our area. Because of them, 110 old people have started receiving regular help. Prior to this, help would come sporadically. In our own little capacity we tried to provide decent houses to the very old people who are living under human condition. This was do ne mostly in Samerro village. Generally, the people in the area are experiencing hunger at the time when harvest season is still faro Because ofthis, old people would line up in our gate seeking help for their daily food. The Clinic run by the Daughters ofCharity would give monthly food to the elderly patients depending on its capacity to share resources with them. Free medicines are sometimes given to these elderly patients especially ifthey have nobody to help them. For the poor elderly person to look decent and dignified, clothes and shoes were provided especially for those who are suffering from Elephantiasis, a debilitating disease ofthe lower extremities. The Daughters of Charity in this area is very grateful for the help OUD IN AFRIKA is giving to the elderly people of Samerro Village and Danka. With your help we were able to reach out more to the most neglected people of our society - the elderly. Without your help these people could not have been enjoying the security of having something to eat and the comfort of a warm blanket during the cold night. In behalf of these poor elderly people we say our 'THANK YOU' more than our hearts can say. God bless you all and your loved ones.
